I think if you pull the thread on that length of tasseling, it will unravel and give you a nice fringe effect without cutting in between each bottom fringe piece. They sell it that way so it doesn’t get tangled and frayed.
Your fringe-y trim may be used as is OR pull out the stitching along the bottom edge. It’s stitched like that at the factory to save the trim being scrambled and matted during shipping. (I worked at a fabric store summers during college.)

Hi if the shirt is linen just put it in wash then dryer on high heat and it will shrink down a size, did it myself for a linen shirt i got my husband!!
