Nice review! It's interesting to see how their pens have evolved over time. I have one of the first gen Momento Zeros and unlike many companies, Salva is putting effort to improve his products.
I got mine last October. My sea anemone is more brown with a little gold and some purple. I have #68 with a fine flex that seems to allow some non-shading inks to shade, which I like.
I have a Leonardo Furore in Smeraldo. It's mesmerizing. I'm going to ink it now. This gorgeous 2.0 and the material is very well done. Leonardo is a design champion.
Italian pens are indeed beautiful in their looks and overall design. I am looking forward to spanning my collection to cover Italian brands. Next time I step by an FP store, I think I will try out Leonardo and Aurora. Thanks for this great review!
I don't have a Leonardo pen in my (modest) collection. Yet. This pen looks beautiful and the ink window is a real plus! The cursive nib certainly adds flair to ones handwriting, that would be very nice to play around with! 😍
I really like that they put an ink window in this model. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!!! Be safe and warm in this cold weather we’re having in the Raleigh area.
David-I appreciate that’s you keep us up to date on the various models of Leonardo pens as they are released.. I feel as if I’ve been able to make more informed choices rather than just buying a model when it’s released and looks interesting to me. I wanted to get a Momento Zero Grande, and finally did so when the Supernova came out. This new one is certainly tempting at this price, but there are many pens I don’t have that I should purchase before another Momento Zero Grande. I am interested in the new nib you demonstrated. Is that going to be available as a separate purchase or only on this pen?
Great review. I’m curious how you’d compare nibs of new and old. Especially given that the ebonite feed is not there anymore. I had a few issues with my MZG burping. Is that the culprit?
I have this pen, got mine with the gold EF flex nib. So far, I am not sure that I like it. I have to mess with it more. I do love the look of these pens so I went back for the Stardust and this time went with the steel stub nib which writes nicely. On Black Friday, I was able to snag the angel skin version for a very good price with the rose gold medium nib, which is so beautiful to look at. What do you think of the new nibs? I have been having issues with the gold nibs hard starting and just stop writing all together to where I have to prime the feed (multiple times). I do clean my pens when I get them. The steel nib was smooth out of the box. These Leonardo pens have become an addiction to me, my first one was after your review of the momento magico white salt. Ever since that one I have had a BIG problem LOL. Thank you for all the wonderful reviews. Hope you have a nice holiday.
Thank you for a very interesting video. This is certainly a pen I might get although the Grande size looks less comfortable than the standard size, (at least for my size of hand, as I find the Pelikan M800 the largest size I enjoy writing with). I have one question: you mentioned that this came with a cursive smooth italic nib: is that widely available as it does not appear listed in European sellers' websites? I have soft elastic Leonardo nibs on a couple of my standard size Momento Zeroes which produce a nice line variation, so I wonder whether you are not referring to the 'elastico' nibs when you mention the 'cursive italic' nibs?
I'm interested in that new italic nib! Or, is it new? Haha I don't think I've seen them offered anywhere. Will have to look into it and possibly buy just a nib unit, though I LOVE the Baobab as well. But alas, my wallet will not like me! Anyway, Happy Holidays Figboot and all!
Excellent review as usual. Of course the CI nib was juicy - you just primed it! 😊 Are the gold nibs made in house? Also, count me in for a Figboot SE on this model! Merry Christmas, David!
Great Review. I recently picked up the Stardust version in M. I love it. I am considering adding the Sea Anemone in B. Any chance of a Figboot/Brooks/Leonardo collaboration on this model?
@@FigbootonPens I have seen a few of your collaborations and love them. How would I find out about these in time to purchase one? I am in Canada and hope that won't make a difference. I have been given a gift from my husband of purchasing a pen of my choice as a Christmas gift paid for by him. I have 2 Leonardo pens. The Momento Magico in Smeraldo lovjng only gold trims & nibs, and a Momento Zero Grande in Sand. I am having trpuble finding an ink to compliment the neutral colour of the Sand Spaghetti resin.

Great review, David. I do have a question. I recently bought a MZG Mosaico. It does not have a window but it also does not have the step up grip section. The booklet says the nib and feed are friction fit. Do you think it does not have the same nib and feed assembly?
I think losing the ebonite feed in the 2.0 model makes that a big turn off compared to the Momento zero grandes. I always thought that was a nice selling point for Leonardo is that you get an Ebonite feed with a steel nib ,shame that they got rid of that.
5:50 This is what I don't understand about this guy, $225 is an attractive price? You can get the Pilot 74 or a Platinum 3776 that have gold nibs for under $100, The Lamy 2000 has a gold nib and you can get that for under $150. This is a nice looking pen but you're paying for a big piece of pretty plastic. If a pen manufacturer charges $200+ there had better be a gold nib. The only other company that is even more unreasonable than Leonardo is Montegrappa who charges $375 for steel nib pens but Figboot would rave about the cheap price.
While the pens you mentioned are indeed some of the best "reasonably priced" gold nib options available, in the market as a whole, it is exceedingly rare to have a new pen in the low $200 range offered with a gold nib. In comparison to what this pen brings to the table in its entirety, and in comparison to what else is being introduced to the market in this price range, I stand by my assertion that this pen is priced attractively.
@@FigbootonPens I bought a Platinum 3776 Carnelian Red with a Music Nib for $100, a Platinum 3776 for $76, a Lamy 2000 for $115, a Pilot 823 for $147, an Aurora Talentum Celestial Blue for $145, a Delta Dolce Vita Oro Oversize for $170, all from auctions from ebay And another dozen vintage pens with gold nibs for under $150. There are plenty of options to get cheap gold nib pens. The nib is the heart and soul of all fountain pens and if I want a basic steel nib on an oversize pen with pretty plastic I'll just get a chinese or indian pen for 75% less or get my own custom made pen for the $225. $225 for a basic steel nib, a giant piece of pretty plastic and a third rate piston filler is fraudulent in my mind.
@troy smith When I discuss price, I need to speak to new units sold via retail, not what someone may or may not be able to purchase for on eBay. Also, please understand the difference between what you personally are willing to spend, vs what the market will dictate. You have every right to have personal limits in regard to what you are willing to spend for particular features. But that doesn't automatically mean that everything that exceeds those amounts is "fraudulent".
troy, you are so disrespectful with your comment but i have to admit that i'm glad someone called him out on his so called reviews, figboot's reviews have turned into commercials for the big brands
It's nice to have a Leonardo review in our stockings on Christmas Eve.
Great review... love Leonardo

Congratulations on the new logo. It's striking, contemporary, and renders well even at a very small size.

The black grip is a turn-off, the plastic feed OK but a disappointment, and I like the barrel shape of the grip on the Momento Zero much better.
Loving the new logo! (assuming its new, don't remember seeing it before).
Thanks. Yes...new as of earlier this week.

For the Mosaico, the nib and feed is friction fit...so they just pull right out. So, yes, it is a different assembly than on this pen.
I have a stardust version with 1.5mm stub. Got it at appelboom for 170$. Normally it's 214$ there. I love it!!!
The cost at Appelboom is $240 including shipping. The cost from retailers in the US is about $235.
@@user-br3sl9go3b when I bought it on appelboom I got 20% off of 214.
Since Leonardo has changed their nib supplier, the new Jowo nibs are way more finer. I would suggest ppl to get medium size.
