Jigen-ryu Hyoho Kenjutsu - Sengan-en (September 20th, 2020 Morning)

Taisha-ryu and Jigen-ryu held a joint demonstration of swordsmanship at Sengan-en, the stately home and gardens of the Shimadzu clan on the 20th of September 2020. This is the first time in 416 years that these two schools have appeared together at a property of the Shimadzu family.

Pell work (and a good battle cry!) is so important to military swordsmanship, yet it seems to be somewhat rare in kenjutsu outside of Jigen-Ryu. I love watching the Jigen-Ryu drills for this reason.

Even the swordsmen of the Shinsengumi feared the power and lethality of the Satsuma Bushi thanks to their training in Jigen Ryu. Awesome to see it being demonstrated.
