This was an epic experience. Instrumental makes me think of ancient times. 9th place is way too low for this masterpiece. Deserved top 5 at least!

I love it. I watched it at 1995 ESC. Classic, that s why they call every year Alex to perform and sing this powerfull song.
1995 was truly a vintage year for Eurovision Song Contest. So many rich and powerful songs like this one, which, I agree, was probably the best Cyprus has ever sent.
How fabulous to see this again. I was lucky enough to be among the general public who attended the dress rehearsals for the Eurovision in 1995. Cyprus were incredible live, and along with Denmark and Sweden that year were my top three. I was so lucky to see them all in person do their thing on stage.

i adore the production of this song so much, seriously it's so tense and never lets go (like a precursor to serbia and montenegro 2005 but in my humble opinion miles better). alex's voice was crystal clear too and time after time gives me chills.
but even after this masterpiece of a song competed, how in the fuck did cyprus fail to win at least ONCE in the 90s? evridiki, hara and andreas, and alex are among my favoruite eurovision people ever!

Hey!That's what I thought too. :-D It would suit to Hercules since he speaks about Greeks! :-)
Fun fact: He dubbed a lot of Disney songs, including those in Tarzan, A Goofy Movie, Emperor's New Groove, Lion King 2 and Brother Bear.
He and one of the backing singers (who sang at ESC again in 2000) dubbed lots of disney films.
We had music before Disney...music is a greek word from mousiki....

and he also served as the backing vocalist of Sakis Rouvas in 2009 for Greece too

Θυμαμαι οταν πρωτοακουσα αυτο το τραγουδι, ποσο ανατριχιασα με τους στιχους και ποσο μου αρεσε η μελωδια. Παντα θεωρω οτι αυτο ειναι απο τα καλυτερα τραγουδια που εχω ακουσει σε ολοκληρη την Eurovision. Θερμους χαιρετισμους απο την αλλη Μεγαλονησο, την Κρητη.

Ποπο είναι σαν να ακούω τραγούδι της Disney. Τόσο καλά δουλεμενο, με νόημα στους στίχους και εκπληκτικη ερμηνεία από τον Άλεξ Παναγή που έχει σημαδέψει με την φωνή του τα παιδικά μου χρόνια. Τι τρομερός καλλιτέχνης με όλη την σημασία της έννοιας.

1995 ESC was imo one of the best in history, so many brilliant entries Norway, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Sweden, France, Croatia
I'm always saying this. After 95 I quit watching ESC because the best has already happened and could not be topped .. I kept on watching this contest on VHS for years because I was totally in love with this song but also the ones you listed were incredible. Even Slovenia (my country) - Darja Švajger did great too. Turkey too. It was the hardest year to compete.

I really miss these times when the countries in Eurovision would sing in their native language. The greek language is such a beautiful and powerful language. I really miss the 90´s ❤

@@franckparra4621 Vous avez tout à fait raison ; en outre, l'anglais, dans lequel ces chansons minables sont interprétées, est souvent mauvais et surtout mal prononcé. C'en est risible.
@@Botafogoplayground For some years in the 70s they could sing in English as well, but then they went back to the native language rule. Remember both Sweden and The Netherlands won with a song in English and in 1976 there were songs in English as well.
This song is perfect! Wonderful composition and that singer is a star! Does he still sing..? What a performer! He brings the stage alive!
Nowadays he works mainly as a vocal coach for various artists. In the 2019 edition of the Contest he was the vocal director for Sergey Lazarev.

This is Eurovision Song Contest for me - this is what I love
Both the Greek and Cypriot entries were laced with a lot of Greek pride. Therefore it's somewhat ironic that Greece only gave Cyprus 8 points.
a lot is to do with the Turkish invasion but nothing is being said clearly. Nothing to do with actually killing anyone, just for the human psyche to find the power to carry on... Greece never harmed anyone following its empire ages ago. Even the Romans adopted the 12-gods system when they enslaved them. Its not about being proud to be Greek, the human values embedded in their philosophy are now the basis of existence for humans in general (along with Hindi culture).

For those who comment Greece giving 12 points to Cyprus and vice versa, guys, we are brothers and sisters. We are not just friends. In this Cyprus's song, the lyrics say it clearly: "I am the Greek who fights". Please make peace with our points, we are one nation. It cannot be done other way. Sorry.

Το 1995 υπηρετούσα στην ΕΛΔΥΚ... Το άκουσα μέσα στο στρατόπεδο για πρώτη φορά και η μελωδία δεν ξεχάστηκε από τότε. Πάντα θα μου θυμίζει τον έναν χρόνο που έζησα στην Κύπρο!
