  • Sapphires come in more colors than just blue -- the beautiful variety known as Padparadscha is the color of an exquisite lotus blossom or vibrant sunset. Watch Michael cut one with the Ultra Tec V5 into a Portuguese design that really brings out this tiny stone's magnificent color!

Nice video, Mike. The Portuguese cut on that small stone was very impressive. Thanks for sharing your work.

Wow , i like all the info you put in mike about the gem materials you cut, a lot of work too. The stone came out great, that is very hard to cut at that size. The video quality is excellent.

Thanks Brent. Yes, I avoided small stones for a very long time. But a wiser and better cutter than I am told me that I should cut a few small stones, just to gain the experience. He was right.

Do you have a separate Batt lap for every diamond gage, ie. 3,000, 8,000 14,000 and 60,000 or can they be cleaned and diamond polishing gages changed as you go? Doug

I know am awesome gem cutter who uses one batt lap and cleans it for other grits with no problems. Also, you can use both sides of a Batt Lap so you could use 2 laps for 4 grits. Yes, in my case I use one Batt for each of the grits you mention. In my case I only use one side.
