Absolutely a collectible and even more so in the future. I have a 92 Trans Am in polo green. T-tops. Last year of this generation and built in the last month of production, June of 92. Bought it new. People just love it!

Pontiac made the best highway cars. I owned a 1995 Pontiac Bonniville with 3800 6 cylinder engine. Just beautiful body and rear spoiler.
Smooth suspension and comfortable interior.
Front wheel drive made it handle corners pretty good. I was passed twice in 10 years on a local mountain highway.
Plenty of torque. Passed everything on inclines.
Pontiac made a great handling car. Wish Buick got cut instead. Who needs a La Saber? I guess Shaquille?
My family bought a property this summer and one of these was parked in the back yard. The owner died and they let the car sit so they just gifted it to me.

Well short of the millions - your numbers are way off. You should probably do some research before making such embarrassing comments on the internet.

Those rims are awesome. My 1995 Bonniville hade similar gold color rims.
It’s a classic now. Perfect blend of performance and comfort. This red example is in excellent condition. You can’t beat the older paint. A magic carpet with 5.7 V8.
Love the GTA trans am I wanted my Dad to buy a GTA instead of the iroc but my Dad was always a chey fan so he purchased the Camaro
Hey, the 5.7 is way off from the 5.0 monte carlo, but it was throttle body injection. Firebirds like mine with the 5.0 TPI are almost exactly the same as the 5.7 only difference being the bore/stroke. Only way to tell is by finding the stamp on the block or the RPO code or vin. It's only a 10 hp difference but, the 5.7 made about 50 more lb ft of torque.
I had a 91 T/A 5.7 bright blue metallic. It was beautiful. I bought the car 1yr old for 11k. It did have 48k miles. It had the SLP chip. I put brand new good years on it and new struts and shocks, just to make sure it drove like new. Dynomax muffler and 3:73 ring and pinion and i was set. Oh, and had the trans rebuilt. That was about 1100. The car new was 20k. I remember the paint on the roof started to peel. It was fixed under warranty. I'm glad my state did not require front plates on the car. It did 14.4 in the quarter mile and I did hit 145mph on the freeways. At that speed the brakes didn't work to good. I can't believe the car came with drums on the back, and anti-lock brakes was not an option.
This model had 240hp and the previous generation had 235 or 245 in the 5.7. so not much difference at all. It was nice that they offered Ann option to go up to 290 with the SLP performance package.

I have always loved these cars. I had a 1987 red/tan back when I was 19 years old. I'm 45 now and I have another 1987 also red/tan..5.7 TPI auto. I'm restoring the car and just about done, just need to do the body and paint work. Car isn't bad just a little rust down by the ground effects and of course after 30+ years the paint is faded. I did the entire interior brand new, everything works....even the headlights pop up. LOL. New exhaust and headers, spotless under the hood, new period correct tires as well. I am thinking of selling it though, I just don't have much time for it. This video is making me not want to sell it now. All I need to do is get a nice paint job and it will look like this one.

start with the body,not the other stuff......do the bodywork,sanding etc yourself and get maaco to spray it

Had an auto 91 TA GTA that I just sold a few years ago with 55k miles. Black w/"beechwood"(tan) interior and was in mint condition. Miss it regularly but I always preferred this color combination. The only option this particular car is missing is the factory Delco C/D player with equalizer. It sounded great and looked much nicer in that dash.
I wonder what this car ended up selling for because it's as perfect as it gets.
If I did it over again I would get this color combo, t-tops, and the 5.0 manual(since they weren't available with the 5.7).

Not sure if you meant at the trunk. If that is what you were referring to, that wasn't the case for the remodel of 1991- 1992 GTAs. It only said "PONTIAC" on the taillights. None of the 91-92 models had the bird on the rear-end however the standard TransaAm models(non GTAs) had a "TransAm" decal on the right lower bumper while the GTA model did not.

I had a GTA with the Covette engine in it, so I couldnt get a sunroof. :\ It was sooo fast that I couldnt keep it long because I couldnt keep tires on it.
what's crazy is that they had manual transmission for vetts but not for the Trans Am? They could have just purchased a ZF like they did in the vette and put in in there. Manuals back then can handled that power just as well as automatics could. How did they built manuals back in the 60s when cars were putting out 3-500hp?? They couldn't find or built one in the 80's or 90s for the Camaro or Trans Am

Yeah but what didn't make sense was that Buick made the Grand National. I think Even if they gave it a manual the Vette still would be quicker because it's lightweight.
They didn't really think about that issue either. I mean eitherway Vette buyers back then especially were because they really loves them and obviously could afford them. Pontiac could have sold more of these cars I believe it they offered manual but that's history now right?! 😆
I have a 17k mile GTA from Deer Park Florida. Runs great. 2" thick paper work, even the hand written order form of the owner. Two problems Florida sun killed the spoilers front & rear. And secondly, the owner hit the side mirrors, both driver & passenger door damage. The drivers door has been poorly replaced without the transfer of the factory door ID tag. I know their are companies that duplicate them, but typically require pictures & part of the original. So I'm just going to refresh the whole GTA. Have the spoilers, paint & tools. Yep, I have the original floor mats & remote keyless remote. Plan to drive her to 34k miles.

GTA is one of my most favourite cars, I prefer the earlier trim with the different nose but it's a great fun car to own, not too difficult to make some decent power with them
so do I. the nose on this doesn't look as good as the previous generation.
actually 2035 gta's were made of the 1991 and yes 384 are marked to be in that color but there are only about 100 left due to the junk yards and totaled and such.
Will never be 73 and 74 SD 455 collectible, but you never see these. Teens got their hands on these and beat the crap out of them. GM paint was pretty bad then. If left outside, the clear coat was gone quickly. Smart owner who took care of it.
Yes you're right about that won't be as collectible to 73 and 74 s that's only because of 73 and 74 they're older. But one of these will absolutely destroy second gen in the corners. Team that with the right engine and in the straightaways also. All That Power from a carbureted lo tech big block will do you nothing if you can't get the power to the ground where talking stock now. Hell there are V 6 and four cylinders out there that'll blow the doors off of these vehicles now... but that's not really the point is it.

I’ve got a White 91 Trans Am GTA. Bought it a little over a year ago with 96k miles. It’s at about 111k now.
The red on this car though is beautiful.

1 of 384, love how he makes that known, I have a 92 Jamaican Yellow convertible Trans Am in my driveway that is even more rare. Slower than today's cars but more fun to drive than 75 percent of them!

This guy would lose his mind if he got a formula 350.
In 1989 Chevrolet had a manual transmission which was placed behind the same engine as in the GTA and even the 375HP and 405HP LT5 engine so I believe the decision why they did not offer a manual transmission was more Corporate than not having a one that could handle the power. That same manual transmission ended up appearing in the next gen Trans Am and Camaro Z28 starting in 1993.
The T-5 transmission was available in the camaro/firebird with the 305 engine option but not mated to the 350. Much of the reasoning is because the the torque curve was too great for the T-5 to handle therefore the 4L60E was the standard option for the 350. However, on the contrary the ZF-6 speed transmission was utilized on the Corvette with the 350. The stronger ZF unit was more Robust and could take the torque beating. Now in a sense, you may wonder as to why the ZF wasn't used with Camaro/firebird too? Well alot has to do with cost and modifying parts like the driveshaft to make it work wasn't cost effective at the time. The ZF isn't a cheap transmission and since it's a german built unit the replacement parts were pricey. Corporate GM will do anything to cut cost to their other brands and since the Corvette was their baby that no one else can out shine it. Then again there were experimental cars that did utilized the ZF transmission like the FireFox I and II and the fire breather Firehawk but that was all done by Pontiac themselves without the resources and support from corporate GM.
camaro had a couple of experimental too however I can't recall what they were at this moment.
When the next gen vehicles came out the T-56 was introduced and all platforms were now available with this 6 speed option although the corvette was the 1st to use it.
Yeah, the car is really awesome, My father have one of those 384 😁 from 95' I think or 96'.The motor sound in the car and in the street is very very good! His car still runs as well as 91'. Sometimes he wants to sell it, but every time change mind. I'm happy that hi didn't sell it, because it is really unique car for it's producing time, so many electronics. When I was small girl, father brings me to school by this car, and I was so proud of him, and all people were surprised by car it looks very cool.

FYI, if anyone wants to know the paint code for this color/car, it's 81u. It's a GM paint color called Bright Red. I have this same car myself but it's not a GTA. Mine is a Trans AM.

Late 3rd gens will likely never have the allure of the 1st and 2nd gens, but for those that know, the build quality and overall fit and finish was markedly better. There is a reason you see these cars hitting ~ 200k miles.

Not original paint. Or there's some sort of mirror glaze applied over it. Owned a 91 Formula for 9 years. Had to have all of the non metal body parts repainted under warranty because the paint went bad and cloudy. Had an employee that worked part time for me that had retired from the Arlington GM plant. He said the plants paint the plastic parts separately from the metal ones. I have owned 5 Firebirds with two being Trans Ams. You can't read the reflection that good. Had the 91 custom repainted after a wreck. The result was a perfect mirror finish you could read from.
The 91 GTA I had was completely repainted at no cost by the Pontiac dealership in 1994, so I believe you. They did an excellent job on mine that kept a mirror finish until I sold it a few years ago.
You can usually see a slight difference between the front bumper and the metal parts on the 91 models(not sure about the 92s).

I know where there is 2 red ones for sale. They bring more then my Corvettes of the same era! One is an 87 with digital dash and the other is newer, I can't remember, but one has rear end body damage. But $4000 for both, I think I might pick them up.

Pontiac really ruin the look of this car when they changed the nose ground effects and taillights. Not to mention that hideous airbag steering wheel. Everything after 87 was a slow roll down hill the last of the third gens. And the only thing good that came out of the 4th generation was a put some pretty stout power plants in finally. The 305 tuned Port Motors are ok to 350 TPI was really nice in 87, actually was completely adequate.
I definitely like the late 80s body style better..
My brother had one that came with the full SLP and WS6 package but it was green. SLP package had headers, exhaust, bigger throttle body and sold it for 10 grand with 150k miles on it. I always thought it was funny that they could put a manual in the Vettes which had more power but not in these
That's so cool that he had that. Long time ago before I bought my GTA I came across a 91 Trans Am that had all the SLP options: cold air intake, the intake runners, the prom chip, the headers and catback exhaust. These parts were dealer installed items and a mirror like decal was displayed under the hood to signify the parts that were installed. I thought the guy was asking too much at $7,200 at the time and I bought my GTA for $5k but those parts are gold now as SLP stopped making them which kinda makes me kick myself for not getting it.

I have almost the exact same car but it has about 171,500 km and a dark red paint which has been recently redone but the body was straight
One thing that kills me is that I had it in at a mechanics because the alternator quit and someone hit it on the drivers side rear fender right above the marker.
Gm didnt put a manual transmission in it because the body flexed too much from the low end torque ..NOT because they didnt have a manual that couldnt handle the power..lol

Na 92 was. Also the last year for 3rd gen firebirds.
Technically 92 was but only difference was a few structural adds to stiffen chassis & basically finish out the build orders

fake news... The real reason why they didn't offer the 5.7 with a manual trans. is that the frame for the firebird/camaro was too weak to take the power and the torque of the 5.7
And why would you buy a Corvette if you could get a camaro or firebird with the same powertrain for 10k less?????

Lol the frame work you do realize the Slp had the first Firehawk in 92 that made almost 400hp with a stick. It had no problems handling the power, or no damage to the frame. The just as fast as the vette for 10grand less is factual….

I’m sorry, but the LS1 cars are way more attractive. The GTA runs a solid 14.8 1/4 mile, about as fast as brothers Acura 4cyl.
Does the acura do 150mph.

The 1977-81 Trans Am's were even slower and look at the prices they are bringing now.
Just because YOU don't like a car doesn't mean it won't become highly valued.
This car shown here is an amazing example of 30 year old performance (for the time) car.
