We couldn’t pass up an opportunity to try the famous Bhatkal biryani enroute to Gokarna. And so we stopped for lunch at Hotel Kwality, where the second generation of a family has been making this Uttara Kannada biryani for the last 60 years. What is interesting is that the biryani here features only fish, prawns and chicken, no mutton. Why, you may ask? Well, you’ll have to watch the video for that. And whilst there, you will find out why we loved the fish biryani, made with a fish called madosa, also known as mug locally, that we found incredibly flakey and buttery in its texture, and the prawn biryani, where the prawns were cooked to juicy perfection.
