I saw him in LA and loved his singing and acting. He is still the best phantom to me but then again he did originate the role.
Michael Crawford is the only REAL Phantom. The other's are just playing a part. This man transports women when they hear him sing. I want to melt in his arms. I saw the original on Broadway with MC and SB and I will NEVER forget it. Most beautiful play I have ever seen!!!

I saw Phantom here in Los Angeles with Crawford. He was plenty sexy in the part. His voice is soaring.

crawfords voice makes it sounds like his love for christine genuine, while ramin's portrayal was about his love being an obsession
I saw the phantom a few years ago in Perth, cant remember who played the parts but Im not an opera person and was surprised that the show reduced me to tears at the end. I think Crawford is the best from all I've seen on line
is it just me, but every time I hear Michael Crawford sing this I hear Cornelius Hackl from hello dolly!

My favorite phantoms are Michael Crawford and Ramin Karilloo. Ramin has that powerful amazing voice and when Michael sings you can hear the spirit of the Phantom of the Opera. Hehe I sounded smart.

As far as vocals go, there is no question that Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman are much much better than Emmy and Gerard. I'm surprised there would even be debate on the subject.
Trust me - Gerard was good, had the looks and played the Phantom well. , Michael Crawford didnt play the Phantom he WAS the Phantom. This version isnt the best as i seen him improve upon this as his vocals were really strong in latter half of his phantom career.
Lol Michael Crawford is the best Phantom and it's NOT close. Crawford and Brightman are the original cast, and they're the originals for a reason. No one comes remotely close.
Crawford is amazing, I still prefer Ramin. But Crawford is the original and he has an amazing voice!
This version, the original, the tempo was a lot faster, it was slowed down quite a bit, lyrics were changed, and we have the current version used on stage today.
Attention Gerard Butler Fans. Please don't compare him to Michael. No one beats Michael at this role. Im sorry. I grew up with the 1986 cast and this is far better.

i have been a michael crawford fan all my life... even though im only 34 it is difficult cos i think gerrard buttler is HOT. there will only ever be 1 phantom to me though..
@JonRichter96 I really did like Gerard, he's the first Phantom I ever saw, so I will always see him as the Phantom. But Crawford sings so much better :]

when did they change the carrass of the mask? the last time i saw Phantom and in the Ramin video they have the phatom flinchingaway from her touch. BUT the whole point is that he know she so mesmirised that there is no fear of her taking off the mask! when was that changed! i like it the other way!

Butler is the best Phantom for me, but i understand people, who likes Crawford. They are very different, but they are Good both.
I like Michael Crawford and his voice is AMAZING...however Gerard Butlers was very powerful and Rockstar-y and he was reallu good as the Phantom...but yes Crawford is the orignal

Wow people really need to stop comparing GB to MC! I mean I freakin luv GB, but MC kinda created the look for the phantom. I personally think GB did an amazing job tho. Nobody shud compare other phantoms to MC. Maybe GB

They're great, they really are. It's pretty obvious that Michael Crawford portrays the Phantom's....deeper qualities a lot more obviously and that's great, but I can't shake the feeling that he reminds me of the Joker in The Dark Knight here. Sorry.
Michael Crawford is amazing, one of my favourites, but I really can't stand Sarah Brightman. I think she would be a faboulous Carlotta, but I don't like her as Christine. They might be the original cast, but original does not always mean the best, or that there can't come someone better. ;)

Does anyone know what version exactly this is? All the Michael Crawford versions of this on iTunes are longer and have different lyrics. This one is a little different.

As much as i love Crawford he is not the real phantom, The Real phantom and the only reason ALW made this musical is Lon Chaney even tho he didnt sing he made that character come to life
I'm I totally crazy that Crawford is seriously one my least favorite phantoms? He's got an incredible voice, but it just isn't the dark, evil, and sexy phantom i like to think the phantom is..

@RosesNightengales I 100% agree with you on how crappy GB is and how absolutely scrum-diddlyumptious MC is, but the part about how he's NOT supposed to be sexy is false. If you watch the Behind the Mask documentary, you get interviews from MC himself and multiple others saying how the Phantom is "Sex with legs." MC portrays him sexy in a seducing way, but stupid people only see GB as being sexy for his looks, and don't see his lacking musical talent! :D
The only problem I have with Sara is that she looks so daft, sorry she just does in my opinion.

@niley4everxo okay lemme explain this to you. He's not supposed to be hot or sex. The Phantom is a disfugried musician underneath the Opera House. His mother pushed him away because of how horrible he looked. Also, Gerard can't sing. Im sorry to burst your bubbles but he cannot sing for crap. Michael is and always will be the phantom of the Opera. If you didn't like this video. Why watch it?
Sarah has a lovely voice, but the older she gets the more it sounds like a car trying to start.

@crazyphan18 The mask is supposed to be caressed, and not having the phantom flinch. If it was changed, it's a pointless change, as you say she's so entranced she has no fear. It must be an individual move by the actor which detracts from the role.

they are amazing singers but crawford is sadly not a very intense phantom, and extremely pale, I know he was the original but yeah dont believe he is the best. I wish they were just acting that now. graphics could be better. Great video though love them both ! and the show amazing live ! aswell
