i got wedding ring given of good lady friend in the uk before i left to get married in cebu back in 2012, could not afford shop prices to get it altered, a guy sat on box on sidewalk did it with tools some would laugh at, his work was nothing less than brilliant, he cut the ring melted the tiny bit of gold made the new join, and i kid you not no one in any jewellers anywhere could have done better job, the skills of people in the philippines will forever amaze me, they work with little or no tools in lots of cases and turn things out that are mind boggling.
That was pretty interesting, good job....I'm back on line now, had some little lady with 70 mph winds kick my butt. Where I live here in the states is a good rehearsal for living in the Ph.
@@AmazingPhilippines1 Hi Sir,actually I don’t miss Zurich 😀😀I’m enjoying here in waterfront hotel eating Filipino food 😂 lol ..I just had my 2nd swab test yesterday ( 7th day ) waiting for the PCR TEST RESULT hopefully by Monday I will have the result ,so I could go to Negros Oriental ..Have a nice Sunday with your family ..
Good video Rod. Sounds like they were trying to make Damascus. It looks like they have good stuff as long as it can be made from a blank or something they can carve a blank out of. I would be interested if they could make Damascus. It doesn't look like they do bronze either. I'm really wanting a bronze age Egyptian short sword, looks like a bow or sicle designed to thrust, slash and particularly, to hook the opponents shield, pull it out of the way so that you can run them through. High technology of the day, like fish glue sinew bows that had be cured for 2 years before you could use them. I like esoteric junk. Perils of military history as a hobby.
These guys can make ya basically anything you want, and they're amazing, quality craftsmen with awesome prices...I'm sure they could make it if they didn't already have it!
@@b80-s9i You realize that Damascus is folded watered {with iron} steel? They often use acid to bring out the grain of the steel. I seriously doubt they have a foundry capable of smelting bronze in quantity. And you wouldn't find a blank large enough to whittle this design out of, it has to be poured.
Got an idea for part 2, hope they would let you video their production area. Would be fascinating to see how they're handmade and hand carved. No plasma cutting, no CNC machine & no 3D printing. Wondering 🤔 if Game of Thrones got their swords from Cebu!
She has a pretty impressive list of customers around the world Ernie. I peeked into the shop and it is pretty ordinary setup but the end product is remarkable.
I would like to know how someone from Arizona is able to come to the Philippines. I live in Arizona and I have a Filipina wife there and I cant get in.....
Wow..I've never heard a man say not to carry a tool for self protection/preservation...well except those looney toons outta California! Awesome pieces the shop has👍
I carry my Leatherman tool around. It has a knife on it. That doesn't mean anyone should though. Maybe a quality "trim trio" with a useful blade would pass.
Thanks for yet another interesting showcase, Rod. Nice knives but unfortunately, they are in the "dirk / dagger" (fixed blade) category and only legal for open-carry in my neck of the woods; folding knives (not switchblades) are kosher to conceal-carry however. I believe carrying a knife is not legal even for PH citizens with some exceptions (i.e. work-related or the like).
@@AmazingPhilippines1 Indeed! Ironically, from what I gathered, one (PH citizen, of course) can conceal-carry a handgun with the proper permits...but not a knife. 😎
Ride this may sound Goofy. But do they make knives for the kitchen meaning steak knives things like that. I can never get a knife that stays Sharp. I would pay good money for a damn good steak knife
@Norris Bethke. I resided on the Island of Cebu with my Filipina wife. To own a firearm legally, like most countries around the world, you must be a citizen of that country. We purchased a handgun for defensive purposes and had that weapon registered in my wife's name as she is a citizen. Hopes this answers your question Norris? Bob.

Very nice craftsman there at that shop. Thanks for the video.

Interesting story Trevor. Thanks for sharing. Very true what Filipinos can do with few tools.
such exquisite merchandise Rod, as others have said; great to see quality craftsmanship

That’s an interesting shop to look around Rod, they have some nice knives there .
Impressive work Brian.

Thanks MrLolligagger. Winds for 6 years in Cebu City have been pretty tame but there are plenty of areas with those risks.
Very cool place, I've got some friends that would be interested in this place. They're into that SCA doing medieval reenactments
I can see how someone might want a knife and sword collection also John.
Excellent. I'm really into blades

I am not sure of all of the details Robert. I know she does some teaching ans training about the trade.
Not that many places around that still do custom work, nice Vlog.
Thanks.
I do love edged weapons. Think I'd see about a Bowie knife with a thick blade
I could see an interesting collection starting also.

Cool video thanks for sharing. Question- how is the new bridge coming along between cebu city and mactan? How many lanes will it be each way?
The bridge is about 75% complete. I will do a video about it soon Scott.
I would like to know how someone from Arizona is able to come to the Philippines. I live in Arizona and I have a Filipina wife there and I cant get in.....
If you're not traveling together it's still difficult to get in, but things are getting better.
At this point restrictions are still tight David. A 9a visa or SRRV retirement visa are options but no guarantees.
Wow..I've never heard a man say not to carry a tool for self protection/preservation...well except those looney toons outta California! Awesome pieces the shop has👍
Thanks b80. Laws here are a bit different.
In Mexico you can go to prison for possession of an unregistered screwdriver.

We were stopped by security at the jmall as his knife was in a thick bubble wrap package. They let him in as he is part owner of a restaurant there.
