  • Jared Greenwood talking a whole lot about wood in this video brought to you by The Clay Lab. Jared, a seasoned shooter who has learned from one of the best custom stock makers in the world, Jim Greenwood, guides you through the process of selecting the ideal wood for your shotgun stock. This while ensuring it not only meets your practical needs but also resonates with your personal style.
In this comprehensive discussion, Jared explores the merits of various wood types commonly used in custom stock crafting, such as English walnut, Turkish walnut, and maple. Each wood type carries its own unique characteristics, from the rich warmth of English walnut to the exotic allure of Turkish walnut and the timeless elegance of maple. By understanding the qualities of each wood type, you can make an informed decision that aligns with your preferences and shooting style.
But the considerations don't stop there. Jared also delves into the details of wood grain patterns, highlighting distinctive features like fiddleback and quilt. These intricate patterns not only add visual interest to your stock but also reflect the natural beauty of the wood itself. Whether you prefer a simple and understated look or crave something more extravagant, Jared provides valuable insights to help you find the perfect match.
At the core of Jared's advice is a simple yet profound principle: your custom shotgun stock should bring you joy and satisfaction every time you pick up your shotgun. Whether you gravitate towards dark, light, plain, or intricately detailed wood, the ultimate goal is to find a stock that speaks to you and enhances your shooting experience.
Behind every exceptional custom stock lies a skilled craftsmanship of artisans like Jim Greenwood of Greenwood Custom Stocks. With a reputation for excellence, Jim consistently delivers masterpieces that exceed expectations and elevate the shooting experience for enthusiasts around the world.

Wish I had more time to put into the filming as well, we did that video on the fly just to get the information out there as we both had events to get to.

An Interesting Question for you. As someone from Australia who does a lot of sporting shooting what state in the United States would be best to visit for shooting? for like a top 3. Loves the videos guys keep them coming!

Thank you for being a subscriber! My top 3 would be GA, SC, and probably FL. Some of the best shooters are out of those states and I think the clubs, target setters, people out of those states through the best overall events.

It really is all a part of the journey and there is so much wood to choose from at times. Many may have the same receiver as you but the wood is like a finger print you'll notice belongs just to you.
