    My Heart is Broken. Robert and now Richard Sherman both passed. Every movie with their songs had me walking home from the theater singing every song. I will hold these two wonderfully talented men in my heart along with their songs. I feel Blessed to have shared their life's timeline. I am thankful for each note.

    This man was a big part of my life, so I started sobbing when I heard the news. An any time I hear his music I think of how much he impacted my life and my love for Walt Disney and the the Disney parks. Thank you Richard Sherman for your music.

    I come from a narcisistic family, I have no memories of happiness from my childhood and only in adulthood I realised the healing power of the Sherman Brothers' songs. Carousel of Progress gave me strengh and optimism to take control of my own life and find happiness. Winnie the Pooh song is my family's preferred lullaby. Thank you Sherman Brothers for giving us songs which inspired tenderness and joy.

    Not just Disney of course, but "Chitty", "Tom Sawyer", "The Slipper and the Rose" (perhaps their finest). As someone remarked below, the soundtrack of my childhood. So apt for me as well. May both these gentlemen enjoy their eternal reward and get on better up there than they did here.

    When I saw the notice I thought it was one of those sick jokes and then it was confimed by the news and the dam broke. For me he and his brother were Disney as much as Walt and Roy. I don't think i can watch Mary Poppins especially without sobbing.
    Thanks Robert and Richard for the memories. Rest in Love and Power and Peace.

    Unfortunately, the Sherman brothers didn't write "The Bare Necessities". It was written by Terry Gilkyson, who originally wrote songs for "The Jungle Book". Walt Disney thought most of the songs were too dark, and had most of Gilklyson's songs discarded. "The Bare Necessities" was the only song that survived after the Sherman brothers were brought in write lighter songs for the film.

      @@1cultural Two non-Sherman Brothers songs were included in *The Aristocats* (1970): Gilkyson's "Thomas O'Malley Cat" and "Ev'rybody Wants to Be a Cat" by Floyd Huddleston and Al.Rinker, while several.of the Shermans' songs written for the movie were not used. I hope that some of this lost material will be released eventually.

    A worthwhile subject for a youtube post would be to explore some of the less well remembered - but still damned catchy - Sherman Brothers songs. Like, "Makin' Memories", "On The Front Porch" (purportedly Richard Sherman's favorite of his own compositions ), and "West O' The Wide Missouri". Not to mention their scores for "A Symposium On Popular Songs" and the Broadway musical "Over Here!".

    Still images accompany "A Step In The Right Direction" as the song was cut from the film. Living in Los Angeles, I'm looking forward to at least one 60th anniversary screening of "Mary Poppins" that I expect will take place during 2024. (I might have hoped that Mr. Sherman would be in attendance. Alas ).

    Yet E. B. White hated The Sherman Brothers' songs in the 1973 animated adaptation of his book "Charlotte's Web", saying that he would rather have Mozart than the two.

      @datprawn4850 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@maggiemccauslin1084 It's more a generation thing, he was nearing death's door by the time The Sherman Brothers came onto the scene. E. B. White when he saw the 1973 adaptation of Charlotte's Web just thought having it a musical just doesn't fit the theme of his book. Then again, he was the same author who wrote that odd book Stuart Little. Not the movie, the book it's based on.
      As Abe Simpson said in The Simpsons - "I used to be with IT. But then they changed what IT was. Now what I'm with isn't IT, and what's IT seems weird and scary to me. It'll happen to you."
