blessed are those who are not offended by other people's freedom.
I worked in a nursing home setting for years and the number one thing the elderly struggled with most was loss of the ability to get in a car and drive.
That's why car dependency is so insane.
I actually love driving, I love pickups and sports cars.
That's actually part of why I want transportation to be less dependent on cars - less people on the road in my fucking way.
Germany has one of the lowest fatality rates per mile, and yet has highways with no speed limits. America needs to top that shit somehow.
@hellomate639 I live in a very rural area and drive 15 minutes to work all rural country roads with fields. I drive through 3 intersections everyday I know people have died on since about 60 years ago. It can happen anywhere. Still don't agree with less car driving. It's the only way to get to work around here. And it is freedom. I'm a defensive driver, don't trust people with stop signs. I have literally seen semis not stop at stop signs. And locals. Just because it's a rural road doesn't mean not to follow road signs!!! It's infuriating. So just have to really watch and slow down.
@@sonyacarlson5881 Think about it less as "less car driving," and "more convenient destinations that encourage people to gather together and get to know each other."
I'm not anti-car, not at all. I'm pro "build walking, biking, and train infrastructure" on top of having great roads.
Some stores don't need to be in a strip mall, like TJ Max and Target. Stores like Home Depot are better in strip malls with big parking lots.
Basically, anything that can go in a mall can go on a walkable street. We can do better on urban planning design. There's huge room for innovation. We just need to get out of our own way.
Hahahaha!! Society is finally catching on!! Lol! I lived through the 60’s with three little ones in tow. When I finally had a car at my disposal I declared “ this is all the woman’s liberation I need and want! Four wheels that turn!! “. I was a happy gal!!
Also, as a gen Z person who's fed up with the current state of the automotive industry, cars in the '60s were so much better. It was the time when cars had everything I need and nothing more: a big engine that's easy to service, simple mechanics, air conditioning and a radio. I currently drive a 2006 Mazda, sure that car has, in addition to the aforementioned features, a CD player (my dad's left old Guns & Roses, Nirvana, Bon Jovi etc CD's in the car when he passed it down to me, and his new car has Bluetooth) cruise control (which I've never used, my foot can modulate the speed consistently) and ABS (knock on wood, I never needed it yet, I was taught well).
I miss those. I like the car i have now, but it was made to hook up with apple, not android. Tecnology dpeant wprk how it is supposed to . Tho it could be my phone.
One thing not mentioned, you used to be able to fix a car yourself, but now you can't. You must take to the dealer.
Lol 😂 I love this 🌿🙆🏻♀️🥰
My Dad taught my Mum to drive in the 1990s when she was pregnant with baby #5! 😍
That was all the women's lib she needed too.
She kept on driving until she was 80!
A truly dangerous person is not the mischievous brat down the street. It’s a person who looks perfect and acts perfect, yet shows signs of psychosis. Meaning, their kindness is artificial and they wear a mask to hide their true intentions.
Correct: Kindness is fake and they hide their true nefarious intentions
You’re describing someone I know and try to keep my distance from as much as possible. Although, he does like cars. Doesn’t fool me though!
Vulnerability....truth through comedy makes them feel exposed.
As someone who had a brain aneurysm at 19 and lost the ability to drive for a few years…I recently got that privilege back and it’s so freeing to just be able to go❤
That's why making society car dependent is dumb.
Conflating hating car dependence with hating cars is a mistake. Yes, some people hate cars. I love cars and trucks and hate car dependence.
I'm also not a huge fan of EVs as of yet.
I feel for you, and your predicament is exactly why all societies should be constructed such that there are viable alternatives to driving.
Bless you. I am pleased you survived that. I had an aunt who didn't at 38.
I've always been a very independent being and loved coming and going as I pleased. After I was widowed the car insurance, license tags and maintenance became too costly on social security and had to give up my car.
My husband was a homebody, but he enjoyed riding shotgun on weekends. We would drive to the woods or an outdoor swapmeet or just whatever struck my fancy. I really miss him!
I live less than a mile to the market and walk over with a cart. I have friends who give me a ride to church and such. I miss just jumping in the car on a whim whenever I get a "scathingly brilliant idea" for a sewing or garden project. Planning things out in advance takes some of the joy out of doing some things.
I've gotten closer to one of my church friends who is also a widow, but she's a bit reclusive and I've been drawing her a little bit out of her comfort zone. It was a big deal for her to drive me to a farmer's market. She did enjoy it and I was glad to get the fresh fruits and vegetables and a couple of tomato plants.
Anyway, walking and sunshine are very good for this 77 year old body 😊
Yes. all must be carefully arranged. I just hate it. You pass something interesting. but you can’t just hop out of the car and have fun.

Dangerous people are those who have a lust for rules, any and all rules, rules for rules sake. They are attracted to authoritative positions, no matter how small it is.
As a German i have to ask you: was it a deliberate decision to give a perfect description of germanys government?
@@Lucky-tw5oc well the word government means authoritative direction or to control , to rule.. one cannot be surprised by what we got . '' in power ''
Sounds enlightened, but the most dangerous people are usually rule-breakers in one way or another: rapists, murderers, fraudsters, corrupt politicians.
The kind of person you are referring to that has a "lust for rules" (bureaucrats) is annoying, insufferable, and sometimes infuriating, but not necessarily dangerous.
You said rules four times in one sentence, pretty sure that's against the rules.

There should still be a simple car without all the fancy features. With windows that you manually roll up/down. For a low price. Basic reliable transportation.
@@The_Devil_Himself well I know for a fact that Ford F-150’s can come with crank windows, and I know that most sun compact cars can still come with the crank windows if that is what you want. Options like crank windows and other basic stuff like power locks ect…. are ways for automakers to cut a lot of cost off a new car or trucks to make them more affordable for the consumer.
People that are like this, hating comedians, hating automobiles and hating freedom for responsibilities in general, are virtue-signalling narcissists and also can be psychopathic.
You’re just throwing a bunch of buzzwords around you in an embarrassing attempt to sound like JP. I get what you mean, in that, those types of people are bad, and I agree. But please just shut your mouth. That's a stupid, inaccurate statement.

Two dangerous kinds: petty resentful dangerous people; honourable truth-telling dangerous people. The latter usually love cars, welding, pouring concrete and a good laugh.
I appreciate this comment. Not every dangerous person is bad or evil. The good ones are dangerous TO bad and evil people.
Sometimes the "honorable truth tellers" are people who are merely pontificating from a position of good fortune.
There is pride in this, and a lack of love and empathy for those who truly struggle. There's also this victim blaming about it, like everyone who struggles is just morally inferior.
This is equally problematic to the self-victimization. It's just a stupid Satanic circus of pride.

You can tell people who are dangerous because they are people who hate ...
It’s okay to hate some things, some people, some behaviors. Some things/people/behaviors are evil.
Hating evil is okay.
Wrong! Someone who doesn't hate anything is probably spineless and will go along with any horrible thing.
Yes, you’re right. Thankfully, most people who desire mixed-use transportation systems do not hate cars. They just know better than to force everybody to depend on cars for mobility.
That's the great thing about a Ford: it's a vehicle AND a joke, all rolled into one!

The majority of my cars are made from 1946 to 1972. No connection to anybody if I don't want to.
Car is not freedom, most often it is attached to maintenance of the grind
you mistook it. It's freedom because you can use it to go wherever you want, to get what you need, whenever you want, it's like the literal exchange in sacrificing your hedonist times to work for a future
@@aljonserna5598 sure, you can go everywhere with a car, but you don’t always need to go everywhere. If the USA invested more heavily into public transit and walkability instead of bulldozing walkable neighbourhoods to build more highways, you could easily substitute most of your city driving with walking, biking or taking the bus/tram. And all these methods of transit are much cheaper than driving.
Sure, there will always be outliers who live in the middle of nowhere and need to drive 50km both ways to get to work, but millions of people live in cities and other areas that have huge potential to be not car-dependant.

@aljonserna5598 Freedom is the most dangerous concept humanity has conceived of yet. To be truly free is essentially being deposited on a planet all by yourself with all the resource potential you could ever need or want, and being compelled to sort literally everything out for yourself, absolute freedom is not a concept I subscribe to, certain restrictions on freedom actually improve one's life, these things fall under what I call necessary evils, but I do think that the word "necessary" is often overshadowed unfairly by the word "evil"
I don't really hate cars but I do think that public transport has a lot of potential to benefit everyone who can't afford one.
Exactly. Just take a look at Europe, especially a few years back in Germany we had the best public transport there ever was and the people weren't less free, quite the opposite. I like cars, but public transport is the way to go man. It's incredibly beneficial for the poor and the working class, when it's done right.
I think you guys are missing the point. He's not saying that public transportation is bad. All he is saying is that there are people (generally those who want total control over populations) who hate cars because it gives a person the freedom to go wherever they want whenever they want. You can take public transportation, but you rely on THEIR schedule & go to where they determine. There's nothing like being to get in your car and just go, and be able to change your mind if you want, and carry with you all the stuff you want. It's about freedom. With public transportation, you have to go on their schedules and you're limited in many ways.
I want standard transmission back.

The analogy is hilarious 🤣🤣
A truly dangerous person. Is someone who has nothing to lose. No comfort, no standing or no freedom. If you can only gain. You'll pull every move possible. With no thought or care.
Oh really. How can you be dangerous without a car. Are you referring to dangerously close to litigation. To put abusers in their place. I don't think so. Especially when you get threatened by the dangerous psycho who created the situation where you don't have a car.
Power people are the most dangerous evil people around. They can bully and get away with it by doing favors and giving cars to their cohorts. Men help men. God help a woman who gets corralled. That would be me. Very easily exploited. For my intelligence. I saw internet info. Send in the clowns. Send in the Guard/who was my hs friend. Send in the singers, the sports people. What's the matter with this woman. Which actor is available this week. Etc. Etc. I haven't seen my son after he got out of Iraq. He's reducing the walkable cities movement to car haters. I love cars, and I love walkable cities, walking around interesting shops.
If we were less car-dependent, cars wouldn't be so astronomically expensive.
My general proposal is that cars are not mutually exclusive with public transport and bike lanes. I actually think the right public transport frees up the roads, and gets a solid chunk of the slow drivers off the road.

Usually I like Doctor Petersen.
But it is curious how famed and notorious people can say things with total authority with little context of meaning. Anybody who hates something has some kind of trouble if hate comes from a very bad emotional situation. If by hate cars he means “don’t like cars” it is a different thing.
Still these short videos can leave meaning out of context …….
Anyone can comment without context.
Ironically you yourself prove that in your response.
You dont really think this is a %100 black and white stance being expressed here do you? Clearly it was a general, fleeting comment inspired by the context of their conversation.
The weird thing is you know that (or given that its obvious to anyone whose IQ even approaches their shoe size one would hope you know this), and yet you chose to disregard it just to make,..., errr,.... a "point" ?

With a working public transportation network, you can even feel more free. I do not even need to drive, which gives me the freedom to do, what I want, while traveling.
I agree with a lot of Jordan’s points but not about car culture, it really isn’t as ‘free’ as people think… it’s far more reliant on government involvement and incompetency than other methods of urban mobility. Would be willing to sensibly discuss
The issue is you can't really compare a bike with a car. You can go from one side of the US to the other by car. By bike? Sure.. but who would now 😂
Plus with a car you can transport stuff 🤷♂️
The involvement of the government in the car's existence is not the same argument as the exceptional distance one can travel freely with a vehicle by choice.
Their is no other use of transport that is your own private house on wheels, a bike is private but it has no roof and one room for one person
I agree there are genuinely loads of advantages to cars, they can do wonders for people specifically in rural settings among many others, but whether they are an efficient way of moving people around medium to highly densely populated urban areas is a different issue and one on which a lot urban designers agree they just aren’t. Governments have many arbitrary laws about minimum/ maximum parking spaces and specifically design road infrastructure with car and not cycling or pedestrian access in mind, which is in effect shielding car use as a method of travel from the mechanisms and tests of the free market, which im sure you could all agree isn’t exactly freedom? If other transportation methods were given equal consideration by the government then the free market would ultimately prioritise the most efficient method of travel in each specific setting (i.e metro and bike in denser cities, cars in more rural areas and trains between large population centres).
@@sphor1004 it’s very true cars are way better at transportation for material objects however in cities the main flow of goods is the social capita of the people themselves, very few people employed in tertiary or quaternary sectors need to haul huge amounts of objects to their jobs, so using a car to commute everyday clearly isn’t efficient. if they took other forms of transport that took up less unnecessary road space surely the important business deliveries and other personal reasons for car travel would be faster with less traffic?

The automobile is the greatest symbol of Freedom humanity has ever developed. It's moreso than the aircraft, the gun, the computer, the internet, or the smartphone.
Which is why you need a license to use it, kids and the elderly are restricted from using it. You need gas, insurance, roads to be maintained, etc. Nothing freedom about that! Relying on others every step of the way.

Jordan, that's a false dichotomy. Large parts of cities hate cars because of: air pollution, safety of pedestrians and cyclists, and the pedestrians being confined to sidewalks in the busiest parts of those cities.
The bar majority of urban populations have to move to mass transit / walking / cycling, most cars need to go.
