I bought the Brio 4K because it had Windows Hello, but was so disappointed in the picture quality I returned it. I didn't know there would be a successor, and looks like you can tune the image to look ok in the MX Brio, but the fact that this does not have Windows Hello is even more disappointing. I also have the Sony A7IV which is great as a webcam, but overkill for the casual meetings I participate in. I’ve found the Anker C200 to be perfect, good picture quality and the FOV option is so nice to frame the picture. I love the Windows Hello capabilites in the original, but the Windows team has changed Windows Hello Auth to Enhanced Sign-in Security, which uses Virtual Secure Mode to store secrets outside of Windows in a hypervisor container. It means that IR camera peripherals in that model are closer to the metal and not USB connected. So in cases where ESS is available, you actually need to disable it to use a USB camera. That probably contributes to the decision, hopefully the context is helpful.
I'm on the same boat regarding Windows Hello. Such a let down really to release an enhanced webcam version which ticks all the boxes regarding image quality and fine-tuning options etc, but to remove something so useful as a face biometric authentication capability in 2024, especially on that price tag!
Fun fact - you’ll get the best performance with the cameras “native ISO” rather than just the lowest value. For example, some digital camera’s native ISO without gain is 800, so even a 400 or 200 is stepping down the gain on the sensor. Most notably effects the color.
I'd missed this new video from you. A very interesting comparison. It looks like they've fixed a lot of the image weaknesses from the older model. Plus it's tuning to a better image, with what looks like less work. The old brio was tempting but expensive. The new one looks better. Will have to see what the UK pricing does. Of course this might be a cheap time to grab the old model! PS: it's still weird they sell these as two different models, even if the management app and software bundle is different. The old pair was very confusing as to which to buy for best value.
Thank you! I'm using a Sony a6400 now with Viltrox 23mm F1.4 AF lens. My Sony ZV-E10 suffered a fatal shutter freeze issue after 2+ years of 10-hour daily use, and I just got this camera to replace it.
@@KlemensKolloverja-vm2hh I like them both to be honest. I went with the a6400, because my ZV-E10 shutter issue bricked my camera after 2 years and ~6000 hours of hard use. I have an a5000 and a5100 that have been perfect for 4 years with no issues, so I went with something more similar to those as the replacement.
Thanks for your comment. Both are good and create sharp images. The MX Brio has the edge in terms of default and tuned images - especially for color balance. The hardware of the MX Brio is nicer. The software for the MX Brio is also improved. Original BRIO 4K does have Windows Hello support (MX Brio does not support Windows Hello) and is currently less expensive than the MX Brio. The real answer like many things where price and major feature set isn't equal is "it depends." I'd personally buy the MX Brio over the Brio 4k and most other static, non gimbal webcams out right now.

But I think it's time to update because I would like to use Camtasia to record the screen and record a video of me presenting for some businesses I deal with. And surprise surprise, I'm looking at the two options you have compared. Now this might sound silly but with these new WebCams you can choose the resolution and frame rate. How do you know which one to choose? I'm not expecting you to answer this here as it's probably detailed but if you could point me in the right direction, that would be a greatly appreciated
I'll try to answer that. I tend to choose 1920x1080 at 60 frames per second. 4k on webcams doesn't really "look 4k" with indoor lighting at least. Both will do that, and the C920 will not. It's also easier and faster to edit 1080p60 on a normal computer.
Also, it's a little bit more effort to set up, but I recommend using OBS (it's free and I have a video explaining first time setup) to do the camera and audio recording, also a separate microphone if you don't already have one, and at least a 12" ring light if you only have overhead lighting now

There's no right or wrong answer to this. I think so if your lighting and audio is dialed in (I'd recommend something like the Hollyland Lark M2 for wireless lapel microphone and did a video on it). Some will want a RED cinema camera and to film at studio levels.
I don't have the Facecam Pro, but I just got the Facecam Mk2 and it's really good once you dial in the image at 1080 60. I'm building a comparison with it now and the MX Brio at 1080p 60fps. I'm rarely impressed by 4k in webcams, so I think it's a fair comparison. Both have great software controls now, too.

Overhead lighting only will produce a dark image or if you have a bright light source behind you, like a window during the day. My Brio 500 doesn't have any underexposure issues in settings, the autoexposure was pretty good. That is normally the next thing to try as you troubleshoot a dark (or bright) image.
Ah. I ran a $25 12 inch no name USB powered ring light during the pandemic and it was perfect. In some ways (wifi from the Elgato is glitchy) I preferred it. Just set it a little off center to your face and adjust. Get a diffuser for another $40 or so later if you see rings in your eyes.

I don't have the Facecam Pro, but I just got the Facecam Mk2 and it's really good once you dial in the image at 1080 60. I'm building a comparison with it now and the MX Brio at 1080p 60fps. I'm rarely impressed by 4k in webcams, so I think it's a fair comparison. Both have great software controls now, too.
