Even though his stage presence isn't as expressive visually, his sound and style would have supplemented DT so much better than MM. The snare sound and cymbal selection says so much about a drummers musicality, its not always technique, this is where AP shines over MM. I think Aquiles deserves a much more recognized band for all the efforts he puts into writing for these semi quality power metal types.
Agree.And I watch a lot of drum clips on here on YT, and from what I have seen, I prefer AP. I just don't get MM feel, although he is good visually I guess. In fact I would say I would have picked any those other great drummers in that audtion before MM.(plus his whiny east coast accent bugs me.sorry for being childish)
+Joe Peffer MM is just a drum machine. I guess it's what DT wanted. 0 feeling. I don't think Aquiles would have fitted in DT. But, personnaly I would have picked any other drummer before MM :)
Truly, they could have just programmed the drums instead. And actually if you're gonna have a drummer that sounds like a drum machine at least get him some decent samples. With the amount of amazing samples there are out there nowadays how come his kit always sounds like garbage?
I so hope this is DT's new drummer, although it'll probably be Mangini since there was a rumour he was the new drummer. But still, in a couple of minutes we will all know who it is!

Right now, we all know the contenders to fill M Portnoy's drumkit : Mike Mangini, Virgil Donati, Marco Minnemann, Peter Wildoer, Thomas Lang, Derek Roddy and Aquiles Priester. I've said from day 1 that Priester was the n°1 choice and that he'll won the job. So until DT prove me wrong, i'll stick to my gun.
Well, I'm Paul from Thailand. I have been a big fan of heavy metal bands for many years. Dream Theater is one my favorite bands and Portnoy is my drummer idol. I think we should'nt compare him to the other drummers because they each have their own styles. According to DT audition for new drummer, I favor Thomas Lang because his rythm is very powerful and tight. But Prister was too nervous and did'nt break the ice with them. Anyway I think he is of the best drummers on this planet
@rayguess11 I completely agree whith you, Aquiles is far more advanced and i would consider playing whit Dream theater a handicap for him but that is just my personal opinion.
