This car is what I think of when people say Honda. As an older guy I always liked the sleeper/modest looking cars. This here is perfect imho!! You guys nailed it.
Hit the thumbs up if you want the KONIG ULTRAGRAMS on the Civic
This is the way.
I have Konig Dekagrams on my civic, so I support this message 😂
Use the heliograms
I want to see you put Apex wheels on everything since somebody said they were played out with the e92 m3 build.
Definitely the Heliograms! 👍🏻
"Twenty minutes later"
"I'm about to lose it here"
Impeccable comedic timing, genuinely had me rolling
Pro tip for the stuck race as an ASE master tech. Using a cutoff wheel at a 45 degree angle put a cut in the race without cutting all the way through. Then grab yourself a chisel and hammer and hammer the chisel into the groove you cut. Because the race is hardened it will crack after a few blows with the hammer and will easily slide off the spindle
I just said the same thing. It's surprising how easy it cracks through with a few solid hits.
And wear gloves when hitting! got metal in my hand a few times from the bearing shards
You can also score it and run a bead the other side, as weld cools it shrinks and cut the race
You want that 40/40 prop valve. The 30/30 will lock up the rear too easily, really bad news if going hard on the brakes. It's extra bad if you're hard braking in a turn. Or even just regular braking in the wet or snow, the back end will want to come around.
Never had that issue.
@@MyWolffy when you encounter it you’ll never forget. You’d never notice it Sunday driving in the dry. Brake bias is a real thing.
The only difference between all these prop valves is the main spring. I just went through the same thing buying used 4040 prop valves on eBay that were leaking. I bought a 3030, swapped in the 4040 main spring and it’s all good now.
I have to say I really like the ultragrams!
Common practice at my shop if a race is stuck, I use an angle grinder and cut a slit in the race. One hit from a hammer and chisel in the slit and the race will generally crack into two pieces. You have to be careful to not cut too deep and always wear eye protection. Really the same concept you’re doing with the air hammer but the cut in the race is used as a guide so you don’t slip.
Those Ultragrams look legendary on that car. It takes my vote 110%
That tool works on VTEC B series, on the non VTEC B motors you have to do the wrench and screwdriver combo move.
Voted for the Heliograms but wouldn't be sad to see the Ultragrams on this thing.
I am determined to buy a set of Heliograms one day❤ ❤❤❤
Bench bleeding is a super pro tip! Had issues when installing the clutch master on my dc5 and couldn’t get all the air out. After bench bleeding it made the process million times easier!
What we used to do when I worked at Honda, was use a grinder to cut a notch in the wheel bearing race. Then use a chisel to crack the race. It would slide right off after that.
Heliograms for sure !!
Konig heliograms FTW!
Klean street is always the best Honda hookup 🤙
Ultragrams are looking good on this car. They get my vote!
I really like the ultra grams I think they really bring the car out you guys have really pulled out one of the best eg6 I've ever seen
damn this thing is turning into the perfect little street nugget!
Def a vote for the Heliograms from me. Split 5-spoke is classic.
I appreciate including bits like the struggle with the proportioning valve, because working on real cars, especially old cars, are all about these struggles (components rusted or seized, or just not easily serviceable on the car), not just an engine build on a nice clean bench.
Holy hell...those Ultragrams are making me consider selling my 3spokes
I too also had 3 40/40 prop valves leak on me. It's such a pain. I despise them! So I totally understand why you gave up lol
The whole break situation was hilarious, best auto channel on TH-cam.
Ultrgram wheels look awesome
i freaking love older civic builds. Gives me hope for buying up an older civic one day.
Man it’s crazy how much I love Honda’s !
The Norseman returns!!!!! 😂
These build videos are amazing guys!! Really enjoy your channel. Very informative. Looking forward to future videos!!
Thank you guys for all you do.
The Ultragrams is my vote for the eg.
Keep up the work and God bless.
Jesus has risen, happy Easter!
Speed Academy's builds are the best!
Love the clean understated performance look of this EG build - great street build.
This project is getting together nicely. As someone said before me: this is the true Honda picture in my head.
Just binged both the hatchies to catch up, man I love when you guys show honda love. would love another update video on the k swapped s14, I know you guys mentioned it recently in an update vid but I'd love to see it clash with these two legends on track!
can't wait to see this one fully built!
Love the build as usual! Thank You!
"Tomorrow" 😂😂😂 I felt this. Heliograms...split five spoke all day.
PT Pumpin that brake pedal Hard!! 😂 Full power stance humpin that F’in pedal 😂🤣
Love you guys! From Seattle 🤙🏼
Really loving the build
Phenomenal build, super clean street machine.. ultragrams all the way btw !!
I'm always stoked on speed academy 's builds. It would be cool to see you guys step out from the normal wheel selection and go with something different (ie flexus wheels).
Great video! Love the rear brake conversion and would like the double blade 5 star wheels! Keep up the great videos
I love this EG so much.
Working 40/40 prop valves are RARE! I found 2 used and both failed. Attempted a rebuild on both using new seals, both still leaked. I kept the OE prop and it brakes still felt amazing. 🤷🏽♂️
Another great build, car looks amazing.
Agreed
Your build is amazing and oem+ thank you for all the details
I have hated ur channel since u have had less track coverage like ur older content
But both these Civics and the track time coming has braught me back
Love the ASMR style install clips!
Both wheels look perfect for that car, but my vote is for the dual spoke design. Overall great project so far.
That EF IN the background 🔥
22:32 the "insanity has been lost" laughter. Felt that
great choice of medallion exhaust!!
Great video!
Loving the series. For wheels Ultragrams hands down!
Awesome video fellas.... My vote is for the split 5 spoke!
One of those Honda’s needs an all wheel drive build on this channel.
I don't think this is a drag racing channel
Serious question: are the awd conversions for these only beneficial for launches? Is the heavily fwd biased awd system from the wagovan and CRV not helpful in corners?
@@chaseteter It might help on a loose surface but an AWD converted Civic won't handle like an Evo or anything. I honestly think a well-sorted FWD Civic could turn a faster lap time at most tracks, assuming it isn't hugely struggling to put its power down.
For setting valve lash, i just slip it whatever gauge feeler I want lash set at, adjust the rocker, and make sure i have the correct resistance on the feeler. Its usually a one and done deal
Last time I was this early, I was still a twinkle in my Dad's eye.
OG civic I miss these
W episode build is hella clean
Both those wheel sets are nice. Either one works fine
Back in 2001 i think, sport compact car magazine did an EG build that really reminds me of how this one is coming out. Beautiful build very understated but just right. 👌
The hypergrams are the way to go!
the only thing i love is tje drum to disc conversion thay set the tone. cant wait to do that to my mirage (lancer coupe) we call it in australia.
Dyno video next I hope!?? But glad to see this build come together!
Heliogram for sure. Great video I really hope you're going to do something really unique with the front bumper =). Looking forward to the next episodes. Oh... and "On it's own accord" - Honda pun?
Repping the Klean Street hoodie!
My vote is for the Heliograms
I change my mind, once you rolled the car back and forth in shop, I like the ultragrams.
Loving petes rage lol
You can also score the inner bearing race with a small cut-off wheel on a Dremel and then hit that score mark with a cold chisel and it will crack through and slide right off.
An angle grinder works too. Just have to be mindful of how quick you cut.
The cut and hammer method works everytime.
Great video as usual! I watch y’all every Saturday just like I watched horsepower tv growing up lol But they only did one JDM that I can remember. Much prefer all the Honda and JDM goodness
Looks to me like the separate wrench and flat head is much easier to use on those non-VTEC heads. The special tool is only needed on VTEC heads where you can’t get a wrench on the adjuster lock nuts. I bought a set from Harbor Freight’s website way back in 2001, and still use them to this day.
The Work license plate frame but Konig wheels is a vibe.
😂 A very entertaining and real world how it actually is when you work on your car episode!
It's nice to see that. We're not the only ones that go through silly Things that take longer than they should when you're working on a car 😂
Another great video guys, love the SpongeBob cameos.
Heliograms
DP jokes are way too smooth. Litteral certified stud
22:11 You can use the M seal. It will be fine
Definitely the ultragrams hands down
I’ve had good luck in the past with pinching the ball race itself on an inner bearing flange with the bearing separator and pulling it off that way. No heat or chisel needed.
Heliogram FTW!
Saturday Morning Upload!!
that grimsmo norseman tho👀
👍 ultragrams for sure
Thank god you replaced those rear old style blox toe arms the bushing where crap new.
DP was right with the Bluepoint tool, I have the same one and for some reason Honda has 10mm and 12mm rocker arm jam nuts, I think it just depends on the engine. My B16 is 10mm, maybe depends on the vtec option as well? No clue. Love the build, wish I could afford a clean EG, just impossible to find in ND, at least a clean one.
Had you used an acetylene torch to get the race red hot it would have expanded enough to get it off, and the ultragram definitely suits the eg better!
Ultragrams are one of my favorite wheels and would be a go-to on almost any car. Having said that..... I think the heliograms look a little better for this application and I am surprising myself by admitting it. Take your engagement.
I really enjoy this channel... i feel the brake valve thing ... i have to do the same job and i don't wanna!!!😢
5 spoke loud and clear
Would’ve love to see you make that fan relay
Pulling out the Norseman🇨🇦
Ultra grams looking nice.
I like both set of wheels. My preference would probably be the 5 spoke
7:50 you mentioned that you used a Mini Cooper S rotor. It's actually the mini "non" Type S rotor that fits that setup.
Should get a set of dekagrams 😍
If that was my car, I would leave it 100% bone stock on cosmetics other than fresh and new 5 spoke Konigs! I'm glad Pete got that braking system swapped out! I know how many F-bombs can be dropped from parts not wanting to come out like that lol... Can't wait for next vid guys 🤝
The Heliograms look the best imo! Great wheel either way but Heliograms look a bit more modern, in a good way! OEM+!
Integra type r brakes 280/260mm always use a 1inch master cylinder. 15/16" is used on the ek4 or eg6 260/240 brakes .
If you can get a set, I think you should run Group B Unlimited NC-01's.
Peter’s Canadian accent gets thicker the more frustrated he gets 😂
Don’t feel bad though. I’ve fought that exact same battle years ago. It’s not easy. I ended up yanking the intake manifold to make some working room.
