the teardrop explodes, it must be remembered, was a band - not simply julian and a set of session musicians. this is david balfe's highest achievement. absolutely fantastic.
@tw28st I bought everything of his as they came out until around Peggy Suicide when real life started to intrude and then other things got in the way of music. You Tube is helping me rediscover it all.
@tw28st me too re: internet thing. 3 guitars, an acoustic bass, a couple of mandolins and a mono-synth. I've got a studio mic. for the computer and dodgy studio software. One day I'll get round to using it. Soon, hopefully. More of a writer than a player, though. Were you playing in that 80s band on your channel? There's a video of my band somewhere. I sincerely hope it doesn't turn up on here. I know a scottish bass player aswell. I've never heard him play-never met him - but he talks it well.
Thanks for posting this! I had a copy of this on dodgy DVD but it became unplayable about two years ago. Have you got anything else from this show? Especially the epic 'Culture Bunker'?! Cheers again!
@5DeadlyRecords ha ha ha ha....I know what you mean...I remember buying Teardrop Explodes albums, and, there were many great songs...but a few were a bit...well, quirky :)
@tw28st Sorry to hear that - or maybe not (it's all yours) - thats the curse of anonymity, I suppose. I made a puerile comment...... Saw Teardrop Explodes in '81, I think, at Bristol Colston Hall, and JC solo loads of times.
Wish someone had the footage of " screaming secrets' from the same OGWT special. magic version of the song. much better than the 3rd lp version. anyone?
@tw28st Yes I play, but badly. The band I was in needed a singer so I put down the guitar and threw some Cope-like shapes*shakes head in embarrassment*. Why? Looking at forming a band? ☺ I'm afraid suffocate escapes me. I can't remember it all.....probably an age thing.
@yeoviljunction was in a band for 10 years yawn! would like to do the internet band thing i have a 16 track recording studio an numerous instruments including roland td6 drum kit more of a producer than player i found a really good bass player from scotland that's as far as i have got
My Brother got me into these in the 80s still playing them now sound Band

the hook has been stuck in my head for 29 years
This song reminds me of Japan...the band I mean :) and, also, the drummer in Teardrop Explodes reminds me of Paul Morley
Simply brilliant!
Love this song. I have 2 teardrop explodes records. Fan-tas-tic.
thanks again
i used to sing this in the bath
I’m banging this out on vinyl
My original's been a plant pot in the shed for years.

I still think Julian was a music hero for many British teenagers in the early '80's.
His hair was never larger.
Very good , this band is fucking
@xwaystranger No, I'm not. But thanks for showing interest. It's quite flattering really.........I suppose......
I've just uploaded Screaming Secrets from this show. Can't seem to paste links here but it's appropriately tagged so search and you will find!!
