The "For now" tag at the end of statement gives me an uneasy feeling about this. I wouldn't be surprised that after Avengers Secret Wars that Sony will announce that they'll resume their adjacent Spider-Man films for the foreseeable future. The only good part about this is that Kevin Feige has said recently that he plans of introducing Miles Morales in the MCU presumably after Secret Wars since he still wants to focus on Peter now. But Miles probably can't be a member of the Young Avengers/Champions if that team's story will be told as a Disney+ series. So, it looks like he'll be introduced in MCU Spider-Man 5 and just go on from there.

What was the last MCU based video game that was any good? The best next step imo is to trade. Disney tells Sony they can keep the animated Spiderverse and all video games, but if Sony gives back SM and all related characters then they gain the rights to make all future Marvel games. As well as a percentage of the movies those characters are in. Neither Marvel nor DC have incorporated video games as part of their extended universes. Marvel writers write the stories of the games so they stay in canon, but they let Sony do what they’re actually good at and make the game. Then they can have games as another branch of storytelling within the MCU.

One thing I'm surprised more people aren't suggesting, and you all might know since you have a relationship with the people who wrote "MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios", is that maybe the reason Sony greenlit all these movies is just as an insurance policy to keep the rights. That is to say, Sony's license for Spider-Man (the original 1990s one) was written as a "use it or lose it" contract. So Sony needs to keep a Spider-Man movie in production at all times to prevent the rights from reverting to Marvel. Obviously they satisfy this requirement by making Tom Holland MCU films, but maybe they just want to be safe in the event Marvel has some delays that prevent them from cranking out the next Tom Holland picture. The money Sony makes on just one MCU Spider-Man film more than washes out all their losses on these movies (and some of them make a profit), so it makes financial sense for them to keep cranking out stinkers that are technically Spider-Man movies. Also when did we find out that Sony isn't allowed to use Spider-Man in live action under the new deal? I feel like that was only ever reported after the second edition of "MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios" came out.

They have some other spider heroes. I suspect that Disney has locked down Miles Morales, but the Spider-Verse comics introduced a lot more spider-heroes that aren't Peter Parker or Miles. They could always use this. By having heroes, then they can let their villains be villains. Instead of trying to make them all anti-heroes.
💯 It’s been Disney’s problem with the MCU after Endgame, and I’m hoping Disney doesn’t think Wolverine and Deadpool did well bc it dragged from the bottom of the barrel of fan service…I mean who wanted Elektra back? Seriously. The MCU needs to get back to its roots and adapt comics faithfully but with fresh perspectives that work as great movies. Sony has been clueless about this since Venom was halfway enjoyable.
my favorite videos are always the ones with the three of yall talking, love seeing Tommy. and i gotta say Colton's lookig hella sharp with the buzz cut!
Imagine if Wanda comes back for Secret Wars and KRAVEN Pietro pops up from the Sonyverse. Same goes with Hydra Captain America and Tony Doom. Everyone you think is an ally isn’t. It would have the 616 characters on the back foot. And Captain America doesn’t necessarily have to be the Hydra one either. There was another Earth where the Avengers were not the good guys and left their Earth to die during an incursion. They came to 616 pretending to be heroes.
If they’re gonna do a true center of sex or just Spider-Man, they need to make it a trilogy that way you can build every single villain character and make an epic fight. Hell you could bring Miles into it and make the second one really tragic for Peter.

I agree that the ideal scenario is to expand the Spider-Man deal to ALL of the Spider-Man characters. But in my heart of hearts, I just want Disney to buy them out so badly.
I wonder sometimes if the people making the movies shouldn't buy characters. They should buy STORIES. Each one of these should have had Spider Man fighting the villain in an adaptation of their best appearance in the comics. AND THEN it would build up to a Sinister Six, Avengers style crossover ensemble.
I think everyone here is ignoring the elephant in the room: Netflix. As long as Netflix is around, they will continue their stated mission of becoming a monopoly, and that means death for larger Studios like Disney. When fighting this streaming war, a company needs 2 things, 1) Peak programming to draw people in. That's why Netflix is trying to "become HBO faster than HBO can become HBO". 2) A massive library to keep people there once they've joined. For Netflix, that means the huge number of old TV shows and movies they can license from smaller studios. Disney is certainly keeping up in the first category, but they only have so much to draw on with their own library and Hulu's ever shifting catalog. To really fight off Netflix, they need to buy up some of these smaller studios Netflix has been working with, and the biggest one of those is Sony. So the real conversation shouldn't be about what's Sony going to do, it's what's Disney.
Hey Ryan, since we are from the corporate perspective on these IP characters and adaptions, can you another similar of another adaptions like the new Harry Potter series and the challenges it posses and what drastic or polarising decisions they might make?
I’m 90% sure that all of these movies were Sony’s attempt to show Marvel that they could make a successful franchise and entice them to work together. They just wildly overestimated the market and their ability.
C or D list villains who are one dimensional gimmicks cannot be made to headline films that cost hundreds of millions to make. The public at large knew none of these. The people making these movies were not fans or even interested in the characters or continuity or setting. There was no guiding control building a unified pattern or story. These were always gonna be failures.
Sony should just sell the character back to Marvel while it's still worth something. I don't think I'm being unfair in saying that if Sony try to go it alone with Spiderman after the reset, the chance that they'll be able to do anything good is basically non existent. I know that seems harsh, but they've proven their incompetence time and time again and as Ryan said, even their non-superhero films are doing terribly. In their position I would obviously try to do a better job, but it's clearly so far beyond what they're capable of, that they really need to ask themselves a basic question: What's the upside of even staying in the movie business based on their recent track record? And if they do decide to stay in the movie business, then they need proper creative leadership immediately, and again, I'm not talking about the super hero creatives, but just their plain old movie making creatives. They should just sell SM back to Marvel for the cash infusion so that they can rebuild their studio around non-superhero films, because they at least have some chance of doing that with normal movies. Sure, they'll never be blockbusters, but they've got to start somewhere and the place they should start is with focusing on basically realistic stories, because the non-realistic is something they suck at. If they keep making SM related abortions, it's just a matter of time until the IP is damaged beyond repair, so they should cut bait and live to fight another day. And they should stay far far away from superhero movies because they clearly don't understand them.
With Marvel Studios' output of 3 movies a year, no it's not good for Sony or the fans to wait 1 movie every 5 years. Sony needs to do their own thing and be good at it.
"Sony Kills the Spider-Man "Villain-Verse"...For Now" If there is a God in heaven, may he smite down any Sony exec who even suggests another Sony Picture live action Spidey villain project.
The best thing to happen, however unlikely is for Sony to sell the movie rights back to Marvel. Because they have been trashing Spider-Man, IMO since 2008.
Does anyone think Tom Hanks should dress as Walt Disney and do that speech from saving Mr banks about selling the rights to Mary poppins but instead say Peter Parker and see if that convinces Sony?
No way Disney pays billions for Spiderman. They already own the merchandising rights. You have to a have a return on investment. At least with Lucasfilm and Marvel, there has been a clear return on investment for what Disney paid.
Sony has been responsible for the best Spiderman movies (Spiderverse) and the worst (Spiderman adjacent content). Couldn't they have sent any of these scripts to the Spiderverse writers for a once over?

They have some other spider heroes. I suspect that Disney has locked down Miles Morales, but the Spider-Verse comics introduced a lot more spider-heroes that aren't Peter Parker or Miles. They could always use this.
By having heroes, then they can let their villains be villains. Instead of trying to make them all anti-heroes.
My favorite part in Kraven was when Kraven actually slapped everyone from the Spider-Verse.
Colton is looking way better with his new haircut! 👍
my favorite videos are always the ones with the three of yall talking, love seeing Tommy. and i gotta say Colton's lookig hella sharp with the buzz cut!
Colton, who is generally pretty positive, is BIG mad
Imagine if Wanda comes back for Secret Wars and KRAVEN Pietro pops up from the Sonyverse. Same goes with Hydra Captain America and Tony Doom. Everyone you think is an ally isn’t. It would have the 616 characters on the back foot. And Captain America doesn’t necessarily have to be the Hydra one either. There was another Earth where the Avengers were not the good guys and left their Earth to die during an incursion. They came to 616 pretending to be heroes.
I agree, Colton looks like a bad ass lol I'm digging his new look. I was noticing a wardrobe difference for a while too. Looks good!
Like the fresh cut Colton
If they’re gonna do a true center of sex or just Spider-Man, they need to make it a trilogy that way you can build every single villain character and make an epic fight. Hell you could bring Miles into it and make the second one really tragic for Peter.
My marvel timeline: 12/13/24 update
-The infinity saga is arranged by looper and the following sagas are all arranged by me.
-All numbered (1,2,3,etc.) content is the MCU/sacred timeline. Those are the movies, shows and shorts that you want to watch in order.
-Anything marked with a “•” is additional/optional content for the advanced fan (added by myself).
-I added the defenders, fox-verse, agent Carter and misc content to accompany the main timeline and fill in the gaps.
-The key to the symbols are located at the bottom of the list.

€-from the looks of it, these two movies may continue where the eternals left off. We just have to wait and see (update: the eternals is the build up to CA brave new world and Thunderbolts so I placed it after Deadpool and Wolverine). I am also predicting “What if…” S:3 will take place after X-men ‘97 due to the appearance of the watcher. If this is not the case, I will move it to its correct space in the timeline.
@-stand-alone sagas/episodes that are seperate, but still contribute to the continuity of the sacred timeline.
%-included for the hell of it. You don’t have to watch the fox movies, but it kinda adds to the WADP and SMNWH cameos.
I also included Cloak and dagger under this category because it mentions Luke Cage and Misty. Leigion, the runaways and the new mutants, accompany the fox X-men saga (They have nothing to do with the Deadpool movies or mentioned anywhere alse on the MCU timeline). The Ghost rider movies also contribute to the origin of Reyes’ Ghostrider in AOS S:4. Runaways was added because of the Dr. Strange references and mentions the Loa from cloak and dagger. Madame web, Kraven, and Morbius can all suck a fat one. You don’t have to watch them but they add to a dark time in the multiverse saga.
A-Agents of shield episodes that precede and/or proceed main events in the main MCU timeline.
DS-Defenders saga episodes that precede and/or proceed main events in the main MCU timeline.
$-Sonyverse aka trash.
Let me know what you think and enjoy the list!
P.S. Madam web is trash. I put it there because it introduces the web of events, and opens up the 616 to the Sonyverse; post what if…S:2.
May god have mercy on the souls of the people that made this movie.
Colton is not pulling his punches with Sony's b.s.! He's giving me Bully Maguire vibes. Its like he's in his black suit era!
The Wrestler will forever be the Aunt May solo movie in our hearts
SPUMM (Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Movies) would have been a much better acronym.
I agree that the ideal scenario is to expand the Spider-Man deal to ALL of the Spider-Man characters. But in my heart of hearts, I just want Disney to buy them out so badly.
Hey Colton - YOU'RE IN A TV! RYAN IS KEEPING YOU TRAPPED!! YOU HAVE TO GET OUT!!!!!!!
What channel is Colton on? 😉 Looking good dude
Wow almost didn't recognized colton different person with a cut
I wonder sometimes if the people making the movies shouldn't buy characters. They should buy STORIES. Each one of these should have had Spider Man fighting the villain in an adaptation of their best appearance in the comics. AND THEN it would build up to a Sinister Six, Avengers style crossover ensemble.
10B for Spider-Man and ALL the other IP Sony has? Reportedly close 900 characters?
R.I.P. Sony Spider-Man blah blah verse... Though, it's been dead and un-buried for a while now ...
Colton, GREAT haircut
👍👍👍
I think everyone here is ignoring the elephant in the room: Netflix.
As long as Netflix is around, they will continue their stated mission of becoming a monopoly, and that means death for larger Studios like Disney.
When fighting this streaming war, a company needs 2 things,
1) Peak programming to draw people in.
Looks like Colton got out of the television for a haircut!!
Sony reminding their employees not to react to anything as a Sony employee xD
no Aunt May movie? but they could've given her cosmic powers and called her Golden Oldie
Hey Ryan, since we are from the corporate perspective on these IP characters and adaptions, can you another similar of another adaptions like the new Harry Potter series and the challenges it posses and what drastic or polarising decisions they might make?
Amazing Spiderman 2 was a complete bomb so Sony making a solo Spiderman movie is not a certified hit
Wait.. if Colton is stuck in the TV ..how\who cut his hair.....??....
YOUR MOM !!
😝😝😝
They have Scarlet Spider, are you telling me Sony couldn't do a streamlined Clone Saga?
I’m 90% sure that all of these movies were Sony’s attempt to show Marvel that they could make a successful franchise and entice them to work together. They just wildly overestimated the market and their ability.
I cant understand why they did not jump back into
Andrew or Toby’s SM.
10:55 SHOTS FIRED!! 😅😅
my only disappointment here lies in the fact that we may never get to see him face off against the god of symbiotes
Man-wolf can be done. Wolf movies are easy, just tune up the gore and blood and shock and jumpscaries.
Whats gonna happen is that somewhere in the next decade they'll have deadpool vs spiderman where all these slop-villains will show up and get roasted
Oh shit that slick check on Colton and his reply was clean. GJ
So does this mean Sony is removing Avi Arad from their movie department??? Every one of those movies he had a lot of input in.
In their position I would obviously try to do a better job, but it's clearly so far beyond what they're capable of, that they really need to ask themselves a basic question:
What's the upside of even staying in the movie business based on their recent track record?
I think that Spider-Man 4 will of all
Three Peter rescuing the Sony Spider-Man villains before they erased them
Colton looks great. looks like he has been working out
just reveal that the Sony Spider-Men were actually Ben Reilly or/and Kaine Parker.
🕸️😎🕸️
These dudes already foreshadowing that Kraven is a stinker
the mcu could have an entire corner of just spider people and sony could keep all the merch sales and just collect money
In MCU: Peter Parker spiderman movies, animated spiderman series, Miles movie/series, spiderwoman movie series, quen series, 2099 series, etc.
Imagine owning the movie rights to spiderman but not being able to use him and refusing to sell them.
Sony should get Joe Quesada as their Feige
Great point about the casting my guy on the right.
I hope you guys never change
With Marvel Studios' output of 3 movies a year, no it's not good for Sony or the fans to wait 1 movie every 5 years. Sony needs to do their own thing and be good at it.
"Sony Kills the Spider-Man "Villain-Verse"...For Now"
If there is a God in heaven, may he smite down any Sony exec who even suggests another Sony Picture live action Spidey villain project.
The best thing to happen, however unlikely is for Sony to sell the movie rights back to Marvel. Because they have been trashing Spider-Man, IMO since 2008.
Arby's has burgers, they are great but they are tiny. Not quite White Castle or Krystal's tiny but you will definitely need more than one. 😂
DING DONG THE SONY VERSE IS DEAD T-SHIRT?????
Does anyone think Tom Hanks should dress as Walt Disney and do that speech from saving Mr banks about selling the rights to Mary poppins but instead say Peter Parker and see if that convinces Sony?
Fuck yes nickolas cage, now we just need Keanu Reeves
AHHH!!! Colton got a haircut! And it's Gooooood!!!
Colton looking so fresh today
The Sony Pictures Unified Narrative: Kraven or SPUNK
No way Disney pays billions for Spiderman. They already own the merchandising rights. You have to a have a return on investment. At least with Lucasfilm and Marvel, there has been a clear return on investment for what Disney paid.
Im here for Colton's bad boy era. 😉
Who owns Spider woman and the Scarlet Spider? They could have used them and Venom and actually did something
Remember when Sony had time to make movies that were not attached to Spiderman at all? 😂
Sony has been responsible for the best Spiderman movies (Spiderverse) and the worst (Spiderman adjacent content). Couldn't they have sent any of these scripts to the Spiderverse writers for a once over?
Colton looks so Ka-YOOT with his new haircut. Yes I said it. 🥰
