Custom Amplification 'a junk shop'? It was once an important hub for local musicians as well as a go-to shop to buy quality equipment long before the internet came along. I still have some equipment I bought from there. It was previously on Nantwich Rd (#45, now demolished). Sadly, Pete, the owner and wonderful musician, died several years ago. His son now runs an excellent amplifier/instrument repair business, but not from the shop.
The supermarket type shop on the corner of Electricty St was once The Leisure Club which hosted live bands before the Limelight opened.

@@JanWright Are you sure you're thinking of the right shop? I remember there used to be a junk type shop further down the road on the same side a very long time ago (70s) - a few doors from where the TV shop (Wootton's?) was on the corner of Stalbridge Road. I knew Pete since the early 70s when he had the Nantwich Rd shop and he only ever sold gear.
I checked with a friend who used to work at Custom, who confirmed my memory about the 'junk shop' further down the road. I also remember a shop somewhere along there that had a sign in the window 'do it yourself then bring it to us' that must have done some sort of repair work.

Lots of interesting details, thank you 👍. Was I the only one feeling lightly insecure pacing along Crewe's main artery? I don't know if Edleston Road bears the traces of decline: as the city grew, the population just spread. Trades changed dramatically as well over half a century. How many pubs were there on Nantwich Road before the Fall of Lehman Brothers in 2008...

Didn’t there used to be a maternity hospital on the road somewhere - Lyndon Grange I think the name was. I’d have to check, but I think I was born there. It was in 1953.
