Hey Tony! Awesome video as always, um I've seen you use that rod before, what kind of rod are you using?

Jim Werderitch That is a 6'10 Ducket, medium heavy. What's nice is it has a softer tip for a medium heavy rod. Easy to throw and work jerkbaits and lighter plastics with the softer tip but plenty of back bone for good hook sets.

Hey I am in Milwaukee and look at smallmouth fishing in Chicago on Lake Michigan. There are very few smallmouth to be found in Milwaukee. What confuses me if you follow the shoreline from Chicago going north there are smallmouth available at several locations. You are an hour from me and I would rate Chicago an 8 and I would rate Milwaukee a 2 for smallmouth . Any idea what’s different? I would love to be able catch smallmouth on the big lake here in cheesehead land.
Ken Tyler Lake Michigan is really wild as far as what species thrive in certain areas. A lot has to do with the support from stocking programs from the DNR as well as local clubs and organizations. IL receives stocking efforts from the State/DNR but also the IL Smallmouth Alliance and a couple of other smaller clubs. WI is kind of weird with what areas they support. Kenosha and Racine have good Smallmouth populations, Racine also has quite a few Pike. (Diversey in Chicago has a lot of Pike as well) Then Port Washington and north has a great Smallmouth population. Green Bay, Little Sturgeon Bay and Sturgeon Bay all have great Smallies, but also Walleyes and Muskies. It’s rare we see a Walleye or Muskie down this way. The forage base is the same across the board, Gobies, Alewives, Shad, smaller Perch and craws...they just don’t really venture far from their home locations. Now I’ve only fished Milwaukee in the past for Salmon, but that whole area looks like it should be great Smallie water. Rock, deep water and the forage base is there. Unfortunately it just doesn’t seem to support the number and size other locations have.

Most Definitely some great fishing around, Im big in to the muskie now but where i live on the fox has some great flathead catfishing if you ever care to get out. my pb is 46 inches
Esox Outdoors Thats a good one for sure. The Muskies on the Fox are insane. Both the River and the Chain. Been fishing Muskies there for a long long time now. Boat traffic can get nuts but weeks aren't bad. Great numbers and big fish too!

Not anymore. I used to guide on the Fox Chain for Muskies. With tournaments and filming Spot On Fishing it only left me with a little amount of time to go fish for fun. Something had to go and unfortunately I shut down the guide service a few years ago.
Tony I have a question what are your favorite bank spots for near burnham harbor I don’t have a boat and really would like to have a good starting point

DanDaMan Fishing The best shore area for Smallmouth is from the Planetarium all the way to the Shed Aquarium and on into Monroe Harbor. It’s a long walk no doubt but by far the the most productive water you can fish. Tossing Tube Jigs, Drop Shot and a jointed Shad Rap, you’ll catch fish and have a blast. Addicted Angler Actually I did not. Mike Sopocy handed me that jerkbait brand new in the package. I usually run Lucky Craft or the Rapala Balsa X jerkbaits. Great baits with great hooks as is! I was impressed!

Hi tony do u know of any free parking down by the planetarium and the shed , paying 10 bucks an hr for parking is insane and I’m trying to avoid at all costs, any tips ???
DanDaMan Fishing The Planetarium lot has an early bird special. If you park between either 5 or 6am and 9am it’s like $10 or $12 for the day, as long as you get in between these times. You can get the fisherman’s pass from Henry’s. Not sure exact amount, think it’s like $5. There’s 2 or 3 spots on Northerly Island reserved if you have that pass. Otherwise if the meters on the street are open then you have to feed the meter. There’s no free parking that I am aware of close to there unfortunately.

537VIK I wish I could get out there more often. The filming schedule for Spot On and running Muskie Attacker Tackle Co takes up a lot of my time. But ya never know, everybody should have a day off now and then.

I found the small mouth and large mouth fishery on Lake Michigan in 1970 when I was a teen. The average small is was About 4 pounds and my personal best was 7# 2 oz. Caught around old wood dock pilings. Largemouth were in the main lake too but more concentrated in the harbors. They averaged around 4#s and went upwards of 10. My personal best was8# 9oz. Back then, people only fished for perch, rock bass, and smelt. Lakers were occasionally caught. We didn't have camera phones. It was before the internet and personal computers. The only way this fishing was communicated was by mouth and those that knew about the fishery kept their mouths closed. I ran into Al Lindner fishing the "dead lakes" in northern Illinois and we were both taking advantage of the fisheries there although we tossed back most of what we caught. I asked him if he had fished the Chicago lake shore for bass and explained what I had discovered. We both knew that to broadcast that fishery would have killed it. What I saw in this video, I guess made 4 years ago, showed a decline in the smallmouth fishery . yep, you caught one almost 5 pounds and also a 3.5 pound fish, but your average was about 2 pounds. You and others like you, making their living on TH-cam, have hurt the fishery. Not everyone does catch and release. There are a lot of meat fishermen in a city the size of Chicago, and nightcrawlers and crayfish will wipe the excellent fishery out. The yellow perch fishery is a small fraction of what it was because of the addition of browns, and salmon to the lake. I believe the fishery was even closed a number of years ago. In 1970, I caught many perch in the 2-3 pound range, and kept only 1 or 2 for the table. My best was a bit over 4 pounds. It was released. We even caught walleye in the harbors and an occasional musky. Great Lake Musky was a native species. Try to catch one today. I only caught 3 in 8 years of fishing Lake Michigan. The best was 40 inches. It doesn't matter that you release fish on your videos. The promotion of the fishery will destroy it because others will keep the fish they catch. The reality is that tomorrow doesn't matter to you, just what you benefit from today. If you want to help the fishery, teach people how to catch the giant carp and buffalo fish in Lake Michigan. Leave the huge catfish alone. A 25 pound carp will make the fight you had from the large smallie seem like arm wrestling with an infant. Are carp and buffalo not glamorous enough to cover? Catch them on 4# test and a light action rod.
