Very detailed and informative... I'll probably go with the Zoleo because you can reduce the standby monthly cost to less than A$10 when no t required. As a favour...can you please delete the distracting background music track... it detracts from you otherwise very good presentation! cheers

Yeah I uploaded the 6 times. Each time the sound volumes were out of wack. I gave up in the end.

Love the Aussie gaucherie. And thorough subject matter coverage. Hate the unnecessary music.

Great video, but I reckon the sub prices may have changed, cheapest useful per month annual plans now Zoleo AU$32(US$21), Garmin AU$40(US$26)('safety' plan is useless, basically is using device as a PLB), SpotX US$15(AU$23). Garmins plan is a joke though it might be hamstrung by Iridium. SpotX isn't too bad but is charged in US$ and the AU$ is tanking right now but is still heaps cheaper per month than the other two. Irritatingly SpotX basic plan is 10 minute tracking but Gen 4 is 5 minute on same plan price, if you want 5 minute on the SpotX then the plan is up there with Garmin's price and the basic plan has some 24hr reset thing. Personally for comms I have a Thuraya satphone at $16.50 a month, tons more useful in an emergency but no tracking.

Zoleo also allows you to keep a constant phone number tied to the device - never changes. Might be the only option that offers that.

shocking how expensive the inreach mini 2 is. especially compared to other Garmin products. for example, a fish locator has a full color touch screen, detailed maps, GPS, as well as sonar, a transducer, and very detailed menus and features. A locator such as the Striker 4 has all of those feature and is only about $150. By comparison, and inreach mini has way way less to it than that, and shouldn't cost more than $100. Instead, it sells for $300-400 and on top of that you have to pay monthly for it. I understand the subscription fees, but the base unit is extremely expensive for what Garmin sells in comparison, when you look at the piece of hardware and how it lacks so much compared to other Garmin products.

They are expensive, but not as much as a funeral.
The tracking and check-in are a bit of a gimmick in my opinion, but the two way messenger to get non emergency help is a brilliant idea. As is being able to text respond to the search and rescue team

I get the impression your prices are in Australia dollars. You might make that clear. For those of us in the U.S. it creates an unfair sticker shock.
