Who made the decision not to expand into automotive?? Credits are often not given to disasters avoided. Kubota got their start recognizing the market place niche. Cat Deere , etc all made regular sized tractors or large ones for mega farms. But in many parts of Asia, even North America, there are smaller farms that a regular tractor just not suitable for the job. Same as in construction and mining, you need huge equipment to move a lot of dirt. But the smaller contractor that just have to dig a 50 foot ditch were ignored, Kubota filled that niche. They were one of the first to have a small excavator. and small diesel generator , too small to interest Caterpillar.

Very much the seppo view. My father bought a walk behind new rotary hoe in 1972. Model kf with a kndr70 motor. Shortly after they were importing small kubota tractors into austalia. Sort of like an upgrade on the walk behind machines. A couple of years later they redesigned the small tractor into the b6000. this machine was a shrunken version of the tractors coming out of the uk. A small version of 3 point linkage on a tractor suitable for japanese rice paddies. In the mid 1970s kubota entered the US market and acquired a 15% market share in the US market when the market was shrinking and US manufacturers were going broke. The US did not see them coming. I still have a KF walk behind, RV90 written off in a fire and a B7100 4x4 ex rice japan rice paddy. Always amased at the quality of design and engineering of these machines. I have been a fan since 1972.

I've never heard of a walk behind rotary hoe. Here they're called walk behind tillers. I have a Kubota at70 tiller I still use every year in the garden. I agree it is built heavy duty. Still starts on the first pull of the rope. Excellent machine.

I was an orange guy, sold most of my Kubota machines, they just cost to much to maintain. Better options out there that are lower maintenance.

I believe Kubota is orange. How is it that all these AG manufacturers avoided a billion dollar hit?
