      Elvis was his own man. A good man who gave so much to many.....and in return he was made a victim by many around him. These men come along every once in a while. We need to pay more attention.......and listen to their words.

    You are not the first who shed tears hearing this song, and you will not be the last. "If I Can Dream" is another one you will cry to. But it's more passionate and you can hear his great power voice. It's one of the best and most passionate live performance in music history!
    And he sang it only one time!
    It was the closing song from the great '68 Comeback Special.
    Thank you for you sensitive reaction to this meaningful song!

    I've watched dozens of reaction videos to this song. This song is as relevant today as it was then. Most people who react to this video don't understand the message and just don't get it. You get it. You got it. Please do Walk a Mile in my Shoes, and If I Can Dream by Elvis. Throw in Bridge Over Troubled Water for good measure. They are all songs with amazing messages. Elvis wasn't much into message songs, but the ones I mentioned are the exception.

    Elvis didn't see color. He was born into poverty. Despite this it has been said that throughout his life he was kind, respectful and generous. As a child growing in the 1930's and 40's there is a story of him sharing an ice-cream cone with a black child on a hot summer day. People did not do that back then. As a teen he would sneak out of his mother's church and into the neighboring black church because their music was the most beautiful he had ever heard. A black man taught him how to play the guitar. Yes, Elvis sang covers of his favorite songs which happened to be sung by black singers. Elvis didn't steal their music - he helped promote it. While planning for a huge Texas concert he was told to leave his black girls (his back up singers, The Sweet Inspirations - led by Whitney Houston's mother) at home. He said - if they don't sing I won't sing. And there are countless stories of him performing random acts of kindness to strangers of various races throughout his life. The world was extremely racist back then and Elvis helped close the gap. "If I Can Dream" should be re-released with proceeds being donated to the cause. It is a timeless song and new generations should hear his message. Please share Elvis' beautiful music. Elvis forever our King!

  • @jmrx12
    @jmrx12 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, this song (written by Mac Davis) was originally going to be titled "The Vicious Cycle", because that's what the lyrics are describing in the song. A child is born and raised in poverty, eventually is killed (due to the poverty), and on the very day that he is killed, another child is born in that ghetto-hence the vicious cycle. How is it broken?

  • @Alisha_79
    @Alisha_79 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This was not written by Elvis but he lived in the Ghetto of Tupelo, Mississippi growing up! He knew and I am sure saw this!
    He also gave back to his part of Tupelo many times financially in many ways.
    He was a very giving and humble man.
    If places didn't want him to bring his girls, he didn't play there! As you can see they are all black. He demanded them to be treated equal. Going through same entrances as him even if they were technically segregated entrances. Same hotels as the rest of his staff and quality of rooms. You betcha he checked too!
    Watch if I can dream by him.
