Sohyang herself has stated that she doesn't want to sing for the fame or fortune and that she sings for God and to comfort others (thus she's rejected many offers of record deals), but she does go on these big Korean singing shows when invited. Most of her famous performances are covers, she's more known for these. If you want to check out her own song, I recommend the DMC Festival version of "Dream." It's the most powerful of her own songs IMO. Of her covers, I'd recommend Whitney's I Have Nothing or South Korea's unofficial anthem Arirang Alone. By the way, this cover you just watched is her only showcasing like 20% of her power. lol

She is an independent artist who has turned down contract offers from the big labels over the years, including Sony, only last year. This performance is from the Korean television program, Begin Again. The title was taken from the 2013 movie by the same name that was really popular in South Korea. The concept of the show is Korean musicians and artists traveling the world "busking" on the street, in town squares, a beach boardwalk, wherever, so in previous seasons they've traveled to Italy, Ireland, Germany, etc. The musicians/artists sing a wide range of songs and it's a joy to hear their reinterpretations, new compositions, collaborations between artists, or how faithful they stay to the original. Due to covid, they couldn't travel, so all the locations in this past season have been in Korea. This location was a very unique place to bring music to people who may not get to see these kinds of performances. The featured artists and musicians who make up the cast may change from season to season, all worth checking out!

This video is from a Korean show called 'Begin Again' where know Korean singers busk throughout the world. Because of COVID-19, for the past season they stayed in Korea and sang in different locations. There are many gems in this show, not just sung by So Hyang but the other singers there such as Lee Hi, Henry, Crush, etc.
So Hyang has an extensive library of songs on TH-cam and Vimeo to react to, most are just as good. She is my favorite vocalist and I never get sick of listening to her. Peace

Due to her fragile health and wanting to maintain her control of her pace, she refused to sign in many major Agencies and she is following her own musical path. Among writting, singing and teaching music, she is also a writer of chlidren novels.

On every episode they are singing in different place. She gave some amazing performances there but all the episodes are fun, specially the last ones. You boys got to watch her performance of 'bridge over troubled water' from the tv show 'immortal songs'. All the info about her been a cancer survivor are all true,her health is still a problem for her but the main reason she isn't famous worldwide,something that her amazing voice surely merit,is quite simply that she is not interested in fame & fortune,she just wants to use her voice to bring comfort to those experiencing difficult times. All the major record companies have tried to sign her bit she has always declined,choosing instead to follow her own path. At heart she is a gospel singer but her vocal technique is of such an amazing standard that it allows her to sing any genre she pleases,even rapping!!!. Her technique is second to none but where she really gets to you is the emotion she puts in to a song & how she's able to tell a story & captivate you from the start,even when she's singing on korean & eng subs aren't available. Dont ever be put of by watching her perform in her native tongue,korean,because I am english & dont understand a word of korean,yet she regularly reduces me to tears when I dont understand the lyrics. Its uncanny really how she sings right to your sole,even in a strange language. Hey guys, you're onto one of the outstanding voices out.there today. She's a gospel singer by training and preference. I think all those years in church gave her the ability to reach right into people's hearts. This was from the TV show Begin Again Korea. The young singers around her were clearly starstruck. Each episode was recorded in a different location with a local audience. There were definitely lots of tears. Check out her covers of Lean On Me, Everyone, and Bridge Over Troubled Waters from the TV show Immortal Songs 2. And if you want to really see her versatility, check out her performance of Day Day which she sang together with all those starstruck young singers, and her Mona Lisa from the show King of Masked Singers (Vimeo version).
Whitney’s agent, Oprah and eventually David Foster who wrote “I have nothing” reached out to her to do a concert together coz they were so impressed by her rendition of it on youtube. If Whitney was alive, they’d probably have sung together by now.

They literally 'busk' every performance.

Great reaction guys to this Korean Angel! Followed her for 8 years now and she still Amazes me! Turned 43 on April 5th. She can sing anything but her roots are as a Gospel singer! She has sung in Churches in over 60 countries!( many times in the USA, mostly in New York and LA areas) She always sings with passion and Soul! She did not sing much before she was 19( a little with her church choir) Her parents separated when she started high school, so her and mom had little money and she was depressed but listening to, Mariah, Whitney and Celine! She said those three, especially Miariah, pulled her through and lifted her up! At 19 she join a band called POS ( a Christian Band) , they had no lead singer so she tried and loved it! Her and the drummer fell in love and Married when she was 20( he was same age) She went for full medical right after marriage! They discovered uterine cancer, she survived but after was unable to have children but her family and especially her husband and his family gave her an enormous amount of support ! She credits Jesus and the marriage for saving her! She Promised to use her voice to praise God and help those who suffer or are depressed, as the 3 Divas had done for her! Since then she has turned down several offers to sign with big record companies! She said God told her she was not ready emotionally and her character was not strong enough in the first 10 years or so! The last 7 or 8 years she has done much more and has been ready for awhile but she still needs to be able to do her Church and Charity work! She is very humble and just someone you want close as a friend! My recommendation would be is another cover of a beautiful song, Love Poem! It is in Korean but has subtitles! One of her own most resent song is Please and is very similar in style and quality to this one but I could not find a video live with English translation! This is song , Love Poem,is done in the building where the cease fire agreement was signed in the DMZ in Korea( back in the early 50s )part of a show she has been part of since last year called, Begin Again Korea! I love listening to Sohyang singing. She is a cancer survivor. She is a devoted Christian and gospel singer. She doesn't go for wealth and fame but to inspire and comfort people with her singing. She turned down overseas contracts offered to her. I only get to know her when she was invited to singing competitions i.e. I am Singer/ Immortal songs 2/ King of mask singer. Best watch her performance on singing competition. Recently, she joined Begin Again Korea which is organised by TV station to go on road show busking during coronavirus period to comfort people.

A suggestion, Gospel? Are you ready for Sohyang’s Gospel music? Check out her performance of Everyone. On Vimeo there is her performance of that song with subtitles. And they are more flexible on copywrite strikes there. This performance was during a tour of singers called BeginAgainKorea the purpose of which was to bring joy and hope to the country during the Pandemic.
As far as Sohyang is concerned she is indeed a cancer survivor, she credits her faith in God to her recovery. She has been scouted by mayor record labels, the most recent was Sony but she turned them-down because she sings to comfort people, to bring hope to people to help them get over rough times, she is a well known children’s book author, vocal coach, music arranger, performer, Christian gospel singer and is indeed the World’s best female singer/technically gifted. Lastly she sings for us, for God, and not for fame.

THE SHOW: This show is called Begin Again which is based on established artists from Korea doing busking. The original show before covid had the artists go to countries like Portugal or Germany to sing on the street and experience what it's like to begin again as an artist and kind of go back to the beginning/roots of being a musician. Because of covid, they did this season in Korea and instead went around to different work places, and areas around Korea to bring some joy and singing to people.

BTW, Whitney's version was a cover. The original is by Dolly Parton, written by her in 1973. Whitney definitely made it her own and Dolly herself said that she didn't know her song could sound that powerful but it is a cover nonetheless. I think it's just one of those songs that's absolutely amazing and when artists take it and pour their souls into it, it has an ability to take on new meanings and emotions. It is art itself.
Sohyang is definitely the biggest superstar you’ve never heard of. A world-class vocalist with the most impeccable techniques. She’s always been a devout Christian which is why she not well known. She had turned down record label deals and have had her farther-in-law manage her career for more than 20 years now.
Fun Fact: Sohyang performed with David Foster, who produced this song for Whitney Houston, a couple years ago at one of his anniversary concerts.

About her leaving the Porter Wagner Tv show to have her own career. And he wouldn’t let her and claimed he made her famous. So she wrote this song as a goodbye and thank you to him. And he accepted.

Yeah, another has the pipes and blessings. First off, So Hyang is my "QUEEN"!! Unless you got the pipes? No kidding another Korean who is a famous KPOP singer is "AILEE" "I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU"!! Too many people's comment is Whitney would be proud!! Excellent cover. Some say the best, but I don't compare, I enjoy both!! There is one I will say is by far the BEST singer in the world. A total and complete level if not more anybody you want to name. His name is "DIMASH", he is from Kazakhstan, he's 26, 27 on May 24. He sings in 12 languages and sings from bass to a D 8 note which is so high it's not even on a piano!! A big joke with him is---COMPOSER: I need a bass-baritone alto tenor countertenor and soprano!! DIMASH: Hold my water!! Start with Dimash singing Lionel Richie's "HELLO" then put in a French song called SOS. You after this will have just scratched his surface. The D 8 note he holds for 5 seconds is in the song "UNFORGETTABLE DAY Gakku Concert" Then there is sinful passion. He can sing any genre and the full scale!!
