  • A song from the Durham Coalfields. "Rap'er t'bank" refers to the signal to the surface operator to engage the winding gear to haul up the miners in their cage at the end of a shift. In earlier times, this signal was as basic as an agreed series of raps on the wooden facing of the mine shaft, The song reflects the hazardous working conditions down the mines.

    I love this version. The previous version I heard from Jack Elliot on TH-cam was I thought the original although it is much shorter and without the first verse. He ends his version with the word "never", not followed by the chorus which I find chilling and heart breaking. It amazes me that in the UK this great industry is effectively no more. We should never forget the bravery of the miners doing their job everyday, often not seeing daylight for many consecutive days.

    You've mixed two unrelated songs together Jowl Jowl and listen lads is a separate song
