I watched YTV all the time as a kid and even saw its "fall" if you will around the early 2010's where all it would play was Nickelodeon. I missed the crazy and oddball style of the show, I have had a YTV comic that pizza hut was giving out. One of the last shows I remember enjoying a lot was Ruby Gloom.
I grew up in the US, but what you said about "the channel" is on point. I don't think big corporations realize how important things like bumpers and hosts and everything having a certain "feel" to a TV channel is. That's the one thing on demand streaming can't replace.
i actually dropped everything i was doing (which was nothing) and watched this as soon as I got the notification. I was very pumped for this long awaited YTV video and it didn't disappoint. New favorite video on this channel fo sho
i really love this video. Even though I was born in 2004 and wasn't even conscious to experience the Keep It Weird era, I REALLY love the aesthetic and branding it brought to YTV. I do agree that modern technology is slowly fading away the icon and image of cable TV channels but that's the change we have to deal with as we grow, but who knows? I'm currently entering my first year of university planning to major in media production because of the beautiful experiences growing up watching TV shows and the nostalgia of being a kid. I somewhat see myself planning to work for Corus and if I'm lucky, I could be producing for YTV. :)
Hey, i relate to you, as I was a little bit behind of the Keep It Weird campaign as well. Really appreciate your comment and insight. Good luck on your future endeavours!!
I grew up in Minnesota so I Never got to watch YTV or TeleToon. I grew up watching Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney, Noggin, FOX Family Channel, Discovery Kids, The Saturday Morning Blocks, etc.❤️📺🎶👍🏻
Hi man, I just came across your channel and you and me are alike in this sense! I grew up watching YTV in the early to late 2000s and it was some of the best times of my life. That's why I made a huge tierlist on all the shows I used to love as a kid on my channel! I absolutely enjoyed hearing you talk about YTV and enjoying the nostalgia because it also helped take me back as well! I can't wait to see more of your content :)
Hey, thank you, I really appreciate your comment. I will for sure check out your tier lists -- that's something I've been meaning to get into myself. Thanks a bunch.
Dude i grew up with ytv from 1990 to 2008 than it became trash but i miss the good old days of bionix (anime on friday nights) in the 2000s and their late night njght horror thing in the 90s also had the biggest crush on sugar as a kid
Totally forgot to Mention Bionix here but probaby an early intro to Anime for many Canadian kids. I miss the old stuff too, but I hope that children who grew up with the new stuff look back at it the way we look at the old. And P.S. I think we all had a crush on Sugar as a kid!!
You make it sound like ytv is the only channel that showed nickelodeon shows in canada. Family channel also had some nickelodeon shows on it. zoey 101, ned's declassified school survival guide, all that and the Amanda show were all on Family channel in canada. Great video btw. You should do a video like this for teletoon, family channel, tvo and cbc.
Yeah thats a good point. Other channels aired Nickelodeon, but I just didn't have access to those channels at all times, only while at a friends house or something. I should have re-worded my script to make that clearer! Appreciate the feedback here a lot!
I miss the "TV channel" too or even just video jockies. It would be so fun to have a bit of a programming block and just hear skits/commentary on what we're watching between new episodes of shows. Yeah you can kind of curate something yourself but that whole community aspect is kind of gone. The only thing that still captures some of that is Shonen Jump anime and manga when I ask some of my friends what they're keeping up with and so often even with that we won't even be following the same series.
Interesting video. Over here in the states, we have CN & Nick which both used to be very creative and fun like the vibe this Canadian channel had. Now, they're not as interesting as they once were anymore.
@@unslashcultured And also your former CN will be turning into Boomerang. Over here Boomerang used to be like what you call "Teletoon Retro" but it eventually started adding CN shows until it became like another CN in 2015. Nowadays, our Boomerang only airs 3 franchises during the day, and a few older CN shows around midnight.
remember the old host and one was a hand in a toilette? and when it came for them to leave the show and the next host to take over they flushed the hand down the toilette!?! everyone i talk to only remembers sugar and carlos and not the older host from before

YTV was actually an institution. It kept you within the cultural Zietgiest as a kid in Canada.

Watched your moral oral video essay. Good shit man! Happy to find a Canadian doing these kind of videos
I love Big Comfy Couch as a kid. It was always on PBS Kids in the early morning. Perfect before school.
Legit, my fav video to date.
Appreciate the kind words!
Man, juat stumbled across this video and it hit me right in the Canadian Elder Millennial feels. Thank you~

God bless!!
real canadian hours who tf up‼️
forgot so much of the cracked stuff in this video
The Punisher gave me trauma
PJ Katie’s Farm was so damn good. Thanks for these videos! Great work.
YTV was my go to channel as a kid! Truly made growing up in Canada something special with how weird and chaotic it was!
omg hot new video drop
If I wasn't on my n64 I was glued to ytv thank u so much for this
Canadians really know how to make some great programming I still love it for my childhood till now

@@unslashcultured No worries my man! Yeahhh, it'd be awesome to see your opinion on some of the shows as well
DUDLEY WAS DEADLY
Sctv used air on the far east network (FEN). In Japan in the mid 80s.

@@unslashcultured keep up the great work i would love to see videos like this about other TV stations
12:34 I have a near complete collection of all the Volumes they’ve released between 2000-2009!
That's big and fun!!!

We had a similar channel in the UK, it was called CITV and it had almost the exact same stuff YTV had!
Sounds awesome!
Note:
I'm aware that Boy Meets World was aired on YTV, but that was before my time! :)
I didn’t know John Candy was Canadian!🤯
Interesting video. Over here in the states, we have CN & Nick which both used to be very creative and fun like the vibe this Canadian channel had. Now, they're not as interesting as they once were anymore.
I agree! Our version of CN called Teletoon is shutting down soon and turning to CN, so while its sad go see it go, at least we will still have CN!

Shows on YTV really were something weird. You'd never see a show like Monster By Mistake, Stickin' Around, or Yvon Of The Yukon anywhere else.

I also do not remember this, but i will look it up for sure
