This was fantastic!! IM a Navy War Vet DD-990 Destroyer. Countless hours on watch me and my crew talked about doing exactly this!! That was back in the mid 90s. I currently live on a remote island in American Samoa. I will find you someday and visit your club. Well DONE!
Think of a big one, 2ft X 15ft, with a single person operating each turret via tele link. Break it into 9 watertight bulkheads for transport. Sheet Metal is easy. R/C boilers too. Video stoker would be interesting crew job.
I would love to see this with ships from the age of sail, where the broadsides would be limited by a randomized timer to represent the training of the crew.
Honestly that wouldnt be much more work then the ones they have just need tiny little motors to help when winds are unfaverable with steering and driving
Daniel M. Only until they start developing scale depth charges! Then the guy with the u-boat will need scuba to retrieve his radio gear! I Can only imagine what a weighted M80 with a a waterproof fuse would do!😮😲😭
I can see an RC model company start making these ships and then they could develop rules on what you are permitted to do. It would be very big. It could have international competition. Who needs the NFL on the weekends.
Oh how this makes me miss being a kid watching Daily Planet with Jay faithfully. Such a great show on a chanel that is no where near it self as it once was in the late 90's early 2000's. Awsome upload
Awesome hobby, I wish I had one of these clubs close by! They should make the life rafts serve as the floats- though they may be too small to do any good in recovery.
neat idea for the life rafts build it and they will come if you find an rc club and you already have a boat ready to fight, SOMEONE will take you up on it i bet
One has to wonder how many ships wooden and steel plus artillery from centuries of war are in the big pond. I mean really. That was the best question you could salvo out there?
They are steel, so they don't really cause environmental damage, as opposed to lead used by hunters or recreational shooters. Real warships have been sunk just to create artificial reefs
As hobbies go, this looks pretty cool. I wounder though: is balsa wood a rule that you have to make your ships hull out of? Because I can think of lots of sturdier materials. I guess maybe it's so the guns can actually sink a ship?
Put a thin layer of silicone around the electronic connections and servos they will last a bit longer when they get wet, put some foam in there too, add some fiberglass to the lower hull after every battle, cheap and strong...wow that looks like a lot of fun though...
When I was in highschool in 2007 I talked to my cousins (who build real planes for a living and RC's as a hobby) what it would take for me to build a battleship with working armaments so i could have battles with someone if i could get the idea for fleet battles to gain traction. They said not much but Goodluck finding people who would want to participate. I know this video is 9years old but it's cool to see i wasn't alone in my thought process to see this become a reality. Super cool to watch 😁
One of my friends at school used to tell me he had a video (as in a VHS, this was 1996) of some massed RC battle with tanks, aircraft and ships - including to-scale aircraft carriers launching whole squadrons. But he might have just been making it up XD
Many many years ago as a younger person spreckles lake Golden Gate park San Francisco On the weekends did this type of activity which was really cool also there was a boathouse where people kept their Model sailboats
Two things I always wondered about these boats. How do the guns work and how do they keep the electronics dry? I think I got an answer the 2nd one. They don't. You get to much water and things quit working.
My one brother had a model of an aircraft carrier that is until me and my other brother put a couple of M80's in it. Lit them and set sail caught a picture of it just as it blew up. This sounds really cool!
Additional ideas to try out: 1. Ship Armor - secretly line the inside of the hull with a thin layer of Kevlar backed by thin titanium plates. 2. Ship Flamethrower Gun Battery. 3. Explosive Incendiary BBs. 4. Helicopter Pad for Drone Attack Chopper armed with those firecracker tubes that shoot out multiple sparking projectiles. 5. Ship to Ship Missile Battery (firecracker tubes as above). 6. Ship Laser Gun Battery (Aren't there laser devices that can set flammable materials on fire if they're kept focused on the same spot?). 7. Helicopter Drone armed with a large magnifying lens (only on sunny days). 8. Ship Defensive Missile Battery (shoot down drones with skyward aimed firecracker tubes). 9. Ship BB Machine Gun Battery. 10. Ship Self-Destruct Capability using a single interior BB gun aimed at a pack of tannerite (will also destroy/damage nearby enemy ships). 11. Misc - Submarines, Torpedoes, Depth Charges, Ship Sonar (fishing sonar/radar device vs. submarines).
@Steve Rogers These clubs work to a set of rules to keep the battling safe, practical, realistic & sensible. ALL of your ideas break at least one of these.

Just read a few hobby magazines, borrow a few books, find a few people to talk to, etc, and it will come. But the biggest thing is just get some balsa wood, a sharp knife & some glue and start playing around, and expand from there.
I bet this is waymore fun then playing video games ... actually heading out to a lake with your friends, tinkering around RC servos etc you learn stuff about electronics, model building, and most of all have real fun.... it would be even more fun if you had artificial islands or some sort of obstacles where ships could take cover or make it more tactics based then spray and pray... maybe a timer based firing mechanism to simulate real "loading" maybe a long range cannon type that could fire from distance etc... interesting hobby.
Maybe add some waterproof & plexiglass shielded cameras to the bridge & gun turrets, hook up some small exploding roman candles, depth charges(firecrackers), add some submarines with torpedoes, and some smoke effects/simulated internal ammo explosions and count me in!
I’m into RC planes but this looks pretty fun and not as expensive as these damn planes can get AND patching the hulls looks far less hassle than building a whole new plane

SergioWW1WW2 that would be fucking awesome! i'd watch that even on tv. maybe you could have the planes and the ships, maybe add anti-aircraft guns to the regular guns, then for the icing on top add tanks and have mine fields with small firework mines. that'd be amazing.
Brad Mauderer woooww that would be a fucking dream come true!!!! even bombers throwing little bombs over the battlefield!!! a real mini battle, not a staged theater act. Real battle, with ships, planes and tanks shooting :D
exactly! everything would have everything should be as close to scale as each other. the ships would have to be HUGE, and bigger planes would be easier to operate the weapons on slower more stable planes. i almost forgot attack helis and subs.
Yeah like there was any way the USS Missouri was gonna lose to an Italian ship.... seriously in WW1 the Italians argued with the French and Brits over who would command the allied navies in the Med. The gist of the Italian argument was "we should be in charge because so far we have a perfect record, no losses!" Yeah, you have no losses because you refused to risk them by leaving port! Truth in advertising, I love Beretta's especially their gorgeous shotguns so I'm not dissing all Italians, just their Naval command.
Italian ship could actually win, they had a very advanced navy but no fuel to use it. What italians didn't have were the commanders. Fascism was too corrupted, even the brave skilled soldiers who rommel mentioned were used to die under such italian mismanagement.
Sarblade I certainly don't mean to imply that the average Italian soldier/sailor wasn't brave or dedicated, and you are absolutely right that the issue was with the commanders. War requires initiative at the lower levels and Fascism isn't keen on subordinates having the freedom to act. But the Missouri still wins.... 😎😎😂😎
This needs to be a televised sporting event!
for real, from all different ages
Begtter than robot wars for sure.
battlebots will make do for now
or if not televised, at least live streamed over here on TH-cam
I wanna see a game with a model Titanic being chased around the pond by a remote-controlled iceberg.
That video exists
Huh?
How stupid. Just the whole idea.
Funny funny haha if that one exists I want to see it🧊⛴🛳

A duel between two carrier fleet teams would be awesome! They can partner with people who can retrofit model planes with bombs or something!
I would watch that
oh my god quick get them on the phone while I call the RC Tank battalions this will be a RC war to remember
thekingghidorah93 I would defiantly take part in a battle like that
thekingghidorah93 it would be op fighting planes without aa guns
Explosives are banned in most battles
I'm going broke from seeing all these cool videos of different hobbies that I can jump into. Thanks!
Its all fun in games until the guy with a RC U-Boat shows up.
ahah
I see what you did there
Daniel M. american like show up you know
With explosive Torpedos. That would not be fun to repair time and again.

When I was in like 3rd grade my friends and I wanted to do this... That was like 20 years ago. Kinda cool people actually do this
This could be so much different with 2022 tech.
GoPro's on the ships for aiming wold be a great start.
kids are so damn talanted about details these days and all the parts available,i want to see more as well
Combines 2 great activities. ....model building and shooting stuff.
Bravo y'all.

Incorporate RC bombers ...big time cool
and it would be ruined, instantly
if you wanna do it, go do it, but no one is gonna hand you a pre built boat to play with
you will need to develop THAT skill set too...

I'd love if this could be done with RC tanks, with cameras for aiming and real damage done to the models.

if the scale is so imporant they should stick to scale speeds too..make it realistic.
"I'm gonna get you when I reach you in ten minutes!" :P
Where’s the fun in that?
Queef Micester exactly
Im not sure the gun would do any damage at realistic scaled ranges. Im trying to figure out a way to make it happen. Thinner hulls?
Use copper pellets or bbs

I remember something like this myself actually. Barely remember.
I would be the one who shows up with a 15 foot model of HMS victory that has 100 9mm cannons on it
I'd show up with a full sized model that shoots 230mm shells
Just show up with the cheapest boat you can build. with a Grenade
Logan Spencer build a ship of the line with 2 decks of cannons and fire all at once
I'd show up with a landing craft with a mounted Gustav railway gun
