So good. I love Talking Heads, saw them in '77 in London and saw David Byrne last year in his tour around the UK. The rhythm is much harder than you think to get right. I think that's because it's a natural strumming pattern for Byrne and so you have to try to tune into that pattern - and then it all flows.
A great song, and you are the only one on the planet to post a lesson on it. Myself, and I'm sure many others in the guitar universe thank you immensely.
Was at a tribute to CB/GB's 2 months ago and Chris and Tina from Talking Heads were the special guests! Hanging with the crowd! Very nice, humble and approachable! Great lesson! Naive Melody( This Must Be The Place), one of the greatest songs ever! One of the tricky ones me thinks! Cheers!!
Yay! Been looking forward to this as you know. On 1st glance it already looks like the most accurate coverage of this tune. Be nice to see one no one else has covered, though I take your points about difficulty completely.
Great choice! I get what you mean about Talking Heads and guitar trickiness. The only song I'd have put first for fun, accessible "guitariness" is New Feeling (from '77 or live versions). (Trying to plant a seed!)
This is so great I ever ever even attempt to tackle a TH song. Like you said the guitar usually plays a supporting role. With the TH the sum is most definitely greater then the parts. Great song thanks.
Love this song it was a great choice... just food for thought when choosing songs for lessons. I guess youre right Yea some songs have guitars in supporting roles. But people in bands want material too In any case you rock ....great lessons
Can you do a lesson explaining The Killing Jar by Siouxsie and the Banshees? I've seen some covers here on TH-cam but I can't figure out that strange harmonics after the chorus
Mike Whittaker its a funny A-Major 7 triad with a g note that goes up to a C note. I'm trying to figure crosseyed and painless which has a similar chord construct to this lesson.
Great lesson! Wouldn’t mind more Heads stuff just to get a better understanding of the structure behind the guitar parts. Also please do a lesson for Deadman’s Party by Oingo Boingo!!
Another great post Adrian, really enjoyed it. Not a song I will learn however, as I never really got talking heads. That aside, you are so engaging I would most likely watch you teaching Djent, which I absolutely don't get. All the best :)
Heard of a van... That is... Loaded with weapons... Packed up and ready to go. Heard of some grave sites... Out on the highway... A place where nobody knows. The sound of gunfire... Out in the distance... I'm getting used to it now. I've... Lived in a brownstone... I've... Lived in the ghetto... I've lived all over this town. This aint no party. This ain't no disco. This ain't no foolin around. There's... No time for dancin. Or lovey dovey. I ain't got time for that now. :-I
Thanks for that one. I'm trying an arrangement of this, my favourite TH song for some time, but could never get the riff right. May I suggest a song? Pere Ubu's Heaven. It has the most beautiful minimalist solo ever!
That's a great suggestion! Adrian, you listening? (And if Heaven's too short, you can follow it up with Nonalignment Pact that comes up next on the album! Yes, I'm greedy.)
Stops were presumably the equivalent to fretting in classical music. Though you can play double stops with open strings in classical string instruments.
I often think aloud that David Byrne was the best of the New York punk guitarists. So original and innovative and minimal and effective. Crosseyed and Painless is a killer riff.
Another great choice of song. Basically this channel has become the set list for the coolest covers band ever.
Would not be a bad one!

I'm in Maine USA. Super cool to read that.
Love your videos. You are a great player; incredible teacher. Wonderful camera angles. Clear explanations.

As always…NAILED IT!!….Adrian, you are the man!!!!
Never would have figured this out on my own nailed it by the time you finished the intro. B52s?
Geez I'm 47 & just got into talking heads, what a band! Pure mad genius
Yes great thanks . Please more Talking Heads - early stuff please
This is so great I ever ever even attempt to tackle a TH song. Like you said the guitar usually plays a supporting role. With the TH the sum is most definitely greater then the parts.

How about Found A Job? That's trademark Byrne guitar through and through

Thank you. Spot on!
Yes it was about time you looked at them! Nice axe also.
Great lesson, thank you!!
Great song. Great lesson.

Ah! Back with a bang!
and then Paper and Mind and then Memories Cant Wait!😉
Love this song ! How about a Midge Ure / Ultravox song ? Superb 80’s band that doesn’t get enough attention.
Great choice,thanks
Awesome Adrian

Have you seen Pyscho killer done acoustic? It is on here. Please cover, would be amazing..
can you do a tutorial for nothing but flowers by talking heads
What a great surprise. Thank you very much. Have you considered doing a Stone Roses song?
Hey Adrian, I just remember a song named City Slang by Sonic’s Rendezvous maybe you can do a lesson on it ?
Thank you for all !
Victorious-Slim that would be awesome. City Slang is a great lost Classic with some tasty playing from Fred Smith.
Great channel 😘👍
Would you consider doing The Cramps version of Faster Pussycat 🤔
Certainly more talking heads. And She Was from Little Creatures or Wild Wild Life from True Stories would be awesome.
Christ yeah!! Blindsided again in the best way.
Can you do some Adrian Belew? Oh wait...
Always preferred the Stop Making Sense live version to the studio album version.
This must be the place
Why is it called double stops? I get double, but why stops?
Stops were presumably the equivalent to fretting in classical music. Though you can play double stops with open strings in classical string instruments.

Jerry Harrison played lead on all the early stuff.
A clean break please
kind of like Funk 49 by joe walsh ….
