Napoleon was one of the greatest men of all time. He was an incredible general and soldier, amazing statesman, and his legacy is everywhere today, he set upp the rules for the modern state. Dosnt matter if he was a tyrant or revolutionary, og genius. He was great.

Joaquin Phoenix for best actor, Ridley Scott for best director, and Napoleon for best picture.

Except Phoenix doesn't look like Napoleon nor he behaves like him: he looks totally emotionless like a robot, while Napoleon was just opposite. Also, these 3 minutes are full of errors and fantasies (for example Napoleon leading a cavalry charge?)

Numerous émigrés (French exiles who fought against the revolution) rallied to him once he became first consul and then emperor. Also, he ended the repression of the revolutionaries against the clergy and rebuilt the link with the Church.

The scene with the mob is the 13 Vendémiaire event when royalist people trying to overthrow the republican goverment because its anti-catholic reforms. Napoleon was given free movment to crush the rebel mob and he did it with artillery loaded with grapeshots wich cause hundreds of casualties but Napoleon succeded crushing the mobs and advance like a rocket in the ranks.

Joaquin has Napoleon’s arrogance down to a tee. I also love that Josephine is no shrinking violet (which is how she was in real life). It will be interesting to see how 25 years is covered in a 2 hour 38 minute film. Perhaps told in flashback?

He was average height for the time.
The British propaganda machine made him look small in cartoons, and it didn't help that he made his personal bodyguard out of his tallest men.

Well for 1 the battle of the pyramids took place about 9 miles away from the pyramids so they were far in the backdrop. Napoleon being the victor named it the battle of the pyramids for propaganda purposes.
    2. Archeological site excavation of the pond where he supposedly fired canon into the ice to cause soldiers to drown failed to find any remains. Which doesn't conclusively mean it didn't happen but there are doubts.
    3. Napoleon's relationship to the peasants varied. The electoral plebiscite that made him Emperor was manipulated. They did vote for him as a majority but Napoleon changed the numbers to appear to have had a larger majority of the vote. In the beginning and middle of his reign the people loved that there were no more guillotines and they could practice their Catholicism again. However towards the end they became annoyed at the endless wars and conscription and death.

The French Emperor Napoleon was not small, he was 1 metre and 72 centimetres tall, which is more than the average for his time....Today he would probably be a few centimetres below the average, but not in 1790.

Nice reaction. Ive reading about Napoleon sonce childhood...he's a genius commander and statesman...there's more to him than just simply rendering hom tyrant, though ofcourse he has element of tyranny...when its a historical epic its always better to have a decent background about the figure and the period...

My only fear is that they’ll try to cover too much ground too quickly in this film. I love Ridley Scott, yet sometimes his movies are visually spectacular, but light on story development.

Peasants were literally Napoléon's soldiers. That's the whole point of what happened during the Révolution and you can hear it even in the National Anthem, all the children of the Fatherland joinning the army to save France from, well, basicaly, everybody else. For the mentality of that time period the greatest thing Napoléon did was that for the first time in french History peasants brought medals back home to their small villages no one in their families ever left. Before the Révolution you couldn't be in the military if you were a peasants. Thanks to him our ancestors knew about honor and glory for the very first time so he was extremely popular. (And I'm not even a big fan of his)

as a Frenchman it's strange to see one of our most famous compatriots speak English (Napoleon's worst enemies were the English...), but this film may be the most realistic about the character. There are however things unrealistic in the film (he never fired on the pyramids, the battle took place at more than 800 meters), so whether or not the film will be close to the real facts remains to be seen...

... ect
