No visit to Poland would be complete without a visit to the Hub of steam action that is Wolsztyn. The railway operated a regular daily service with a selection and handful of steam locomotives operated by PKP (Polish State railways or Polskie Koleje Państwowe) on a couple of routes out of Wolsztyn. One to Poznań in particular, one to Zbąszynekto the West and also to Leszno to the SE. The location is like stepping back into the 1960s. The sight and smell of the station was magnificent and general atmosphere. On the 3 days spent in the area Locomotives of the following classes were recorded on tape. SU45, ST43, OL49, (Several) TY45 and a track machine. In the second video of the area filmed just outside of the beautiful town, by the junction in the small hamlet of Adamowo where the line to Poznan flies over the second line from Wolsztyn, heading towards Leszno, a freight service (Then twice daily) hauled by a steam Locomotive is seen coming from the Grodzisk area. A very rare sight then. I set up the camera the following day virtually opposite the busy steam depot with a good view of the mainlines to Poznan and Leszno (In the freezing cold) and captured on film the real atmosphere of the whole place. A much different and harder way of life than we have over in the UK. I expect a lot of change has happened since this film was recorded. I really hope you enjoy this time capsule that we were so fortunate to have observed while in this beautiful and friendly country.
