The greatest thing with Sabaton is that most (all except for the first album) are real historical context with good soundtrack. D-day, battle of the bulge, Galipoli, tank battle of prokorovka, Finnish winter war... And then the History channel here on TH-cam that has won an Accademic award for education, kind of fantastic for a rock band.
FYI it's 110th anniversary of the truce. The sister channel "Sabaton history" has an episode on the Christmas truce. I notice the Vegemite and skippy PB - yummy! This Aussie gives it 2 thumbs up!
Sabaton are Swedish, most of their songs (9 of 10 albums) are about Military History. Yes, this actually happened. Formed in 1999, lead singer Joakim Broden and bassist Par Sundstrom( at the cross at the end) are the primary songwriters, and only original members left. Drummer Hannes van Dahl (first soldier out of the trenches), is Floor's husband, he joined in 2014. Guitarist Chris Rorland (first soldier out on the other side) joined in 2012. Guitarist Tommy Johannsen (battlefield guitar solo) joined in 2016, and left earlier this year. Former guitarist , Thobbe Englund, returned to the band when Tommy left. Joakim doesn't have a huge vocal range, but he uses all of what he has. A sabaton is the footpiece in a medieval suit of armor. Song is the lead single from the 10th album, The War To End All Wars. Single released late 2021, album in 2022. That album, and the 9th album, The Great War, are both about WW I stories. Christmas Truce is my all time favorite Christmas song. The video was made by people that usually make movies. When the world stopped, moviemaking did also, so they had time for this. For more info on the story behind any of their songs, the band has their own history channel, at least 1 episode for every song.
I love Sabaton purely because of the power that each song gives off. Each song is a wave of energy and power that threatens to engulf you. ~ This song really showed the beauty of the Christmas Truce. How they put down their weapons and enjoyed Christmas together. no war, no weapons, no violence, just HAPPINESS AND PEACE ~ 🕊️🏳️☮️✌🏼 Love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Yes, great answer. In the fields of the Somme, Verdun, all along the Western Front, the farmers daily dig up shells, bones of humans and animals, knives, swords, helmets. guns, watches, etc. and grenades. In France, I've visited a family that put some old, inactive WW1 grenades as a centerpiece on their holiday table.
When you watch Sabaton videos, you dont have to hide the video!Jioakim actually loves reaction videos to his stuff, he watches them too. ;) they dont strike for copyright :) 😊 Huge Sabaton fan here, you should delve into this rabbit hole 1916 Last stand ( swiss guard story) No bullets fly ( animated version) En livstid i Krig ( in Gottenburgh live, swedish with english subs) And the list goes on and on 197 songs
great reaction, more Sabaton please. Sabaton is a Swedish band with a loooong list of history based music. Great song, great production - and Floor at the outro. What you can wish more? You recogniced her??well done. Joakims voice is well suited to this type of songs.
Would love to see you coming back to Nightwish❣️ The new songs: An ocean of strange islands ( lyric video) or Perfume of the timeless ( incredibly good video). The hole album has an epic orchestration. More than ever before! Happy holiday or christmas time for you and your loved ones❣️
I concur. Even John Williams was impressed by early Nightwish😊 The new album wont be toured, but they'll be orchestral concerts next summer in Finnland.
After this happened the russians tried to have a truce on the estern front for easter. Issue is that easter isn't in the same time in russian and german calendars so it never happened.
I'm not sure if it was part of a whole album initially, but i think they said they spent THREE YEARS trying to make sure they did it justice. ❤ It wasn't just that they rotated soldiers. A ton of soldiers defected after this, leading the leaders to threaten...executions, I believe it was? If this was ever done again. A huge part of getting soldiers to fight is dehumanizing the enemy. Suddenly they were human again.
Amazing song and video, thank you Geebz! Yes, they had grenades in WWI, they are actually quite old and have been around for centuries in some form. Btw that looked like Tyr at the beginning, did you do a reaction to them, will you post it? I saw them live this year. Great show.
This was a single from their album "The War To End All Wars", that was their second concept album telling stories from WWI. The first album is called "The Great War". So this was not a one off thing, almost all of their songs tell stories of often forgotten military history and heroic people. They are masters at making a great song, with catchy riffs while the lyrics tell of, often horrible, events from history.
These used to happen all the time until the powers that be found out and put an end to it. And Floor is married to the drummer of this band. Sabaton only sings about war. Watch "No bullets fly". Also Sabaton has a history channel that explains each song.
Sabaton is my second favorite band of my top three. My third is Powerwolf and number one is Nightwish. Also I've never seen any reaction to any of these bands get copyright claimed, so I don't think covering the video is necessary.
Hey ! Big fan Can you react to Monuments - The Uncollective PLEASE ?? I can't find any review of this song but it's one of the best song Monuments ever released
I’m sure others have mentioned it but I’ll say it again anyway. Floor Jansen is married to Sabaton’s drummer, Hannes Van Dahl (he was the skinny blonde that was knocked out by the grenade in the beginning and was the first to leave the trenches).
Ohhh I'm so glad you got to see this!! I'd love it if people normalized it as a standard Christmas song.

Jepp . a true story from 1914 . A cross is still standing there .... Merry christmas from Sweden
The cross was put up in 1999 though. Nothing that's been there since it happened.
Hannes hugging Chris always breaks my heart.

"Oh, did they have grenades in WWI!".
Yes. They had grenades 500 years ago. 😂
Well it shows that you are a peaceful person. And that's good. 👍

For a brief moment, they weren't enemies. Amazing story, great song.
Such an amazing moment that came out of WWI, and this song does it justice.
Great reaction! So appreciative that you didn't cut the outro.

Check out Sabaton's Tribute to Motorhead, and Lemmy covering Motorhead's song 1916
yes it really happened british and german soldiers in ww1

💚✌️
If Sabaton has something in their video, then it is historically correct. Well, except for “acoustic - electric guitars”….
God Jul 🎄 🧑🎄
The drummer Hannes Van Dahl and Floor Jansen are married, they have two girls Freja and Lucy
They live in Sweden 🇸🇪 Sverige
No idea showing the video...i see only surfing
Hey ! Big fan
Can you react to Monuments - The Uncollective PLEASE ?? I can't find any review of this song but it's one of the best song Monuments ever released
Why does the singer look like Leonardo DiCaprio in the thumbnail?
"Even this, it's beautiful"... Of course it is, it's Floor :)
Why do so many have a hardon so much for her?
She is good but she is not what made nightwish become what it is.
I’m sure others have mentioned it but I’ll say it again anyway. Floor Jansen is married to Sabaton’s drummer, Hannes Van Dahl (he was the skinny blonde that was knocked out by the grenade in the beginning and was the first to leave the trenches).
Just a slight correction - its pronounced Floor “Yawnsen”
Floy Jensen
