This is probably one of the best videos I've seen on setting up a 6m repeater split, saving the settings, and using the memory option. Please keep these type of videos coming. 73, KB5AEB
Kinda Excited Today, My Son and I passed our Technician Test yesterday! Looking forward to getting some equipment! Just wanted to let you Know! Ps Thanks for all your Videos,I Sure like Them!
Well congratulations to both of you! It's great that a father and son can do this together, that's exactly what my dad did with me. Good memories. Make sure you contact your local club and check about field day coming up in June, that's a fun time for a father and son.
Ticket just dropped last tuesday.... trying to make my mind up on a hf+ rig.... was leaning 991a but im liking the 7300 the more vids i watch! Have a mobile in my truck, and a dual bander in the garage for local, so the fm options on the 991a dont seem as useful to me now...! unless i buy another vehicle think im gonna go 7300... 73's KI5GEV... Randy.... Walnut, Mississippi
I have a suggestion.....If you have a title that says you are going to setup the Icom 7300, let's do the automatic setup for the 7300 not showing how to do it manually on this radio and other radios. Auto first, then manual. Maybe either extend your video or do a separate video.
That was easy. I also put the 10 meter repeaters in memory. Right now I only have the IMAX 2000 CB antenna, which works 10 down to 17 meters. Santiago Peak from the SF valley needed 60 watts to get in. Mt Harvard took 5 watts.
Armed forces day is next Saturday May 11 so the info Kevin gave you for split will work for the cross band contacts for that also, just remember to transmit IN the ham bands while listening to the military stations outside of the ham bands. They will give their listening frequency now and then.
You really only need the tone on your transmit to open the repeater. The tone coming on the receive side is only for convenience. Allowing your squelch to only open when it hears the tone. But without that tone, your squelch will still open. So you really only need the tone on the transmit side.
Thanks for the videos. Simple and straightforward. Any reason you were running preamp2? Saw the OVF come on. Keep the videos coming love em. Nice haircut by the way...lol
I had the preamp on due to low sensitivity on 6 RX of my HF vertical I was using. James is less than 100 yards away, so his 5 watts was triggering the OVF indicator.
This means an TONE-Freq must be set, and send always 100Hz behind the normal modulation ? Is it possible do it without the tone Frequenz, all my old radios don't have an 100Hz Tone behind the FM Mod. Don't understod how it's work with the tone case. How an user can know that there must activate 100Hz side tone ? Or can i use an separat hand -Dial-Sound-Pad to open the gate ?
Some 6 meter repeaters are open and don't require a sub-audible tone. Many of them do and the tone varies by repeater. You can see them in the list on repeaterbook.com. There used to be kits for sub-audible tone generators you could put in-line with your microphone. They probably still exist.
Kevin, this is a wonderful instructional video. I learned a lot. I will be passing through Kingman next Saturday on our way to Monument Valley. Are you on 2M?
Yo Kevin!: As usual, GREAT video! It re-kindles my interest in 6 mtrs. (Along with 160, but I have a persnickety type tuner I need to get settled : ) Keep up the good work, love to hear about where your billeted currently. Let me know if & when you are headed north to the Pacific NW. We have GREAT summers here! de seeker / Jeff WA7LFP
Hey, I like your videos and always give you a like. Wish I had enough money to help support your videos. When I first got my VHF/UHF radio set up with several repeaters in my area, I tested them like you just did. At the next club meeting I was taken aside and quietly told that if I was the one who had been "kerchunking" the repeaters, to stop doing that. It was considered "bad form." I'm not wanting to sound mean or critical, just saying throw a call sign with it. Keep on with the great videos. demonstrate using the Chameleon stuff more. I have almost the same pieces as you and enjoy going out portable. 73 W0YVY
So looking forward to passing the license and moving on from listening to a BaoFeng. I built a dead-bug FM transmitter out of some junk. Loads of fun and amazed at its range. Kinda getting ahead of myself. However, £57.00 (75 doll hairs) to do my first test at the local club. Soon, I promise!
Keep up the great work Kevin, here is something to look at HAM Radio ready Linux distro, it seems like Skywave Linux is halted (awaiting feedback from them) - sourceforge.net/projects/kb1oiq-andysham/ - 73's ZS2GHK

Ok
Great video, Kevin, still yielding benefits well past the time when you posted this. TY! 73 de KD8ZM
This band has been a favorite of mine since I first got licensedin 1991. Thanks for this video.
pretty cool. I really need to check 6 meters. I hardly ever get on there. Thanks for showing us and neat setup for the 7300 being able to do that.
Thanks Kevin, I will have to check it out when I get home. I have Hustler antenna that will tune up on 6m using just the lower mast. 73/ N2IMB
Another great and informative video. PS - I LOVE THE INTRO!!!
Lovely explanation. Thank you. 73 de 3C3CA (TA2OM)

Excellent demo Kevin
Kevin; Thanks, that was very helpful information! Randy. California.
Wow! You really make it simple. I am going to try this today. Thanks W2UW

I love 6 Meters. Worked 20 states on 6 FM on 52.525. Never really tried repeaters on 6FM that's next when I get my antenna up againl
Would you know how to use a 6 meter repeater that requires a up and down link tone that are different. my radio has only one place to put a tone?
You really only need the tone on your transmit to open the repeater. The tone coming on the receive side is only for convenience. Allowing your squelch to only open when it hears the tone. But without that tone, your squelch will still open. So you really only need the tone on the transmit side.

Are you in Az? I have been a subscriber for a few years. I’m in Mesa. Keep up the awesome work!
Yes, outside of Kingman presently.
There's a 6 meter repeater neat me with an auto patch... Gonna try it out 👍

It may be that the manual was written before the memory operation features were totally in place. It happens. :-)
Repeater book also has an Android App available
Please do a video on remote operation
I worked 20 states on 5 watts from my home

Oh, I do. And I always sign clear. Sometimes its after the take and the camera has been stopped.
..it is a shame there is so little activity on 6m FM..
Thanks, this helped a lot. So many things for me to learn about this rig. K4ENW
Hi...Kevin!
wouldnt owning a 7300 be like owning a corvette? n9izx 73
