Great, honest and insightful reviews as always. I enjoyed this test and expected a bigger difference to be honest, great to know the machine is very capable. Cheers!
Chris - I can’t thank you enough for the comment AND the super thanks!! It’s been a long 12 hour day editing that and for you to do that has made my day! Thank you so much 🙏🏻
@@DavidLewisTech ooow, nice! Tricky one for me to answer as I’ve not owned an iPad for nearly a decade. It just didn’t fit my use cases - I do personal admin on MacBook and iPhone to take care of the rest. I am very keen on an iPad Mini now though. Hanging on for May 7th just in case v7 is announced, although all rumours point to Autumn as you’re well aware! The OLED display on an iPad Pro intrigues me, a comparison to the Mini LED of current models would be cool. Cheers again!
hi Chris - we've just finished recording the podcast - Minus Sixteen (video and audio) it'll be up tomorrow and we had a good chat about iPads on that. Having never got into iPads I am so looking forward to getting my hands ion the new Pro to see what it's all about...
Finally a useful and informative "real life experience" video. Take-away: if you're making money with your projects, max out. Otherwise, save the money and improve your skills until you make money. Great vibes.
Well said! Totally! This MBA brings the 'professional' life to everybody at a fraction of the cost! Creativity is within the grasp of so many more people with Macs like this...
@@DavidLewisTech David, just got my new 15" M3 MBA (16 GB, 500 GB) in midnight. BIG step up from my 2018 Retina 13" MBA (Intel, also 16 GB, 500 GB). It is a great laptop. Thanks for your advice! PS: I have no problems with finger prints or smudges. I actually prefer silver, but silver was delayed where I live (Switzerland), so I went with the midnight. No complaints.
man - you are in for some great experiences. These M3 MBAs are insanely good. I am so impressed by it. Really chuffed you let me know. Hope you love working on it!
Great video. I love your video vibes. They’re tight and focused while comfortably down to earth. It’s like listening to a very smart friend explain how to get the best from our computers while we’re drinking coffee at the coffee shop. The MacBook Air is the ENTRY level machine. The M series has really changed it from a spinning wheel, hot, jet engine to a very dependable workhorse in a pinch.
Awesome! Thank you! I know you've watched me 'grow' and find my voice. The fact you've highlighted that it's like sitting down with a friend is exactly the vibe I wanted to create; comfortable and informative (hopefully) but without the need for a degree in science to understand it. Yup, Apple silicon has pretty much re-invented the wheel, Sharon... Thanks for all the support and always taking the time to get involved...
Great Video! I love your contents, so thank you for your work. I still have a MacBook Pro Intel early 2015 8/128 and I want to upgrade to a M3 MacBook Air 13" 16gb/512ssd. I am always travelling and I need a light and comfortable pc. I use the Mac for work and sometimes I need to use some Virtual Machine. I think that 16gb/512ssd might be good enough.
Another great video, David. Whenever a new Macbook comes out this is what I'm looking for, a breakdown of performance when video editing. Still deciding between the M3 Air and 14" MBP M3 Pro. In the end after watching so many videos I think I'll just have to buy either one, test it out and take advantage of the return policy if I change my mind.
hi ya - glad the video helped. Whichever way you jump I can promise you you'll not be disappointed. The fact the timeline scrolled so smoothly was simply amazing!! Let me know which one you end up with...
thank you! Today I'll be writing my blog about AirPods Max and then later today recording the members newsletter ready for Sunday and then the podcast which will go up tomorrow. Just your average day 🫢 😀
Great video...sub earned. What I'm really keen to know is how well FCP copes on this machine with 3d tracker from motion vfx. I have an M2 air and it copes ok to a point but I can't do too many effects like this.
Awesome, thank you! I’m just waiting on the Final Cut Camera app to come out and then I’ll be doing a deep dive into FCP on iPad. Apple have invited me to an event to learn all about…
I know this misses the whole point of the video, but I wonder what the export time would be like if the Macbook Air had some sort of heat dissipation aid. Your export results were slower in the M3 -in part- because of thermal throttling.
yeah - valid and I did think that, but as you know the thought behind the video was to show what this 16 GB MBA is like out of the box....hope you enjoyed and thanks for commenting 🤛🏻
For your workflow, it's pretty good. You should have gone 32GB to have some headroom for 10bit 8K but it will work 5-6 years just fine. But for fun, if you really want to see how weak this laptop is, run even a basic language model, like a mini-chatgpt running on your computer. So, here is why that matters. The future processes are going to be using AI cores, so your M3 and my M2 will handle things for a while but the AI and Machine learning generation for our video in the future will make us buy new sooner than later.
Thanks for the interesting test and comparison. Apple made a huge leap with the M1 chips. I am still completely satisfied with my MacBook Pro 14 with M1 Pro (Digital Marketing). Greetings from Ukraine 🇺🇦, thanks to Great Britain 🇬🇧.
Awesome to see this, as it is the most comparable model to my M3 iMac 24gb/1tb, I've yet to see pushed to it's "limits". I'd love to see someone do a video of a "spec'd out" M3 iMac/MacBook Air 24gb ram. 1-2tb memory, and really push it, to compare with Pro/Max/Ultra and other PC's. ✌🏻🇦🇺
man - if I had the money I'd make that video in the blink of an eye! My budget is about to be blown on the new iPad Pro though...anything you'd like to see in that video?
@@DavidLewisTech I know it’s been done 100 times before, with the M1 and M2 models. But with Apple rumored to be leaning this iPad Pro and updated Magic KeyPad (Pro?) to have more of a MacBook “feel”, I’d love to see how the M3 iPad Pro stacks up against the M3 MacBook Air, or could it replace a MacBook (for Uni/work etc.) if you have an iMac/MacBook at home. (Basically what I’m saying is, I’m currently saving for the MBA, but really want an iPad Pro. First world problems!)
100% that's a video I'll make. Luckily I have the latest M3 iMac and MacBook Air to compare it to. Day 1 I'll be at the front of the queue and it'll be my first proper iPad!!
..do it Thomas...do it! I made a jump into the unknown and it has been one of the best things I've ever done! I'm always here if I can help at all. Just get the reps in...it is SO rewarding...thanks for all your amazing support Thomas
...I'm still waiting for that day to arrive! My last payout last week was just over £150! My writing on Medium is what is carrying the channel - that and a few sponsored videos....
ok James - it could be an interesting approach as it would very much be from a ground zero point of view. I came to it a month ago with zero FCP knowledge...
