Thanks for showing your minivan camper in action. You were really clever to store your spare tire in your cargo box. And of course I like your setup, but I already said that in your previous video.
Would you ever cut a vent hole where your spare tire is located? I've seen examples of chinese diesel heaters enclosed in a box, and used as a tent heater. But with a vent under the floor, you could do the same! And maybe you could use a tailgater tire table to support the heater outside your vehicle. -I'm always dreaming about my future campervan, and I intend to copy many of your ideas!
@@markmcla So far I haven't gone down the heater path. Since I just use the van for trips and don't live in it full time, I have been happy with just warm sleeping bags and blankets. Also, the west coast isn't nearly as cold as some parts of the country. Some friends of mine used a little propane "Buddy" heater in their van and liked it. You definitely have to crack the windows open if you're running something like that.
@@richardmann3396 Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, Foresty Forest is a very adventurous guy. I enjoy his videos quite a bit. Indeed, his heater seems to work well.
@@alantwigg8357 I recently bought a rare zodi hot tent vent propane heater on ebay. It's nice! I hope to someday adapt this heater to a minivan setup like you have. My preliminary ideas are on a website I recently made, sacredtime101.com/videos.html (You have to scroll to the bottom of the page.) I can't wait to enjoy some winter camping!
Hi, Alan. Just came across your videos. Nice, simple set-up. I love the trash idea! You're so right... it's the food stuff that gets nasty. I have the 3rd gen Sienna with the sh*t-designed 2nd-row rails that stick up 2.5" from the floor. Such a headache! Great minivan for space though. I try to take a Japanese minimalist approach to my set-up which includes a sink with running water, a dresser/bench, folding e-bike, truck fridge, twin futon and a cabinet for electronics (including a jackery). It's m 3rd build and I love thinking of cool ways to solve problems. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
I know it's a Yakima and it's an older style (because it only opens on one side vs both sides). I got it used. I would guess it's about the same as a Yakima Rocket Box 12 or 14.
Thanks for sharing. Did you leave 3rd row seats in? And did you put spare tire up top to add ground clearance, or because bolt was not accessible under your flooring?
Hi David, sorry for the delay. I missed this comment somehow. So far I've left the 3rd row seats in, because I sometimes convert the van back to a passenger carrier. But taking them out would add a ton of storage. I usually put the full size spare up top in the rooftop box. After 3 years of driving all sorts of gravel roads, I haven't had a flat yet. The van has the small donut spare underneath. I tried mounting the full size spare down there but the clearances aren't good. It's really hard to reach through and unhitch the bolt carrier from the rim, and with it in the up position it reduces your ground clearance on that side by quite a bit. I concluded it would be too tricky trying to do that in a real-world situation.
Hey there, this video was shot in Eastern Oregon. I don't know that the desert has an official name. The nearest cities would be Christmas Valley and Burns.
I love that you separate trash and compost good for you!!!
Great idea about the bug nets and magnets
I like the idea of the futon mattress. We have a 2014 Sienna and will be taking a couple 10 camping trips per year. I need a comfy bed too.

Love you simplicity ideas. Could you give a link to your futon.
Hi there, sadly I can't provide a link. The mattress was purchased too long ago and the company is a small local shop that doesn't sell online. Sorry!
Hi Alan, Thank you sharing for the simplicity & practicality of your camping van. What is the brand, model & size of your roof-mounted storage box?
