  • Harley Davidson Rules the US Market so why does everyone bash them as a hobby. In this video while out riding my Harley I review the "WHY's" that I continue to hear from people that have Harley Davidson and other motorcycles. Why do you bash Harley or do you believe they are great motorcycles like so many?

When Michael Parks pulled up to that stop light on the Sportster in the first episode of "Then Came Bronson" on March 24, 1969, I decided right then and there that one day I would have a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. It took 51 years, 3 Yamahas and 1 Honda, but on Labor Day 2020, I went to the local dealer determined to bring home the HD that I had wanted since I was a kid, and that's exactly what I did. I didn't do it to be part of a club, or because everyone told me that's what I needed to do. I did it because I made that decision 51 years ago, and was finally able to make it happen. Mission accomplished.

I've been riding Harley-Davidsons for 40 years. They're heavy-duty, incredibly tough and premium quality. I put on 15k+ a year. And after all these years when I climb on and hit the start button it thrills me to my core. I maybe 69 but riding that bike is like entering the fountain of youth and it speaks to me, "Come on Big Boy, let's ride."
F**k the jealous little harley bashers.

Great discussion, bought my first Harley in 1975 (Superglide) because of the style, sound, culture, and how they have always stirred my soul. Now I'm on a 2021 Tri Glide and loving it. I still have the same smile on my face every time I start it or walk away from it in my garage! True motorcyclists don't worry about the brand, it should be about the joy of the ride! 😎😎

I bought my first Harley in 2010 and it was because I saw a Road King that I literally fell in love with. Prior to seeing the Road King I had decided to buy a Kawasaki (to save money). But when I saw the Road King I had to have it. I have bought a total of four Harleys and have never been dissatisfied with the bikes or any of my dealership experiences. I live in eastern central Florida near Daytona…… me and my girl came down here 13 years ago with a sport bike (Suzuki) ….. probably 80% of the bikes you see on the road are Harleys.
I was bouncing around the thought of getting a Harley, something a bit roomier for her on the back
2011 Dad offered me his 2002 Goldwing 1800 ….. what a machine !!!!! Absolutely a pleasure to ride , fast , smooth, comfortable for both of us ….. maybe 2+ years ago I bought an 07 ultra classic with 21k on the clock , almost a flawless bike …. I freaking love that Harley ….. so much fun to ride , TORQUE in every rpm range … loud exhaust … and honestly I think it’s just as comfortable as the Wing …… my girl likes both bike as well but says the Wing has a little more room for her and a bit more smoother on the crappy roads …. Non the less I’m stoked to be able to own both these machines and have no issues with whatever anyone wants to ride …. I wave to everyone…. It’s about getting out on the open road , throw all your worries aside and have fun , meet new people who enjoy the same thing …. Just getting out there and making memories….. nothing in this world is perfect, bikes have issues .. that’s life , just deal with it and move on ….. even my Goldwing has had issues….. my Harley too …. It’s about the ride NOT necessarily about what you ride Keep the shiny side up and enjoy and most importantly be safe out there

I would miss the HOG group. Great rides, trips, rallys. I really enjoy this group of people. All like minded people that just wanna ride. I wanted a Harley all my life since I was a old enough to know what a Harley was. I think there is nothing like the sound, the look, and the torque of a big Harley twin. The reason I searched for why Harley bashing. I asked a guy at a convention this weekend what kind of bike he rode. He said a Goldwing and immediately started bashing Harley's. If you ask a Harley guy what kind of bike he rides he will say a Road King or a Street Glide etc. Harley owners don't seem to have a need to bash other bike brands. I've road a Goldwing but there is nothing like the feel of my Harley. I have an old 2001 Road King. I finally got my Harley. I love riding it. I own an auto repair shop. I put an external Alternator kit on my landlords Goldwing because the alternator is inside the engine and its a major amount of labor to replace it. My landlord said after the second time his alternator went out he decided to get the external automotive alternator kit for his Goldwing. There goes the Goldwing claim that they are maintenance free.

I went to the HD 120th anniversary last month. As much as I love my Road Glide Ultra, and riding with my buddies, I was disappointed that at the concert venues they were not even flying an American flag. Thanks for responding! The flag issue itself was just an example of what our HOG group thought was a lack of honoring Harley's core constituency. Many in our group are veterans or first responders. We've also seen a lot of veterans at the HOG rallies we've attended as well. Our group seemed a little soured by Harley not doing more to recognize those groups at the 120th anniversary. We all still love to ride and have many thousands of miles riding each year. I don't see that changing. Harley is still a great company, it just needs to honor it's American heritage a little more.

I’ve owned several HDs. Started with a Sportster, had a Low Rider, Fat Bob and 2 Road Glides. I’m still a fan of the brand but my riding style requires more lean angle. I’ve since been on Triumph, BMW or Ducati.
I was actually going to buy a Road Glide Special in late ‘22 until I found out the dealer was throwing in markups. It kinda stuck with me that they didn’t call that out until asking multiple times for a detailed breakdown of the out the door price. I also considered a Pan Am but then there were pricing games or interest rate games depending on the dealer.
Got fed up and spent less money on a more advanced bike and bought a 2023 Multi. Had a great deal done in less than 24 hours. Honestly I’m a Ducati fanboy too. So in my case it was the dealership experience that drove me away.
Now that HD has announced the new CVO’s I may try again for another RG before that design and engine makes its way to the lower trims. I’ve since talked to friends and have some good contacts at HD dealers so I’ll probably try again.
Why? I’m an HD fanboy myself and think I’ve had my fill of fast bikes and extreme lean angles. I want another Hog and enjoy that riding experience that you get with them.

@@BoDean52 I have noticed a big difference in how I’m treated by Harley riders. It wasn’t that long ago that I would get waves from Harley riders maybe 10% of the time, now it’s up to least 80%, probably more. I have a story to tell about an incident, too long to put here, but it seems like riders are much more accepting of other riders, no matter the bike, than just a few years ago. I sometimes wonder if that doesn’t have something to do with TH-cam….

I got my first HD 35 years ago, right around the time they got the license to print money. Next came the waiting lists, then the dealers' kiss-my-ass-you're-not-a-RUB-boomer vibe. I finally saved up and waited for a new FLH Ultra. Just 300 miles in, the electrical system left me stranded on the highway at night in the rain. By 2002, I was done.

Some guys get upset by the price of Harleys, or the feel they weren’t made to feel “special” when dealing on a used or new Harley. 🤷‍♂️
It’s all up to individual on what bike they buy.
Personally after owning other bike brands, there is no other feeling of being part of a culture larger than the Harley Davidson Culture (call me stupid) but I had other bike brands….the feeling is not the same.

I got lucky because the Judge owned a Panhead and dropped all the charges. I still have that idiots front tooth as a souvenir. I work on it myself and I've customized it to look somewhat like a 50s FL. I keep it as clean as possible and I'm always confident it won't leave me stranded. I don't trailer Red, I ride it everywhere. I just finished a 4500 mile trip on it a couple days ago and spent two days on maintenence and cleaning afterwards. To me, Harley riders are your brothers and sisters. I find the ones that accuse Harley riders of bashing other rides, are the ones doing the bashing. Mostly though, because they just don't know Harley.
For example, I had one (Yamaha) rider bashing Harley because they didn't have a variety of colors. Got on my phone and looked at the Yamaha website. For the Roadstar, they had 3 choices of colors. Now to the Harley website. For the Heritage, there were about 12 color choices.
    1. I bought my 1st Harley for build quality. My Yamaha's wiring was bullet connectors. The Harley was automotive connectors.
    2. Looks/Style
    3. Dealer network
    4. Nothing sounds like a Harley.
    5. So many customization choices.

Most of the people complaining about Harley these days are complaining about the dealereships . The price gouging and the surcharges and the other shady practices that some go in for. I love my bike and have modified it to suit me but stock it came with suspension and a saddle that were not that good compared with the competition which for the price it should have.

I don’t have a Harley I have a Triumph. I looked at Harley first, took a test ride and talked cost. Harley, Indian and Triumph were all under the same dealership so I looked at Triumph and took a test ride. It fit me better and was easier to manage moving around. But the deciding factor was the Triumph cost just over half of what the Harley cost.
I still watch you and many other Harley owners videos and if I find a good deal on a good used Harley I might still own one. It would be one like Duchess.

Let me start by saying people should ride what is right for them and not because of what other people say. I know the metric bike sean very well and I rode those bikes for around fourty years before I bought my first Harley. I own a collection of bikes from harleys to metric bikes today. I find them all enjoyable and can say other than the way they make you feel in your soul, they have never given me any trouble. For me there is something special about the riding experience that a Harley Davidson motorcycle gives me that no other brand has. I do think they look cool and that Harley sound is a game changer. The other bikes I have I love for other reasons. My favorite big four bike that I absolutely love is my 2007 Yamaha FJR 1300. What a fun ride. 🏍️

I own a 22 low rider st and the amount of from factory failures of various types is beyond atrocious and that's just one single model. Expand that over their entire lineup and it must me truly staggering. Add the fact they're beyond the curve in technology compared to other makers, that doesn't help either.

Harley really needs to think about putting reverse on their touring bikes that weighs over 800 lbs. As riders get older, they, like myself, will trade their touring bikes in for a softail's. One reason is, they don't do any long touring anymore and the weight of the bikes. Reverse would be great for backing them up, which would be a lot easier to live with. If I have to go to a trike, I would rather quit riding. I'd buy a nice little convertible sports car. 69 now and plan to ride for the rest of my life. I was riding on a Harley when I was in diapers.

I'm not so sure there is a lot of Harley Davidson brand bashing. I think it is more Owner/Rider bashing. I started my riding career on dirt bikes, then on to crotch rockets when younger and dumber (in my case anyway) of course. Then my dad offered me his 2006 Honda VTX 1300r and for me to give up my Yamaha R1. Rode the VTX for a number of years and just recently bought a 2017 Ultra Limited with 36,000 miles on it. I fell in love with the comfort (it has an upgraded seat) and power. When I said Owner/Rider bashing, I witnessed it all those years on other versions or brands from the HD group. It's like they were "better" folk than those of us that weren't riding HD. Not saying it was all HD riders, but it was the majority I witnessed. For me its about the ride not the brand, not everyone can or wants to spend the amount needed to get into the "club". I'd like to see all riders get along and enjoy the ride. Please don't the the HD snob out there on the road and "wave" to everyone and don't talk down to someone that hasn't yet acquired the "status symbol" you see HD for. Enjoy the ride on whatever you have to ride today & be safe out there boys and girls!

  • @moose3971
    @moose3971 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hmm. Well, for me I wanted something with more power and speed out of the box. Along with more lean angle. However, I can’t bash HD because of its lean angle. It’s not that kind of bike. However, I feel they shouldn’t limit the motorcycles performance the way they do. It’s not because of emissions either. Since they can produce the CVO and add ons to make it snappier. I think they need to stop and look at their power plant. The air cooled engine is not as forgiving when it comes to adding horse power. At least not without burning ya! Lol. They do have a great iconic look. They are a true representation of what a motorcycle should look like. But, they need to change how they go after nickel and diming their customers so they can get their motorcycle to peak performance, without having to spend 50k on a CVO or thousands on a stage kit. Good bike? Yeah. Perfect? No. But their really isn’t a perfect bike. Pick what you want, ride it, enjoy it. Take what others say with a grain of salt. And if you are like me, look to piss off everyone. Just to get a rise! Lol. Enjoy!!

However, I rode my 2012 Ultra 750 miles yesterday from Peoria, IL to Lansing, MI and the front shifter lever failed [common issue] and my stock suspension bottomed out in a spine crushing impact multiple times. Do I need to invest 3k in a better seat and suspension or should I look at BMW, Kawasaki, Indian, Etc. This Harley is beautiful but it sure has been a money pit...

@BoDean52 No words of wwisdom? Just bite the bullet and buy the suspension as you will lose that much and more and lose all the customization on your Ultra? I have true duals, Stage 2 and custom rims.... or go buy X, as they are known to have the best stock suspension...

I purchase Harley-Davidson motorcycles because they are premium machines, and have the look, feel, style, tech & engineering which appeals to me. Currently I own an anniversary issue (2003) Heritage Springer Softail, and a modern anniversary issue (2023) Pan America Special. They are night & day different from each other, but they are both premium bikes with great tech, engineering, styling, look & feel.

I absolutely love the Pan America. Its a little bit street fighter, little bit cafe racer, little bit sport cruiser, little bit touring, little bit off-road... this bike does it all, has great tech, and on top of everything else, is comfortable (adaptive ride height, and dynamic customizable suspension).

When I bought my first Harley, I bought it as it was the only American motorcycle being made at the time. The Gilroy Indian had come and gone. I could have bought any brand of bike, but I wanted an American motorcycle, so HD it was! I'm still on a HD. Would I consider a Polaris Indian, maybe someday but I do like my HD!

No matter what bike I've owned over the years, there has always been naysayers. Those naysayers have never owned those bikes or brands, yet they feel entitled to express nonsensical points just to feed their ego. There is an easy fix for it, which only costs a few dollars ... a set of earplugs! They can say whatever they like, call me all the names under the sun because I won't respond and all I can do is remain silent & smile back at them. I'm glad I'm not like those guys.

Everyone that owns any model of motorcycle will complain about something about the brand you bought. You should have seen the blood bath Honda took when the new Goldwing model came out in 2018. Wow you would have thought the apocalypse happened. Get the bike that fits what you want and can afford. My own HD experience has not been the best as you know.

It all comes down to respect. Some people are either assholes or getting high on copium.
My cousin wants a harley so bad but wont admit it to anyone but his dad. (Daddy pays for everything...my cousin is 39...) so im dealing with a man child who HAS to talk shit about HD to cope for not having one. I find most haters are just coping for not having one. Its one thing if you had bad experiences with HD like i did with kawasaki. But its another if youve never owned one and just follow herd like sheep hating on HD. When I started riding in the early 80s AMF own Harley Davison. They were complete junk. They shook really bad. They leaked oil everywhere. My old boss was a big Harley guy and said 10 years same bikes. At that time I owned a Honda 450 nighthawk. My reply was, do you think that things gonna last 10 years? He couldn’t keep it out of the shop. The dealer is getting rich. Things have changed. When the workers bought it back, they made a bike worth having. Over priced maybe. Cost of ownership really high definitely. Especially compared to mine Honda Rebel 1100 or my Kawasaki voyager. Both are 2022. $150 or less at the dealer for service. One of these days I’ll probably buy a Harley breakout. I love the bike. If I was to find a dealer close that had one a would probably be divorced. It is a sexy machine!

For a late model year "touring" Harley I was looking at $3-5k more than a comparable Goldwing. The worst part is, I was looking at having drop many $1000's more after the sale to get the Harleys "set-up". The Harleys and Indians do have the looks and a coolness factor. But at my age, I just don't care that much, I'd rather get more bike for my money. Plus... there's that "holy shit! this is good" thing once you ride a new gen. Wing 😎
