  • The working relationship between Arrow and Blackpool Pleasure Beach was the perfect marriage, it started in 1960 and lasted through to the 1990's with both companies working together on several occasions. In this video, we take a look at the history of Arrow Dynamics at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and also, where Walt Disney fits into the working relationship too.

Their coasters may be seen as rough and uncomfortable now but they completely changed the roller coaster industry, along with Schwarzkopf

HR Truth be told, I don’t mind how most of the Arrow rides I’ve done “ride”. The Mine Train at Six Flags Great Adventure comes to mind as unpleasant but largely because of how tight the trains are (the actual trains, not restraint), Cedar Creek Mine Ride would be fine if the lap bar system was modernised and Steeplechase is just rough. The rest I’ve done, no problems. I love what Arrow did for BPB and the industry.

In a way, Arrow never really died. The company itself may be gone, but many of the best staff continue to work to this day. RMC has Alan Schilke, arrow's former lead engineer, for example. I know you know this but a lot of people don't seem to be aware of this. I personally think RMC's work today is a good idea of the kind of things Arrow would be working on today if they still existed. I also personally think X/X2 is really underrated. That coaster may have been the one that bankrupted them, but it's by far the best "4D" coaster IMO. The spin is controlled by the track, allowing a really awesome experience. The free-spinning "4D" coasters are not the same, I guess you do get a "different experience every time" but I think Arrow was really onto something with X.

Enjoyable and informative mini doc, thanks for posting. I miss the Mine Train (it was my favourite ride.) I also miss the Log Flume. Question for you (and yes it's a fantasy question in the current climate I grant you!) would you be happy enough to see Steeplechase go to make way for another coaster? Or do you think its history and uniqueness should in a sense give it protected status within the park?

    • @yourexperienceguide

Sincerely Insincere Thank you, I’m all for Steeplechase going. It has poor capacity, it’s not very well liked (this was evident on BPB Facebook two weeks back) and the space allows for plenty of creativity.

My new coaster design, The stats:
    300-375 ft high
3 inversions ( massive vertical loop and double corkscrew)
Being green ( although its an awful colour choice i love green)
    AND ALSO HAVING LAP BARS

Hey guys great video as usual. Just wanted to ask if you remember a bar on the pleasure beach I think it was called the old Mill ( it had old cotton mill spindles and mechanisms above in the ceiling ) it was close to the Chinese maze and the space invader ride? Just wanted to know if any of you remembered the stage in the bar and in the 90s had a robotic gorilla playing piano I think every half hour just above the bar area. Thanks ✌🌸

No way, I only watched the hour & half documentary on Arrow 2 days ago & had no idea until watching it that they did The Big One, how did I not know this. Great to see what else they did at BPP. I've always wanted to know more about them due to knowing it was their groundbreaking Corkscrew at Knotts Berry & Busch Gdns that served as the prototypes for Vekoma's at Alton. If it wasn't for Arrow, we may not have coasters as we do & I falsely credited a lot of that to Vekoma, as I didn't know any different. I also didn't know Vekoma did them over, after Arrow had used Vekoma as a European partner, only for Vekoma to ditch them & go into competition against them with the very track Arrow had showed them to build. Little did I know Arrow rose again & carried on creating some of the most amazing & innovative coasters seen until their demise around 2000, unable to support their own development costs of a new ride & competing with the dual threat of Intamin & B&M.
