The Dutch elastic-band car Tom mentioned is the DAF Daffodil. Due to a weird quirk in the belt-driven pulley transmission system of earlier models, it could theoretically reach the same top speed going backwards as it could go forwards.
Soon as Ben said 'powered by an elastic band' and 'sunflower or something', I instantly knew; DAF Daffodil. CVT, Could go as fast backwards as forwards.
