I tried to strum like that on my acoustic and I ended up getting my pick into the guitar hole :/

@Riighted Try using wider, light flat-picks (I use Clayton .72mm myself) you'll find it's easier to control the pick (and keep hold of it). I had the same problem until I started using these ones. The trick with this kind of strumming is to let the guitar do the work - trying to dig into the strings whilst playing hard is another way to lose your pick.
