Você tem lugar em qualquer banda no mundo e a banda onde toca atualmente tem que ser muito valorizada com o som que faz.
Right now, we all know the contenders to fill M Portnoy's drumkit : Mike Mangini, Virgil Donati, Marco Minnemann, Peter Wildoer, Thomas Lang, Derek Roddy and Aquiles Priester. I've said from day 1 that Priester was the n°1 choice and that he'll won the job. So until DT prove me wrong, i'll stick to my gun.
I so hope this is DT's new drummer, although it'll probably be Mangini since there was a rumour he was the new drummer. But still, in a couple of minutes we will all know who it is!
Even though his stage presence isn't as expressive visually, his sound and style would have supplemented DT so much better than MM. The snare sound and cymbal selection says so much about a drummers musicality, its not always technique, this is where AP shines over MM. I think Aquiles deserves a much more recognized band for all the efforts he puts into writing for these semi quality power metal types.
Agree.And I watch a lot of drum clips on here on YT, and from what I have seen, I prefer AP. I just don't get MM feel, although he is good visually I guess. In fact I would say I would have picked any those other great drummers in that audtion before MM.(plus his whiny east coast accent bugs me.sorry for being childish)

Truly, they could have just programmed the drums instead. And actually if you're gonna have a drummer that sounds like a drum machine at least get him some decent samples. With the amount of amazing samples there are out there nowadays how come his kit always sounds like garbage?
Amo demais a composição dessa musica, tudo ta lindão e perfeito. O aquiles sabe fazer ótimos ritmos com e sem pedal duplo, misturando varias peças do kit. Parabéns pro Fábio Laguna também, Freakeys é bom pra caralho ! Conseguiu ser bem mais interessante que o liquid tension (eu acho ne).

Well, I'm Paul from Thailand. I have been a big fan of heavy metal bands for many years. Dream Theater is one my favorite bands and Portnoy is my drummer idol. I think we should'nt compare him to the other drummers because they each have their own styles. According to DT audition for new drummer, I favor Thomas Lang because his rythm is very powerful and tight. But Prister was too nervous and did'nt break the ice with them. Anyway I think he is of the best drummers on this planet
@rayguess11 Aquiles is a great metal drummer. I do love Aquiles but I don't really think it's fair to say that Mike is 'yesterdays news' when in reality, there is only five years difference in their age and Mike is definitely a more well versed drummer and musician as a whole.

LISTEN to there playing styles and I'm just pointing out that for those WANTING to compare Portnoy to Priester, Aquiles definitely outdrums Portnoy in most if not every way. And I somewhat disagree with you about music not being a competition. Music sells, music is very much a competition Go to concerts and watch every band down to the head liners Only the best performing band are truely recognized/outdone by other bands

hes the most fucking creative drummer ive ever seen, Ive seen many, including roddy, portnoy, peart, mangini, kollias, minneman etc all of them are good but priester has more creativity
agreed i thought he did well to try out but his way of writing is different to dt but every musician is different and should not be compared with other drummers. old drummers would say that buddy rich could monster portnoy. like when people say how awesome joey jordison is from 'knot he is but Aquiles could monster him d rod thomas lang etc.these people should explore more musicians that way you can make an educated comment if you have a problem ok ?
@paultvshow To be honest, I don't think Thomas Lang would have been a good fit for Dream Theater. He is EXTREMELY gifted, but I feel as if Portnoy is the only one who had that incredible chemistry with the band. I think Mangini is a great drummer. All the drummers that tried out for Dream Theater are amazing. However, Portnoy's style is called for, IMHO, in Dream Theater.
Ainda prefiro o virgil donatti, ou até mesmo os originais, já que Aquiles é a cópia de Deen Castronovo e Gene hoglan. Os caras nem são brazucas mas conseguem ter mais swing que o Aquiles, sem falar nos bumbos muito mais precisos e velozes.
just because one band makes the decision to hold auditions doesn't make music a competition. It's a test to see who's most capable of fitting in with the band's style, and style of making music
Now Mike Portnoy and Aquiles Priester is 2 best drummers 4 me!! Yes, they are very different, but there is so much passion with technic in their music, it inspire me every time!!! RESPECT FROM RUSSIA!!!

Both drummers is good. But I'm gonna go with Aquiles.. I plays Paiste, which is better than sabian, and Mapex, which is better than Tama :).
He would be great with Dream Theater, no doubt about it. Portnoy has maybe more charima, but AP is a better drummer. I like Portnoy too.
