In the UK during WW2, the allied code names given to two of their top test pilots was "Mutt & Jeff". It was finally revealed after the war that their real names were Mutt Summers & Geofrey DeHaviland

I remember going to Mississippi to visit my great grandfather for the last time. A 94 year old vet. We went and sat out in the yard to watch the sunset when he began his incredible storytelling about his life as a child, picking cotton, a young man in the war, losing his baby brother to vietnam as well as his hardships and perserverance. It had been hours before i realized the sun had long since gone and it was dark out. I miss those stories to this day.
This made me cry watching this. Even typing this… two brothers in their final moments able to give each other comfort. Thank you sir for your service.

My uncle, who died recently in late 2023 was a Vietnam vet who told me so many stories late in his life. I was told by my parents at a younger age to not ask him about his duties as it was a touchy subject. I didn't until his last year when he had cancer at 78. He told me so many incredible stories. Most of which included losing every friend he knew and being shot down of a helicopter. This was right b4 his cancer, which took him in just a couple of months. But before the cancer, he was in high spirits about telling his story bc I convinced him that his life is history and people should at least learn from his story. And he was receptive of that and told me to ask him anything. Long story short cancer happened so fast he was gone in a few months and in his stage he couldn'tanswer anything. I will always wonder yet what my uncle Bob had yet to say. I feel guilty for not asking questions sooner. Anyone reading this that may have a similar situation. Ask your vets. I think you and then would greatly learn amd grow from the story they have to share.
I'm sorry to hear that. My great grandfather was still alive until i was 14. Idk why, but i just never went down to meet him except once. He fought in the pacific during WWII, and i wish i took the time to ask him about his experience.

Yeah, it hits me so hard when I hear stuff like this. Makes me think about life. Makes me think about some things that I actually took for granted. I know war is hell but it also teaches a lot of things. It can be a humbling experience.

In Hell, everyone that's there did something to be there. Hell is the only place where you know those around you deserve their fate.
In war, there are too many good people paying a horrible price. An innocent recipient punishment undeserved.

Thank you for your service. My dad was at the Pearl Harbor attack. He was right outside the harbor. His ship escorted the Battleship Arizona into port the weeks before the attack. He spend thanksgiving on the Arizona November 27, 1941, with a friend of my Dad’s. His friend told my Dad “ I’ll see you at Christmas dinner” My Dad’s friend is still there… My God bless them all , and all that served past and present 🙏❤️🇺🇸

My grandpa and great uncles never talked about their time in the war. They told plenty of stories about their military careers after the war, but they never talked about the war and we didn’t press them on it.

@@jupitercyclops6521 I was Army Infantry, and I did two deployments in Iraq, and one in Afghanistan in some of the worst provinces. We saw some horrible things, but it doesn't compare to Iwo Jima if the books I've read, documentaries I've seen, and testaments I've heard are to be believed and I believe that they are.

I have seen many interviews of combat vets of many different wars/conflicts and this one really touched my heart. I know what its like to lose a brother in arms. As long i still have my mind i will not forget it. RIP Schiller.

Thank you for your brave service. My wife's grandfather stepped on a landmine in France in WW2. In surgery, he grabbed the nurse's hand. She looked at the doc and said " he won't let go. What should I do?" Doc replied " hold his damn hand! I'm about to cut his legs off. She held his hand throughout. When he awoke, she was still there. He proposed, that nurse,is my wife's grandmother. You REALLY ARE the greatest generation

They were kids who fought a manufactured war with both sides funded by the same bankers.
Yes they sacrificed their lives. They were the average sheep who believed in the ruling classes propaganda and fought their wars for them.
You never see a politician who votes for a war and put their own children on the front lines. The politicians work for the same war machine funded by the same banks.
We're luck enough nowadays that not too many poor people are in a hurry to die in manufactured wars to make the rich man richer.

Both my grandfathers fell for the Pearl Harbour set up, fell for the war propaganda. Both fought in the war. Neither one of them would say they were "hero's" they were just boys doing what they were told

My dad lost his hearing from firing 105 recoilless high powered rifle that he specialized in firing during the Korean War. He didn't die, but he lost friends. He never complained about losing his hearing ever, because I know he would've selflessly given his life. Some lose limbs, get injuries they live with until they die, many have ptsd and suffer from mental and emotional trauma.

I have my own experiences in combat, read many, seen interviews with a lot of veterans. This story hit me pretty hard, and is gonna stick out in my memory above many others.

War is tragic, it is ugly… but if you look hard enough, you can find beautiful moments like these in the history books that are worth shedding a tear for. Their death was sad, but Such loyalty to be proved is a thing of beauty in the most morbid of ways. They lost their lives but solidified their brotherhood.

I’m not condoning or condemning any certain war, I’d rather avoid the controversy, but I will say a lot of them I believe lack honor, integrity, and self defense. There is not a reason to fight those wars…But one in so many is worth the fight. I would have no problem fighting and dying for my family and my countrymen should we be invaded. But I don’t believe in fighting for foreign countries and entities as if I were a mercenary…for politicians to line their pockets or for the false name of “what if’s” and “security.”
If the first stone be casted at you, the fight has glory. But to invade, steal, and kill in the name of fear…there is no honor in that. But the wars, they won’t stop. For every man has their own ambitions and reasons for fighting. Some fight for the purpose of defending, some wish only for the title and experience…Some are just war dogs that don’t have to have a reason beyond money…A soldier of fortune. As long as we live as a species…war will always happen. The fight of good and evil is a war of eternity… where ever light is casted, a shadow will always follow. And that is why I believe war will always be. We can only hope good men stand when needed and refuse when they see the unjust to do so.

No, they were like brothers to each other.
It's because of the great depression, these people had been used to very very hard lives. My grandma and grandpa's freezer was always full. He went to bed so many nights basically only eating a flour soup he vowed to never be hungry again after all was said and done.

My father had two ammo trucks blown out from under him Africa. I tried to get him to talk about his time over their, but he wouldn't. Sir, you need to keep sharing you stories. The people today needs to hear them from someone who was there. Thank you for your service. I really appreciate it today. It makes my life a whoie lot better.
My dad fought in WW2 and would never talk about it. He lived to be 94 and was considered by those who knew him in his small town Buena Vista, CO as one of their favorite citizens who helped many people when Climax Mine closed leaving many without jobs. He was my hero anyway!

My great grandmother told me a story of how the us military massacred her tribe in New Mexico before she was placed for adoption and abused in a Catholic church. America the brutal, you're right I could have grown up in a fascist state where you're military was committing a genocide 😂😂😂 now you just kill people overseas and let your own citizens, including veterans, die of drugs and homelessness. Americans sold the world for 200 years of "progress" that only leads to environmental collapse and human starvation.

It's the idiots in suits sitting behind desks & religious fanatics making the same mistakes over and over again who are the ones that should feel regret. Maybe if politicians & religious leaders were capable of feeling regret, they wouldn't get into such terrible situations for everyone else to begin with.

I deployed 4 times. So from experience, when you deploy, you sometimes have to do things or things happen that you just don’t want to talk about again. And sometimes you make a story less exciting than it actually was because you a lot of people don’t understand how you could do something like that or see something so bad and still calmly tell a story about it 😢
My Grandfather never ever talked about the war. When asked he would go quiet and stare for a minute before telling us War Sucks.

My dad was in Vietnam, he served two tours. He denied having PTSD, but my mom was sure he had it. He told us some of the inhumane he saw done to the bodies, but not much. For the most part he refused to talk about it.
When the first Gulf War happened, he thought he might be recalled even though he had been discharged for over 10 years. Considering his age, I asked why he would think that. He had worked in a MASH unit and he thought they might need him to train new medics. Fortunately that didn't happen. He passed in 2001.
This hurts my heart. We can never forget what these men have done for us. 😢

Its just that their military doesnt wage war all over the place. Sure the war benefits US's economy, US is famous for waging war for profit. But if you kept your soldiers within your borders or in foreign allies bases and all that you sure as hell would be just as free. My great Uncle was awarded the purple Heart from the battle at Iwo Jima. The award letter (I now have as a 2nd Gen Marine) was received by his parents nearly two months after his injuries sustained. Semper Fi and RIP Uncle Mike and those brave men you fought along side of.
My wife’s grandpa had a letter dated a month late that said he was wounded on IWO against the enemy on feb 19. Then a follow up letter the next month that said his injuries were to the head and hand. Then the last letter came in May and that one said your son returned to duty on feb 26 and resumed normal duties. Unbelievable sacrifice that generation made
