Melissa check with your local Animal shelters and wild life Rehabilitatiors and give them the blankets and old towels. You would be surprised at all the things they could use. ...I love love love your videos!
Also most cities have recycling/repurpose places that will take fabric/clothes in any condition because they just chop it up and turn it into rags for trades people. It's usually what happens to unsold thrift stuff actually. But ya usually animal shelters are in need of linens (towels, flat sheets and blankets are the main things) but any clothes that cant be salvaged can also be donated to be turned into rags.
I am retired now but worked for Public Health. We has a top researcher from the U of Minnesota talk to our staff about bed bugs. You can Goggle them and find a lot of info. With what you do, you should definitely read about them. You can wash quilts etc. but that doesn’t kill them. It’s the heat in the dryer that does. If I came across in, the item or items would directly into the garbage. When I get home, I’d take my clothes off in my garage and toss them or put them directly in the washer. Then I’d head for the shower. Them eggs are very sticky and they stick to your clothes and you can’t even see them. It can cost thousands to get them out of your house. We had staff who had to throw away sofas, mattresses, etc. Be careful kiddo. Even when it comes in the mail. You shouldn’t wear black or sit on the floor. Please read about them. Once you have them it’s to late. Very very difficult to get rid of. Exterminator try but they really can’t get rid of them either. The chemical used to get rid of them was outlawed years ago.
Melissa any type on material or cloth items will have bedbugs in it if they are present...it is not only a bedding problem but a whole house problem.,they will live behind your door framing and baseboards ..when the exterminate for them the tent the whole house and bring it to an unbelievable high heat to kill the bugs off.....also any box you buy off Poshmark could carry them

Yes you are so right. When I was 19 I rented my first place and it had bedbugs when I moved in. I had no idea about bedbugs at first. I had bites covering my whole body but had no idea what was doing it. I ended up finding one and figuring out what it was. We ended up moving asap and getting rid of almost everything we owned. I was devastated and also traumatized by that. Now when I buy anything I'm super careful about it. I would never want to deal with that again.
I think alot of us had the same idea. Buying these storage units you just never know. As she was saying that she doesn't mess with bedding those angel wings can harbor bedbugs just as easily with anything in that unit. I never had bedbugs thank heavens but from I understand they are hard to get rid of. Not sure how anyone gets rid of them. Just remember bedbugs do not care where they live. One thing you could do is take all the stuff to a laundromat and wash it before you even think about taking it into your house. There are chemicals you can get and use that will help. Plus, the laundromat will have bigger sized washers if you do ever want to wash any of the bedding. Yes, you will be spending some money, but better to be safe. ☺️

Not just the comforter can have bedbugs, the clothes to! Just wash affected bedding and clothing on a hot wash (60C) and tumble dry on a hot setting for at least 30 minutes. put affected clothing and bedding in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer for 3 or 4 days.

Melissa I am a former Property manager (apartments) unfortunately I have had some run in with bed bugs with my poor tenants. I hate to tell you that those horrible bugs get into every thing. They may start out in a bed or clothing ( They are wonderful hitch hikers) but also in furniture, including wood, appliances nothing is safe from those evil booger’s! They like to live around their food source and hide in what ever is near like clothing , mattress, bedding , paper items. They can live for a long time without food, warmth. They are hard to get rid of too. Ewww I feel itchy just talking about it. Sorry to tell you if those blankets had a bed bug so would everything else in storage with them and possibly the neighbors lockers too. love your vids❤
I would always bring plastic bags with me garbage bags and take things that you want to keep straight to the laundromat before ever bringing it into your home.

Not tiny but maybe along the size of what you just cleaned out. Might help you keep your sanity also without the stuff in your house. I hate to see you pass up good stuff due to the lack of space. @BevanMudge I actually live in Canada Nova Scotia to be exact which is further North than the States but we get similar weather we have a n arctic air mass coming which is going to put us in the negative around -25 Celcius...I worry about our homeless people because our shelters are only open at night...I am on a fixed income and can't help....HUGS

Maybe you can take the blankets to the laundromat. Wash everything on hot. The dryers there are super hot, so maybe some of the stains will come out and the "bed bugs" will be killed. Then you won't feel so bad about donating stuff.

These $10 storage units be having hidden treasures a lot of the times! My very first $10 storage unit I got (which I forgot to record) had a WiiU plus the controllers. I think you did good with this one. Although it did have a lot of stained clothes 😬 Washing all that can get tiring.
Sadly there has been a rise in bed bugs again, good news is there is safe bed bugs spray made from plant extract and powders. I also learn beg bugs don't like the smell of cedar and clove, so if you plan to pay for an abandoned storage make some bed bug repellent that is safe to wear for protection.
I hate to tell you Melissa but bed bugs can be in anything not just bedding. Clothes, picture frames, luggage. I have a BIG slightly irrational fear of them and read a lot about them so I could check all hotel rooms we stay in before we unpack our bags.
Hi Melissa, nice haul for ten bucks! I had to deal with the bed bug issue a few years ago due to a neighbor letting homeless people crash at his place upstairs with all their stuff. Anyway, take anything you plan to keep or sell or donate to the laundromat and wash them then set dryer on highest heat and dry for a full hour to kill them.
TESTIFY!! We had them twice, once when we let my ex husbands sketchy cousin stay with us for a while and once when a neighbor's apartment was fumigated after they moved out and they migrated to us! It was years ago and I still get pissed when I think about all the time, money and effort it took to get rid of them!

Bed bugs can live up to 2 years without feeding and just laying hibernation form, and they can also live in things like picture frames.

Maybe you can take the blankets to the laundromat. Wash everything on hot. The dryers there are super hot, so maybe some of the stains will come out and the "bed bugs" will be killed. Then you won't feel so bad about donating stuff.

These $10 storage units be having hidden treasures a lot of the times! My very first $10 storage unit I got (which I forgot to record) had a WiiU plus the controllers. I think you did good with this one. Although it did have a lot of stained clothes 😬 Washing all that can get tiring.

Sadly there has been a rise in bed bugs again, good news is there is safe bed bugs spray made from plant extract and powders. I also learn beg bugs don't like the smell of cedar and clove, so if you plan to pay for an abandoned storage make some bed bug repellent that is safe to wear for protection.
That flat black thing with the power cord is a bottom heater for a reptile tank I just sold one last flea market for $7.00
I hate to tell you Melissa but bed bugs can be in anything not just bedding. Clothes, picture frames, luggage. I have a BIG slightly irrational fear of them and read a lot about them so I could check all hotel rooms we stay in before we unpack our bags.

Hi Melissa, nice haul for ten bucks! I had to deal with the bed bug issue a few years ago due to a neighbor letting homeless people crash at his place upstairs with all their stuff. Anyway, take anything you plan to keep or sell or donate to the laundromat and wash them then set dryer on highest heat and dry for a full hour to kill them.
As someone who has had to deal with the nightmare of bedbugs in the past. . .I do NOT blame anyone for being overly cautious with bedding like that!
TESTIFY!! We had them twice, once when we let my ex husbands sketchy cousin stay with us for a while and once when a neighbor's apartment was fumigated after they moved out and they migrated to us! It was years ago and I still get pissed when I think about all the time, money and effort it took to get rid of them!
