  • Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.~ John Muir ~ Naturalist

My brother would take a 3 week sabbatical to Colorado mountains every year to get closer in his walk with God. He would come home and be refreshed.

I am finally going to visit the beautiful state of Colorado - its been my dream as long as I can remember. I am 55 years old...raised 3 amazing children as a single mom...spent many many years broke and struggling...now they are grown....all graduated college...my eldest daughter moved to Denver 2 years ago and I was supposed to visit her in May for my birthday but it was cancelled due to the wonderful VIRUS....now...in 2 weeks I am finally getting to make my trip...I am so overwhelmed with emotion and excitement....I have listened to this song 25 times in the last week....and I cry every time. Thank you John...xoxo

Hope you enjoyed your visit to Colorado. I was fortunate to live there for a couple years in the early 1980s. I loved everything about, it, skiing hiking and anything outdoors. Unfortunately I never made it back. I’m much older now, but the memories I have of that time are still crystal clear. I loved it there.

"He was born in the summer of his 27th year, coming home to a place he'd never been before." I identify so much with that line. I feel born again every time I see a beautiful place for the first time. I remember driving up to Utah. Leaving Cedar City, the cheap rental car struggled on the mountain road with the engine growling noisily. I pulled off at a scenic turnout, shut off the engine and stepped out into the most profound silence I have ever experienced. Not a manmade sound to be heard or sight to be seen. I broke down and cried by the side of the road.

The very first lyric gets me. "He was born in the summer of his 27th year, coming home to a place he's never been before." It clearly demonstrates how much John Denver loved Colorado and felt living there was his life calling. So beautiful

@Just Me I know. Same here, I always caught that reference, that it was to someone who 'came home' to a place, for the first time, that felt like his natural home. It was only when I was teaching in a university here in Khon Kaen (Thailand) some years ago, that I learned that JD had actually been born in New Mexico, and that Colorado was his 'adopted' home.

I grew up in Nebraska on a family farm and I fortunately had older sisters who exposed me to John Denver and I fell in love with him because of his love for the earth.
I moved to Colorado after I graduated college in 1983 and have felt like I was home.
This beautiful wonderful state welcomed me on and I have taken it for granted.
I wake up and do my morning chores and when I see the mountains in the mornings I am thank full to live on beautiful state where I have been fortunate to have seen an eagle fly

I'm living that life he sings about. Fell in LOVE with the Rockies over 30 years ago. Back in 2015, I took a tremendous leap of faith and moved to be near the mountains (going on 9 years now) with just one suitcase and $16. I'm still standing here. Loving every minute of it. NEVER been happier. God put me here for a good reason. I met my husband of 7 years shortly after arriving. God had plans that I was unaware of at the time. Let God guide you to your place of JOY no matter where he happens to plant you.

My moms favorite song ... I scattered her ashes at the summit of Pikes Peak as I had always promised ... She was born and raised there and then spent over 40 years in Florida with my dad and as he promised her when they retired he took her home in July 2003 but sadly she died from malpractice in November 2004 ... I thank God every single day for letting my mom live long enough to go home ... She hated Florida ... My mom was only 60 when God called her Home .... I miss you everyday mom but I carry you in my heart FOREVER!!!! You were truly the BEST!

My connection to this song is deep. My best friend and I used to take road trips listening to this song as we went on our adventures. The crazy thing is when John Denver says, "they say he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun and he lost a friend but kept the memory. Now he walks in quite solitude the forest and the stream seeking grace in every step he take". Well that was me when I went on our Colorado trip. See the past year has been really hard, even when I take the trips we planned. I know he's there with me even if he's not physically here anymore. He took his own life on May 1st 2019 and left me in my lonesome to take our trips. I bring my dog with me but he was the only best friend I had. So this song always reminds me of him and I in the car on a road trip, blasting John Denver with the windows down on some Arkansas back road trying to find our way.

The late John Denver is my most favorite singer of all time for me. Rocky Mountain High is my favorite John Denver song and I have 3 of his Christmas albums which are the best Christmas albums. I have been in 6 of the 8 Rocky Mountain region states and Colorado is my most favorite one of the Rocky Mountain region states I have been in. Nearly everyone of my late mothers side of my family lives in Colorado. I wanted to attend the University of Colorado from 1972 to 1976.

Grew up in north Denver suburbs back in the 60s and 70s. The photos showing the Colorado landscapes were an almost everyday sort of thing. We were up in the "hills" most every weekend and I guess we took it all for granted. Growing up in Colorado we convinced ourselves that life was better or more exciting or more glamorous somewhere else, California or New York or Dallas. 40+ years later I would give almost anything to be that "bored" again. I love this John Denver song, but it always reminds me of the things I have lost moving away from Colorado.

I lived in Colorado for 40 years. I came to NM for a few months thinking I’d go home afterward. But the prices changed! The people changed. I can’t afford to live there now. My kids are being raised in the desert. Summers are too hot to play outside so a lot of kids play video games during summer vacation. I hear this song and a million memories fill my head. I took for granted something as simple as green grass or a rainstorm. Or a snowy day with hot chocolate. If it rains here it’s like a tiny 3 minute sprinkle and my boys RUN to the window! If you’re in Colorado you’re truly surrounded by heaven. Look around a little more. :) you’re so blessed.

I loved camping as a boy scout back in the 70s. Chicago Area Council had a boy scout camp scout Owasippe Scout Reservation up in Michigan about six hours away by car and bus. The summers of 1975, 76 and 77 I went up there for a week. It was so much fun camping and hiking and sleeping in the outdoor clean fresh air. There's nothing like it. This song reminds me of those wonderful times even though it was Michigan instead of Colorado where I found so much peace and happiness.

Lone Wolf you're absolutely correct. Music does bring people together. There's no right or wrong in it. It just makes us feel good. There's no politics, there's no religion, there's no I am right and you are wrong, just a mutual love and admiration for whatever type music that we are listening to.

Everything about this song is legendary in my life, I felt, my whole life, that John was authoring my story. I came home at 27, started a new life, found God, looked inward... all of it, like every word describes my story - its a universal truth and yet its true for me so its personal. I had a moment in Salt Lake when I say John at a hotel. An elevator door opened there he was, standing in front of me, like an angel, long wavy brown hair, glasses, brown leather jacket on, I was shocked and honored and grateful for this timeless moment. May your spirit soar and guide me like the eagle, flying closest to the Great Spirit - I love you John, like a grandfather guiding me home. thank you

John Denver knew a certain serenity that most of us can only envy. He put it in his music for us all to enjoy. It's a shame he was taken from us so young. He would be a great influence on music today.

Been to Colorado twice; once after travelling in the best of times; another during the worst. The latter brought a peace which folks often scoff at, but it does exist. I'm in New Jersey now, but it's past time I see those rocky mountains again. 🙂

I loved living in Colorado Springs in the early 70's. It was so awesome to wake up and walk out the door and see Pikes Peak. I had to shout as I have lived in Europe (Germany) since joining the army. John Denver's music always touched me growing up, and today I heard this great song on German radio, and I had to say something. I remember I cried when I heard that John had left us, and right now I have tears in my eyes just thinking back to the beautiful city that I grew up in. I am a 64 year old army veteran and I say, thank you John for your great music that I will never get tired of listening to.

when my husband and I were truck driving for FedEx, he would take either I-40 or else I-80 to avoid the mountains through Colorado, as one never knew when it would storm there on I-70. Yet on our last trip west, he said to me, "just for you, I will drive THROUGH those mountains so that you can see them!" and he did---and I will never forget the MAJESTY and beauty of what I saw!!! Thank you God, for that and for my wonderful guy who did that for me!

diane baum I used to be an owner operator for a small outfit in Al. I had put close to 3 million miles on my old 87 Freightshaker with an old school 425 Cat. When I got a load out to Utah from Charleston. I told my dispatcher that since I had a week to get there in my large car I was going to slow down enjoy the ride and have fun going thru 70. She told me to be safe and have fun. I did just that til I saw white smoke rolling when I was at the Rifle, Co Rest area. My poor girl was dying on me. As it turns out, my worst trip $$$ wise was my best trip every other way. I was towed to Grand Junction and while waiting for my truck, I got a ride to NM where I rode the steam train from Chama NM thru the mtn. passes and rode the bus back. I chartered a ride back to grand Junction by private plane and had a blast. I put another 250 thousand on that old Cat b4 I retired her. BEST BREAKDOWN EVER!!!!!!

diane baum Funny story driving from Buffalo, NY to California, we ran into a snow storm in the mountains. We thought people would think we brought the snow from Buffalo. Its crazy in Buffalo we get 10-12 feet every winter from Lake Erie. That's nothing compared to 1977 Blizzard we got 19 feet in that storm & City & Schools were closed for 3 weeks. People were afraid of Buffalo like people were afraid of the movie JAWS. Back then we only got vistors because Niagara Falls is close. Always WHITE XMAS IN BUFFALO
