Hey Kommammo, hope you're still owning and appreciating your 00-15M?! I own one too..from 2012 and it's a great and lovely guitar. Even if it sounds weird but If your 00-15M has still the original action from the Martin fabric I would like to know your string height at 12th fret. This would be great to compare and adjust because I unfortunately can't remember the original height of my 00-15. Recently I had to sand down the saddle due to playability issues. I guess the neck has moved over the time. So playability is fine now again, but I feel like I have lost some resonance.. I would appreciate your answer. 🙂
I am a singer-songwriter from India. I started checking out these videos for the love of just checking out acoustic guitars. I hope I will someday be able to visit your store if I travel to the USA or maybe even buy one while I am there. Thank you for the wonderful content. You guys are great. In case you read this, I would love for you guys to someday make a video regarding guitars with a 1-7/8th nut width. Cheers \m/
I own the 000-15SM; mine is in my hands right now. This is an incredible guitar! The sound is just intoxicating. Full bass, ringing highs, a lovely almost “equalized” tone across the strings like it’s going through an invisible pre amp. My hands aren’t the largest, even still the wider nut, 1.75”, and string spacing at the saddle, 2.35”, have become more comfortable to play especially for fingerpicking. The neck has a subtle V feel. Lead and melodies have beautiful sustain and a bell like tone. The 000-15SM is an incredible guitar for the price. I would actually love to see comparisons between the 000-15SM and Martin Dreadnoughts and even Gibson Dreads and the J-45 because the 15SM has so much bass and fullness that it’s tonally much more complex like a dread or slope shoulder. The next time I go to a store, I’ll be bringing my 000-15SM specifically to compare it with dreads and the J45… and I’m kind of expecting the 000-15SM to win out tonally. It’s that good! My only last bit of experience to share… this is a phenomenal guitar for open tunings. I would love a J45 to have those 14 frets in standard tuning, but being able to always have the 000-15SM in open tunings is a secret weapon!
Proud owner of a 000-15SM here. To address some of the comments: changing strings isn’t that bad and don’t let that be a deterrent if you’re considering it. I also have an HD-28 (which I love) but I usually pick up the 000-15SM. It’s all personal preference but it feels right in my hands. Lovely guitar, a no-regrets purchase. Keep up the good work fellas, I really enjoyed this video.
@@jessesmith2906 The SM has a wider nut so it’s more comfortable for fingers style, also it’s a smaller guitar so it fits in the lap a little better. Which is why it’s my go to for playing on the couch. The Hd is obviously louder and punchier, the SM is more subtle and warm. Both are fantastic guitars and compliment each other wonderfully in a collection.
For finger style I always gravitate towards the 00. Albeit mahogany back and sides and spruce top, but these sound wonderful too and again the 00 is the one I'd walk out the shop with
Something to consider. The 00-15M & 000-15M has a 1-11/16" Nut. The 000-15SM has a 1-3/4" Nut. I liked the way the 000-15SM felt in my hands and loved the way it sounded over the other solid mahogany's. That's why I purchased one. Absolutely beautiful warm, resonating tone.
Great explanation on the shape difference between the M and the SM. Thought something weird was up, as there's an obvious body shape difference. Bravo!
I just got the Dreadnought Jr Street Master and its legit the best playing acoustic ive ever had. Cant put it down. It maybe doesnt sound as incredible or massive as other acoustics ive played but it sounds very good and again plays amazing
Been on a hunt for the last five years or so, bought and sold quite a few acoustics. I finally found the absolute perfect guitar for me and I pick it up at the end of the month. That bad boy is the SM, it’s absolutely perfect in every way for me 🤘🏻
On your 5 year hunt - did you play the Taylor 324 by chance - Mahogany and Tazmanian blackwood. I ran into it, and was the first guitar I bought after playing over 500 guitars and over 100 stores.
@@danherrick5785 I have not, but I will definitely try it out, I’m actually finally picking up the Martin today, I’ll see if they have one there and try it first! 🤘🏻
The way you two were tossing those guitars back and forth I was afraid someone was gonna lose an eye... Great video! I have a 000-15sm that I absolutely adore. Ya Gotta Love the mahogany Martins!
Surely lengthening the body of the 12 fret diminishes one of the main advantages of a 12 fret. That being, shifting the bridge placement into the central area of the lower bout for more resonance. Whenever I build a 12 fret I shorten the fretboard and move the bridge into the lower bout, leaving the body the same. I don't know any local acoustic guitar players who need 20 frets - usually 15 is all they play.
@@powbobs I know that but really what is the point of giving yourself restricted fret access and not enjoying the benefits of getting more action out of the soundboard of the lower bout by placing the bridge in the optimum position. Tradition for its own sake IMO.

Hi Gents, I do say this with respect, but you are comparing the two Martin hog 000s back to front. The 12 fret 000 auditorium was around from about 1902, until 19329/30 and is the ORIGINAL shape of the Martin Auditorium. So the 12fret isn't "stretched" it is the 14 fret design that is reduced to facilitate the thinner "rhythm" neck - i.e., the OM -then some time later Martin reintroduced the same body with a shorter scale and called it a 000.
And to further confuse the issue: The 000-15M should actually be called an OM-15M because unlike all the other 000 models with a 24.9” neck scale, it has the 25.5” scale of an OM.
The 000 has a wider upper bout - it might be close - all you have to do is fill them both with water and see which one holds more water - I'm surprised they didn't do that to find out!!!
Thanks Paul and Quinton. I'd be interested in comparing the 000-15 sm 12 fret to the Taylor AD22E. When I played the 000-15m and AD22E, I thought the AD22E sounded better, but that 12-fret adds something.
It would be nice to be sure if the "S" stands for slotted or standard as in the early 1930's when 14 fret was a new thing "S" in the model name was (I have read) standard.
The “S” does not mean slotted. It means Standard, because when they were first introduced they were Martin’s standard guitar. The SM is simply a Standard all solid wood Mahogany guitar. All of these models have there needed placements and are all so good. Mine is the SM
I’m a big fan of the 000 Martins. I had a D-18GE for a while, traded for an even better D-18GE. The all hog Martins do have a unique woody, open sound, great clarity, but I’ve never really liked ‘that’ sound enough to buy one. I thought I’d prefer the sound of the SM, but IMO, the 000-15M was more balanced, more depth in midrange...The O-15M is pretty interesting, quieter, but otherwise retaining that all-hog sound. You could really develop a love for a small body guitar you can play quietly on the sofa, take it anywhere.
I love the three of them but chose the 00015m as in my opinion, it had the most balanced sound, regardless, these mahogany Martins are just the best value and sounding guitars on the market.
Quinton comments about the lack of locking tuners for acoustic guitars - just fit the ones marketed for electric guitars, if you must. But locking tuners are usually heavier and the bodies of acoustic guitars are lighter than electric guitars, and who really likes a guitar with a heavy headstock. What about an acoustic headless with tuners on the lower bout?
One very major difference not discussed here is that the 000-15sm has wider string spacing at both the bridge and nut for people who seek that for finger style. I think string spacing at the bridge is 2.35” and the nut width is 1.75” (compared to 2.25” and 1.68” on the 000-15m).
Actually Gotoh makes wonderful, light locking tuners, appropriate for acoustics, replace Grover rotomatics without modification. Now If only they’d make a locking tuners to replace Grover sta-tites. Hipshot also makes no-modification locking tuners that work on almost anything. I have a set on my sj-200 to replace the Grover imperials. Locking tuners are a game changing for hateful string changing.
They didn’t add an inch as the 12-fretted was earlier the cut off for the 14-fret. As much as I like the slotted headstock I don’t even wanna think about changing strings… Lovely guitars though!
Just clip the string end at 2 - 3 inches over as you wind it up. Then, trim strings when tuned. Avoids the frustration of trying to tune with full length strings when changing strings.
Obviously I don't know how they sounded in the room - but to my ears the 000-15M sounded the best. It had the best balance of woody dry tone compared to some air and sustain. Also to my ears the 000-15M felt like the bigger brother to the 00-15M.....they had a similar character to their tone. The different body shape and possibly the slotted headstock gave the 000-15SM a different character to its tone. It sounded less focussed and less characterful with more bottom end and volume - possibly beginning to sound a little like a dreadnaught.
I've found something that the thinner [not fuller sounding] the guitar sounds, the clearer it comes across through microphones. And therefore more pleasant. And the other way around, it's close to dreadnoghts with guitars that are versatile, with full sound, enough bass and volume. The microphones usually cannot convey the better guitars when it comes to the full sound. Haven't played any of the three guitars myself, but something tells me the SM sounds the best.
In my opinion the 000 15m has a closer sound to the classic rock acoustic sound and would probably blend slightly better in a song mix with a band. All are good though in their own way
I wanted an all mahogany guitar and looked at some videos. I actually found it in a shop and liked it so I bought it. There was only one in the shop, and I thought it was an ooo-15M, but when I got home and checked it was an oo-15M. I played it at the store and was happy with it, so I have no regrets. I think this was better. I think they are both great guitars.
I've had a 000-15SM for three years now... amazing guitar... currently thinking about additionally getting a 000-15M - not sure yet whether the difference is big enough to justify the expense...
it's a minor point, and not to criticise as much to clarify that the current 000-15M isn't actually the "traditional" 000, since the "S" version came first. That said I like both the 000 and 00 models.

Gracias por compartir… sorry i’m not speak inglés.
I went to guitar center and tried a OOO15M what a disappointment. New guitars usually always need a setup. The one I tried was terrible strings a quarter inch at the 12th fret and the nut height was high and it was really light. Not for me
My very Bad, I think it was late and I only watched 3 minutes into it your shared show is normally well done but the fast swapping in and out gave me the heebies. My 00015SM Is cherished and with no nicks scrapes cuts or bruises so maybe my blood pressure got to high in the passings to be a reasonable and rational human being,
@@markmartin3221 - No bad at all - we're definitely on the same page regarding what a good comparison video requires! I seriously feel like I got the lesser of the three. Bought a 00-15 a couple months ago and I’m wishing I bought the 000 size. It just doesn’t sit right with me
NOOOO - you made a great choice!!!!!!!!! It is a better guitar than the 000. The 000 sounds too much like other guitars - the 00 and the SM both have unique voices. Repeat after me - better - better - better- better... seriously - the 00 was the best guitar I tried after playing 20 guitars last month - many of them were Collings - your guitar kicks *ss... this is obviously a personal choice...
Sorry not to hear any finger picking, lots of talk about hating string changes, but was hoping for something other than loud whanging away, no subtlety or real tonal comparison. Lost opportunity. .
I own the ooo 15 sm i will never part with it. It brings so much to the mix of instuments. I have found it to be an exelent fingerdtyle instrument, and flat picking as well. I chose to put a lr baggs i beam in it. The ooo15sm is a framed braced. It weight is next to nothing and it is comfortable to play standing up at gigs. How does so much sound come out of this intimate guitar.
The shoulders are more rounded on the 15sm. You will never find a martin 12 fret slotted head stock ooo 15 or ooo28,or ooo18. I guess it is to hard to make.
Basically, the 000-15sm needs to be included in any list of the absolute classic Martin designs IN HISTORY. It is what it is and that's that.

it's a minor point, and not to criticise as much to clarify that the current 000-15M isn't actually the "traditional" 000, since the "S" version came first. That said I like both the 000 and 00 models.
All of these guitars sound fantastic, but that 00 is exactly what I’m looking for !! Too bad it costs so much, even used 😭
I'm amazed that the 0015 sounds nicest in this recording. More controlled and less boomy. All have that classic Martin tone.
Great would you review the Taylor ad22e, ad27 and the gte mahogany?
They have an earlier video of the 000-15m and AD22E.
D15 m, for sale...2014 new..
Recent neck reset, refret,plek machined,
Was done at martin warranty coverage.
Repair Nazareth..
Excellent job..
1,200$..Michigan
I love 12 Frets! Much prefer their fuller sound… though I definitely require a cutaway with my 12 frets and not many builders do that.
Is the 000-15sm the same as the 000-15m StreetMaster??
I want both the 000-15sm and 00-15m
What kind of style of music are you playing gentleman?
Gracias por compartir… sorry i’m not speak inglés.
If only Martin would offer size 2 in the 15 series or even an 0, or 0015sm.
I went to guitar center and tried a OOO15M what a disappointment. New guitars usually always need a setup. The one I tried was terrible strings a quarter inch at the 12th fret and the nut height was high and it was really light. Not for me
Comparisons should be done with the same riff, strumming and anything else done on a guitar. So… you can compare
Hi Mark - if you check out the vid at ~7:26 in, this is what we're attempting to do. Thanks for watching1
My very Bad, I think it was late and I only watched 3 minutes into it your shared show is normally well done but the fast swapping in and out gave me the heebies. My 00015SM
Is cherished and with no nicks scrapes cuts or bruises so maybe my blood pressure got to high in the passings to be a reasonable and rational human being,
@@markmartin3221 - No bad at all - we're definitely on the same page regarding what a good comparison video requires! And we were definitely more cavalier than usual flinging these instruments around. If I had the $ and room, I'd be adding the 15SM to my collection as well - just an excellent guitar!
@@markmartin3221 So you criticized content without actually watching the whole thing. Geeesh.
Really enjoy your videos guys, but sometimes I wish you wouldn’t say words between guitar swaps. It helps to remember what the previous guitar sounded like if you don’t talk between swaps. Just me maybe.
Isn't the 000-15SM a long scale? That would be one reason it's a little louder
They all have the same scale length of 25.4” I think.
I will buy the SM the 12 Fred
For me
I seriously feel like I got the lesser of the three.
@@danherrick5785 Thanks man I guess I am stuck with a gem haha
I own a 2012 00-15 along with 4 other "higher end" Martins. The 00-15 is a great guitar that hangs with the best of them.
Welp, tonally it's the OOO-15SM
Mr hatman let him finish his sentences
00016
Stripy they begin to look like y not a real hog for me imo trick of their trade 😅
guy on the right sounds so narcissistic. can you stop cutting people off??
Sorry not to hear any finger picking, lots of talk about hating string changes, but was hoping for something other than loud whanging away, no subtlety or real tonal comparison. Lost opportunity. .
Maybe a more creative guitar player would give a better demonstration next time.
I lust for the norman blake martin 12 frett ooo28. Norman was the only guitarist to totaly design a new martin for cf martin company, and himself.
The shoulders are more rounded on the 15sm. You will never find a martin 12 fret slotted head stock ooo 15 or ooo28,or ooo18. I guess it is to hard to make.
Taylor, taylor, taylor, i am selling all of them except for the324 urban ash builders edition. I am guitar poor. But i am keeping my four martins.
