For anyone buying manga in the uk these shops are great: - travelling man: smaller company and great prices, also fast shipping - Blackwells: huge variety and everything is nearly always in stock, plus free shipping - Waterstones: good for in person shopping as they have stores everywhere, but definitely more expensive - Walt’s comic shop Hope this is helpful to someone! 😊
Yaaay, love your videos, they're so cozy 🥰 My collection is growing little by little, and I'm now running into the "I don't have enough space" problem 😅 hope to get it sorted out somehow! I wish I knew that I would dive into collecting manga like that 😂 Also each time I get a new volume, I just move half of my collection around :D Thanks for the video, love from Ukraine ❤
Such wonderful tips! Ahhh! I too wanna collect every manga! But I have to be strict and discipline. I have to keep the series that brings me joy. I recently got back into collecting manga last year. I hadn't read a manga book since 2010. And when I was looking at the bookstore, I was overwhelmed and I wasn't sure what series was good or not. I was interested when you mentioned cheeky brat and I decided to pick it up. I am in love with this series. The story good and the art is stunning. Thank you for that recommendation!
Ooo yay i love these types of videos. Ive got a mix of manga and novels and im always looking to make more space on my shelves when i inevitably get something new.
10:50 that's a good idea! it's much better than us watching you painfully push and fit in everytime you buy a new manga. i'd love to see a organising video!
mine is a somewhat unpopular way of collecting… I learned a little early on that I really only wanted volume 1 of each of the series that I loved. yeah it doesn’t look as cool as other manga collectors cuz none of the volumes look alike, but it allows me to have more space which would otherwise be a waste. if I wanted to keep reading a series I would just read it online lol.
Along with reading online or buying the first few books of a series, I also suggest visiting your local library OwO Some libraries or better than others with their manga stock but they're there for a reason! Especially if you prefer reading physically than digitally :3 💖
I’m a little bit of everything, I have some Junji Ito, some Fujimoto. It’s funny though I don’t have any one piece in English I only have 100 and 106 in Japanese. I think it’s so much room. That being said I have all of Beastars, 1-13 of chainsaw man, 1-4 of fruits basket. I’ve been using my local library a lot. If you’re on a budget and still like reading manga I highly recommend going there too. Libraries manga collections are amazing mine has all of detective Conan.
Perfect once again! I just cleaned my shelf of plush toys for this manga collection I had in my desk drawers and closet. Gon def make more changes and show ya the updates! 🐐
Target occasionally has buy 2 get 1 free books too, along with always selling a bit under MSRP. They don't have much manga in stores but there's a lot on their website (although it's a nightmare to sort through their system). They had the sale last week and I got 3 new volumes of Monthly Girls Nozaki for $18 (MSRP would be $39 new). If you have the money for it, I would always recommend supporting a local small bookstore if you have one near you. I try to when I can afford it, and it feels good. But money can be tight, I understand people going for cheaper options, I do too. Keep an eye out for sales!
Ch.1) Don’t I know it…😄 These days my collection is quality over quantity, but back when I started reading and collecting (almost 25 years ago now) I read almost anything that sounded/looked/appeared even remotely interesting….which is a huge mistake as doing that will drown you in tons of mediocre stuff with the risk of letting manga masterpieces slip unnoticed through your fingers because you’re distracted by the dime-a-dozen others. Don’t do like me, pick series carefully.
If you’re able to, please shop at local small businesses! I’m lucky enough to live in a city with many local book and comic stores that stock manga. I’ve found so many wonderful series there from just browsing or asking employees for recommendations (which I’ll admit I have more luck with at dedicated comic shops).
I was wondering if you could make a video on buying manga directly from Japan...I know it's not very practical but I highly recommend studying the language which would help you read so many more cool mangas that never got translated❤
When I first started buying manga as a pre-teen, I really didn't consider myself as "a collector" or the bunch of manga volumes "a collection". I just kept buying the newest volume of the serieses I was obsessed with and needed to know what happens next. At some point I just realized my hobby had created a proper collection 😄 but I'd say only as an adult I started to consider the worth of the books as a collector. Up until that point, it was just following serieses, just like you follow tv shows.
I have my shelves organized by completed manga/novels and it does help a lot not having to move things around and then I have all of my "active" series on 2-3 shelves that are right near my PC lol now I can always glance at what I need next and can easily reach for them. I also bought a skinner Billy (I don't know what it's real name is, but it's like half the width of a regular Billy bookcase) where I put my taller manga since I don't have many of those. That's my only requirement though when organizing though: if it's complete and if it's tall.
Hi Mangatama! I’m trying to start a manga channel too! I have a few questions for you if you don’t mind answering them! What camera/device do you film your videos on? And Where do you edit your videos?
Nah cuz as someone who started collecting with NO SPACE 😭I definitely don't recommend. Now part of my collection is hidden away in boxes too. But honestly I do love the series I have though I do have some regretful purchases which I might eventually sell just cuz its better they go to people who love the series rather than collecting dust in a corner 💀 But I def recommend that if you want to collect, always be aware of how much space you actually have and based on that determine what you want to collect cuz eventually it will catch up to you.
@@mangatama yeah I was heartbroken. I live in New Zealand and everything is so overpriced in brick and mortar stores and getting anything shipped from the US is usually more expensive than the manga. Book Depository was the best place ever for international manga fans.
there are some bookshelves that are really small or can be put on your desk or even act as storage or like a TV console! do you have access to ikea? There are small Billy bookshelves there! Or you could try a rolling book cart, those are pretty space efficient and can fit a lot of
