The Hadith you quoted is not authentic, . For the sake of argument, let assume that is correct. Is there a particular format for praying for your dead persons. You can observe prayers and do sadaqat, but it can be done at any time by yourself not gathering people or to select a particular day, or month. Let's go back to holy prophet Muhammad ( saw). Did prophet do fidau for his wife Kahdijat, or for any of the shahbans?

What do we pray for? Check Q:60 V:13 either is talking to an individuals or group of individuals. Prophet Muhammad SAW is the messenger sent to us and he prayed in presence of his companions that might be in another directions i.e. when he prayed in one of his family grave called Sofiat that Allahuma bi haq Muhammad wal ahl Muhammad la tuhabu hadha li manyit.
