Love the upcycled things you made, they really look good. I'm doing that myself sometimes and meanwhile have quite some experience when walking over a flea market to recognize what's worth it and what not. There's only one problem I have: I always start renovating things with the intention of selling them. But when I'm finished, I like them so much I can't give them away.

@@lifeingermany_ Shortest message I ever received via ebay Kleinanzeigen was "25?". Hell, no, I offered the item for 60, non-negotiable. But Kleinanzeigen, at least in my area, has become a total mess. Babies' clothing and rotten car parts, that's about all you can find here. I kept my account but don't use that site anymore.

We are so similar, I didn't realize. I recently moved from a short term furnished apartment in Munich to a rental house that is four floors as well and we had a week to furnish it. We got a 100 euro 25 year old leather sectional from kleinenzeigen that I refurbished. I love it so much! I also bought that exact same cup for 1 euro at a thrift store. 😂

Wow, that quite certainly was a LOT and you managed to squeeze an hour's worth of information in a 22 minutes video - so, it was fast as well, even by your standards...
But I'm also relieved that my fears about what's going to happen in this video didn't come true🤡😁🫶.
After letting all of the info sink in, I'm still left with two questions, though:
    1) You said you have a three car garage. Why are you paying the additional fee for a parking place in front of your house?
    2) Whatever happened to my two buddies that you introduced a while back - the robot vacuum cleaners? We haven't seen or heard from them in a while...😁💛

And I don’t pay for street parking anymore 😉 in our last flat we did!
And the vacuums are still great pals of mine 😝💛 .. honestly! They’re amazing!
BUT they didn’t make the cut in today’s video because they aren’t second hand or upcycled! 🤫

Electricity is a more significant factor in Germany than in other countries. I got a new computer which was more power efficient. The saved cost in electricity within 20 months was so high that I basically got my Apple computer for free. Yes,, the cost for electricity in Germany is that high.

It’s so funny listening to you: there are words (mostly names of companies) that you obviously learned in Germany (Lingoda) and pronounce just like a German would even though they are common in English as well but with a slightly different intonation. It reflects on your level of German when your English takes on a German intonation 😉

wow, there are also very bad stories about education or kindergardens in Germany, very rapidly it's getting very bad (most of the teachers want to quit the job and stop to work in the public schools or kindergartens) and the same with employer that have no understanding for mothers with ill children. And you didn't mention the petrol prices, that are a big block of monthly costs, and that Germany is one country in the world with the highes taxes, if you put all taxes together, for example Grundsteuer or Gebühren if you are self-employed (outside of art or content creators)...

    • @lifeingermany_

You’re definitely right! I have issues with our daycare quite often … closing down for reasons that aren’t actually legally valid, etc. but I have Canada prices to compare to. They are as flaky as they are here, but we also pay a lot less. Although I find many employers very flexible for parents with ill children, just depends I’m sure! And gas prices are high but we manage our usage well 🙂 and take public transport whenever possible!

What´s your current standard? Americans often call the USA "safe". From an European perspective a 25(+) times higher killing rate is called rather unsafe. As already mentioned: look up numbers from independent sources.
As a comparison: in the whole EU the chance to be killed is about the same as being killed just by an US POLICE OFFICER. Germany is one of the safest contries in the EU.

Thank you for your helpful video. We are in a similar situation, but the other way around. There is a chance for us to get a Canadian Open Work Permit, and I am personally very confident that my children will have a better life in Canada compared to Germany. One reason is the greater responsibility placed on citizens. There is no segregation. I am not sure about Canada, but right now in Germany, 10% of people are voting for AfD, which means 10% hate all foreigners. German education is not recognized in Canada. Actually, this is one of the reasons you live here. Yes, we will have to work harder in Canada. Canada has problems with housing, but I think this is temporary. Overall, Canada has a future; Germany does not

I've applied for a certificate of German citizenship by descent, and it’s making its way through the BVA. If it is approved, I'm not sure that i would move to Germany from the US, but it would be nice to have the option in my hip pocket. A complicating factor would be that I'm retired, so proving income streams for renting and buying into health insurance having never worked in Germany would be a challenge.
