- As per the results of the 1K subscriber special, it's time to start the next series of playthroughs. Combining both the votes from my channel and the Cutstuff thread, the end results are as follows:
"Mega Man: A Day in the Limelight" was the overall winner with a combined total of 11 votes.
"A Day in the Limelight 2" and "Mega Man Next Remix" were both tied with 6 votes each.
I'll be playing all three of these games based on their votes. Given the obvious, the initial entry in the Day in the Limelight series is up first. Since DL2 and Next Remix both had the same number of votes, I'll probably do them in order (I suppose it makes more sense to do DL2 directly after this one anyways).
Note: I apologize if the video is a bit choppy during Wood Man's stage. I honestly don't know why it happens (although it might be due to his stage's graphics/some portions of the background looking more like a 3D magic eye picture), but it clears up in Air Man's stage (unsurprisingly, considering 85% of its background is one solid color).

Most of the RM stages have at least some frustrating sections, but that one, well...
Surprisingly, the tamest one is IMO Bomb Man's one, even RM matchup is not too terrible.

I think Cutman would be more efficient to play as if he could damage flying or hoping enemies by simply touching them with his scissors instead of firing it.
Say what you will about the original AirMan stage or any other stage that involves waiting

Nice to see my vote countedfor something.
If there is any good thing to take away from this game, it's the small attention to detail of enemies reacting to weapons when they are killed.
Thankfully though, Limelight 2 is a much better game overall and fixes a lot of the problems seen in this game.
I'm surprised that the game itself is similar to Mega Man Powered Up, but the Robot Masters from Mega Man 1 are traversing through the stages in Mega Man 2.

ahahhaha, oh my god, this game is horrible. I don't understand where all the hype came from, it's just them making the original MM2 stages harder and more tedious while giving you shittier weapons to work with.
Gonna be honest: I have to agree for the most part. On occasion it manages to shine through with some decent ideas and concepts, but that's all it tends to offer (aside from awful level design). I don't know what the hell happened between this one and Limelight 2, but mercifully, the sequel is far superior.
Geez... the game's not THAT bad... look at some the half-finished, bug-riddled junk out there that often gets 5 stars on YoYo games or wherever. And it's not as if the creator didn't learn and improve his skills between this game and the next in the series. I swear, some people seem to have little understanding of the complexity of creating video games or what "hobby" and "free download" mean anymore.
M. Hannum Just because something is fan-made and put out there for free doesn't mean it's beyond criticism. Yes, I'm well aware there are several worse games out there than this one - and by comparison, there's a lot of stuff that is functionally worse on the YoYo Games Sandbox. However, there's a key difference between something that's bad functionality-wise (Big Rigs for example), and something that's bad when it comes to an overall nose-dive in enjoyment factor. This game falls into the latter category, mostly because it takes a fine concept and goes absolutely nowhere with it. Granted, I'm grateful the original creator learned their lesson and made a far superior game with Limelight 2, but that doesn't change the fact that this first game is extremely flawed in many regards.
You raise valid points, though as I said, the game could be far, far worse. IMHO, "horrible" and "extremely flawed" should be reserved for games that cost money and had actual budgets and design teams, or games that are effectively unplayable because of bugs. Big Rigs falls into both categories..., and MM Rocks into the last... but a hobby fan-game made by one guy with limited experience that is actually BETTER than trash like that? It deserves an honest review, but some folks... wow - they act as if fan games like this are the worst thing in the world. That being said, you are right in that constructive criticism - which you do give - is helpful... my post was more directed at the other people out there who love to tear down the creations of others while probably not being able to code a simple If/Then statement themselves... Anyway, no hard feelings, and I do enjoy your constructive reviews. They offer great insight into how NOT to create a video game.
M. Hannum I understand. I think you have some good points on this, actually. I personally just tend to get more worked up when a game has a solid premise (such as playing as the Robot Masters, among other things), but has several aspects that drag it down (such as bad level design, a glitched out engine, etc). That can easily be a game-killer on a personal level. With that being said however, I don't mind the concepts in this game. I just wish everything else built around it was more stable and improved (something that Limelight 2 got right).
