A gap between handle and head is functionally unsafe and unacceptable at that price. There should be 100% contact between metal and wood otherwise the force of use will work the head free and next thing you know you have a free flying axe head. And even if you arent going viking anytime soon, for $400+ it should be made right for aesthetics alone.

Beautiful axe shape. I'm currently working on one myself, replicating one from the British museum. They are quite the weapon

Even a heavily armored opponent, it would ring a bell, and from there... !

The danish waraxe as I have seen them in historical detail has a shaft that's bent backwards from the head, supposedly do give more force to the swing and more cuttingpower, most reproductions today has a straight shaft wich in my own opinion doesn't really accomodate the blades form in which the top is far to forward on a straight shaft and would make it more centered around puncturing woth a thrusting motion as you said but not as well suited for cutting (even though it does cut well enough), but that is my opinion and it's free 😁 great video as always 😁

Emil Westgaard Henriksen There are some that bend, yes. They tend to be a bit younger.

Emil Westgaard Henriksen Axes in particular tended to vary greatly in appearance and function. Actually, if I’m not mistaken the bayuex tapestry shows axes with the straight handle and at least one with more of a curved handle as well.

Damn - I have the basic blade profile and whish I'd have known about that one. I had the TH-camr, Medieval Review, review my axe.
And I also love the resonating sound of the blade. :)

Chaosism I saw that review. I like the base model as well.

Ash is a great timber for axes in general. I have many axes and some of the best ones I own, I have made with ash wood.
And I like how you have one of my favorite paintings behind you. +10 pts

Crikey, it seems the weapon is in its perfect form! All the angles look to cover all options you would need.

Dear Sir. Very impressive weapon very well presented. Thank you for sharing your obvious joy about your new favorite weapon. I like it very much too. Because I'm a relatively huge/big MA- Fan for historical reasons and because I'm a relatively huge/big MA- Fan (6 ft 25 inches with a, shoulder width of 2 ft 2 inches) I always wonder about the size of historic weapons. In former times people were smaller and less tall. In my hands a British longbow isn't really a very long bow. ;-) Therefore please allow me a question: Is the length of the war axe handle shown in your video adapted to today's time or maybe even manufactured to fit to your body dimensions? Best regards.

chru cas That is a good question. Unfortunately, there are very few preserved wood hafts from these weapons and I’m not sure there are any that are fully preserved. My guess is that the dimensions are based on artistic representations like the Bayeux Tapestry, for example, and descriptions from the sagas etc... Most of the axes are around shoulder height or shorter in imagery from the time. I’m sure one could ask the maker for a longer haft. Arms and Armor in particular is very good about that.

Thanks for answering. Your guess is my guess too. Nowadays average shoulder height is just more since back then. In former times a 5 ft 75 inches tall knight was very rare and was called very big (prooved by archeology). Fortunately I'm able to change or produce m

Great video. I have a CS Dane axe, with M type head, and found a great leather sheath on etsy which fits it. But since i've ordered this from A&A, I've been searching online and can't find a L type sheath of that size anywhere. I was wandering if you have any ideas?

    • @TheTwilightEmporium
      @TheTwilightEmporium  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Kirk Lazenby Sadly, I do not. I've been considering trying to make a simple one myself. A project in the pipeline. It is possible a custom leather worker might be able to do it if measurements can be provided?

I love it, but I have to admit- for that price I would send it back an make them pay the shipping. I'm not into sloppy Friday jobs and that's not a small correction.. That literally translates to fuck your finish pay me more for my time. I know... I make knives and they take for-ev-er Not a 4 in my opinion. Maybe a 3.5. Still beautiful and potentially art with little elbow grease.Thank you for posting this awesome inspiring death machine.

I'd love to see how it throws. I'd imagine terribly, but that's not what it's built for. For purpose though, it looks pukka.

    • @Chaosism

I wouldn't throw it with that thin blade. It's bendable by hand as it is.
