Vegeta was the forsaken Saiyan. He ascended the need for peer motivation and through sheer self reliance and personal drive he obtained the level of power that he did. I feel like he was cheated throughout the series though. He should've been the perfect example of "hard work pays off" but instead it was more about the "golden boy" Goku and even Gohan, who got their powers from the "God's favor" for being "good", but he's really just obliviously innocent and has the best intentions for people.
