    If people can travel between subdomains on your website, then it's critical to understand how Google Analytics tracks and reports on these user actions. Google Analytics will automatically track subdomains once you've added the Google Analytics tracking code, but what if you want to control how this works? You can use Google Tag Manager to control the 'cookie domain' for Google Analytics, or you can modify your Google Analytics tracking code. This lets you control how cookies are set on your top-domain and subdomains.

    Very helpful video, Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
    QUESTION: If using Google Tag Manager and the subdomain is being tracked through a separate UA property, what UA code is installed on the subdomain, that of the primary domain, or that of the separate subdomain property? I've installed the Subdomain UA code on the subdomain and I'm getting no data into analytics. Thanks again

      @@LovesData Quick question, with implementing the filter step in the last step of the video, in our referral exclusion list do we have to add the sub-domain as well? Or leave it as is with the default original domain? Thanks!

      @@ripseeze_the_second5590 yes, it should be the default URL of main domain

    If user visits the subdomain and fill the form there then how we can track that form fill as conversion in the google analytics as a goal?
    What we need to do for this goal tracking?

    Hi Benjamin. Thanks for the video. I would like to ask you one question, I hope you can help me. I have created two properties in GA to track my main domain and subdomain. Should I also have two different containers in GTM or just one to track these two properties? Regards.

    I'm a little confused in the Lookup table part. I declared my subdomain under the main domain in GA so they use the same UA property. This will mean the default value and the output in the lookup table will be the same. Is this correct? Also, I accessed the subdomain and checked the result in Google Analytics > Realtime > Overview. It fired. Then I access the main domain and checked again, it fired as well. I don't want the main domain to be recorded under the subdomain. I followed the filter setup, too. What am I missing?

    I'm really confused. Can someone please clear my doubt.
    Did you add the same GTM tracking code to the subdomains or is it automatically tracked with the tracking code on the root website?
    Do we need to create different containers for subdomains if we have to add the Gtm tracking on a subdomain.
    Do we have to set "cookiedomain" set to "auto" for all the containers of subdomains?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @ryguytrys
      @ryguytrys 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use the same container as the root and subdomains depending on your goals.
      If you have very different tagging requirements for the subdomain as compared to the root, it might be best to use separate containers. Using the same GA tracking code in both containers will mean that the data still flows into the same Google Analytics property.
      If you wanted the data from the subdomain and root to flow into different Google Analytics properties, you would have to use different tracking IDs for each.
