    Around 30 years ago I studied many old 1940's / 1970's books on folded horns, Helmholtz resonators, etc.. I have two 15 Ohm 15" Tannoy monitors (folded suspension) and the cabinets are just a bit bigger. Takes 3 to lift them. Even now after all those years I would not change anything. What's was good enough for the BBC is good enough for me. Lovely to see someone taking pride in what they do. I am a little surprised there is no sound absorption anywhere but if it sounds right - it is right. Ask in a shop these days what the resonant frequency or the dB / Watt of a speaker is and they look at you as if you come from the planet Zod. My advice to anyone regardless of budget is do your homework , there is an awful lot of expensive crap out there. These little speakers on the video do look good, perhaps some soft feet? Being picky.

      jp it seems we studied almost the same lecture :) . Exactly 30 years ago I built my first subwoofer based on Helmholtz resonance effect (impressive gain in small frequency range). It was 120L box splitted 1/3 - 2/3 of the capacity with 30cm low frequency speaker. Two tunnels (110mm) 5cm and 25 cm long . Bandwith 18-130Hz without sub-filters . I loved when my mum was shouting - "...switch it off because all glasses are vibrating ..." :)

    Beautiful cabinetry. Needs a tweeter and also loose sound-absorbing insulation in the rear transmission line to reduce mid and high frequencies which arrive at the rear port out of phase with the front speaker.

    • @Goonaroi
      @Goonaroi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bass speaker would have a top range of 12khz which is below the 16khz minimum needed for high fidelity. The world famous Rogers LS35A BBC monitor uses a similar woofer with a KEF T27 tweeter. The bottom range of the T27 overlaps the top range of the woofer giving a balanced sound. Adding sound absorbency material to the transmission line reduces and absorbs unwanted frequencies radiated from the rear of the cone without affecting the frequencies you do want. The transmission line is designed to reinforce low frequencies lacking in the small bass driver. That is from about 200hz and below. Everything above 200 hz only deminishes the clarity of the sound.

      Transmission line speakers have been around for 50 years or more. They always have sound absorbency fabric. The timber cabinet can vibrate and create unwanted harmonics from the higher frequencies (500khz+) you don’t want. Place your hand on your speaker cabinet, if you can feel vibration put your ear on the cabinet and listen to the muffled ‘timber speaker’ adding to the sound of the cone speaker at the front.

    Your transmission line system is brilliant and produces amazing low frequency response but the midrange appears to be colored by cavity resonance within the unlined\unfilled enclosure. This can easily be remedied by stuffing the enclosure with polyester wool available for the purpose. Trial and error stuffing density will yield the desired tonal qualities. I built my own 12 inch 3 way Onkyo transmission line system using much the same principle of 1/4 wave cavity resonance to enhance the bass.

      As someone that owns fe206 fullrange in back loaded horn loosing a little high is well wort it, Voices and imaging are just amazing and instruments sound real. Unfortunately as soon as you add a second speaker you have phasing problems as both driver will be a different distance from you, unless your head remains in a vice.If you ever get a chance to listen to some they will sound a little thin at first as the cabinets dont fill in the sound very much, but if you iove voices and the sound of real instruments , although no perfect you wont look back, promise.

      Google "benefits of folded horn design"! The 'inner labyrinth' resonates in sympathy with the fundamental frequency of the bass speaker, producing clean and undistributed bass. The 'loudness' of this design is maximum, allowing it to be driven by low power amps, unlike the commoner (and much cheaper) 'infinte baffle' type - ie a sealed box.

    It would be much more dramatic if you use flash paper to lay out the pins, then light it on fire to move to the next step.

      コメント有り難うございます。アロンアルファ木工用瞬間接着剤とその硬化スプレーです。瞬間接着剤は比較的ズレには強いですが衝撃に弱いので、タイトボンドが硬化するまでの時間つなぎに使ってます。
