Wow, I can’t believe I never thought of the term “uplifting emo”, that so perfectly describes what I try to make. What a gift this was! I’m honored to be featured and I’m very grateful for your graciousness in your observations. Thanks for your art!
what's cool about Alex is he doesn't just add guitars and double time drums. He re arranges songs and you feel like it's a multiverse thing. The original was a "drop everything and Rock out" song with my college roomate. We recreated it at my wedding even!
I discovered Alex Melton during this past year. He's brilliant! I love his covers, and it helps that I like that style. Hearing Alex's covers is actually inspiring, because I hear what one can do with different arrangements. Really cool!
So happy that you are giving Alex work some attention. He is one of my fav youtube artist. Dude is talented as hell and his covers, i mean his versions of the songs are amazing.
Alex melton is in my top 10 Spotify artists last year, for a person who has over 1000 artist and 18000 songs played.. that’s pretty impressive. He is amazing. Also, love you Justin, you have a ton of hits in my life.
So cool to see this reaction. Been a fan of Alex for a few years now. His covers are consistently well thought out, exceptionally produced, and performed. Two of my fave YTers together. Love it.
“Just missed it…” at the end haha. Love your music and these videos are awesome, hearing a true artist talk about all the intricacies of their own song reimagined is really cool.
The fact that my eldest turns 21 as well means I was not into the music scene and totally discovered The Darkness at Oceans Calling this year. They made my 2024 Spotify Wrapped ❤️❤️❤️
Whether you think you're old or not, you're right! Seriously tho my dad is 68 and he acts and functions like he's 45. And I know some people who are barely 50 and act like they're 85. It's ridiculous!
I have said it many times before, but this Song/Riff is the BEST Rock riff from the past 20 years BY FAR, and I will fight anyone who disagrees. Playing this riff/Solo(s) always de-stresses me. Thanks Justin for the great content/music.
Justin, the new song is an instant GRAND SLAM. The new album is my most looked forward too album for quite some time. & The longest kiss was easily my favorite song of the year. ❤🤘
I do love the conversational style of your videos, but also I never fail to be impressed by casual displays of musical knowledge (whether instrumental or singing technique). Lovely stuff.
Alex Melton is insanely talented. I have a Spotify playlist that I only ever maintain 100 songs on (one has to die to add a new one) and his hero/heroine worship cover has been on there since he added it.
I’ve never heard of Alex Melton, but I appreciate hearing another take on a song I love - and an interpretation by the original artist, no less! Thanks Justin!
Alex melton is a boss 😂 I love all his emoify covers but some of my favourites are his blink 182 country covers ❤ This one is great though, awesome to see your take on his work.
Anyone who has the NERVE to ask you that one-hit-wonder BS question clearly doesn’t know much about you or music in general! Hope you are going to get to relax for a bit with the family😻💕🎄
Obstinate ostinatos. Love them. This Alex Melton fellow really did the original great justice. That must feel really great, Justin. I cried when a band covered one of our songs, and I'm not a crier. This is indeed fun emo, not the navel gazing hopelessness of a band like August Is Falling, for instance. I'm a total dunce at re-arranging songs. I can bust rhymes all day, lol, but my idea of turning "Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman" into a 60's lounge singer song is harder than I expected.
I'm not here to make anyone simpathy or to create a circle of hugs.. i'm really talking from my core and what i really think of this band. This band never had a non hit album. I found albums even more recent way more explorative joyful and with really amazing songs.. then permission to land or one way ticket. You have to appreciate this guys work or even listen before throwing a judgment on the table.. that's all
I am back your inconsequential rival, nice little version of your song, covers are great, making a cover your own way and putting your imprint on it is awesome. "Dreams on Toast" eh? March 2025 eh?...well I should be able to get my album out first ...so take that you...you....you Human Being!!! I really got to work on this riival thing.
I subscribe to both of you with my personal account, but somehow, my public account's suggested videos are moving away from the true crime genre I work into my other love: musicians who talk about music and create hit songs in a different genre than the original. Alex is one of the best at doing this. I love this video and I had the widest smile on my face throughout the whole thing. Thanks for being a good sport, Justin. I wish more artists could appreciate someone doing a cover of their song like how Alex does and comment in kind.
Very cool to see this reaction. I've heard of few things of Alex Melton's before and I like how he puts his own emo spin on songs. Somehow it always seems to work. 😅
When you think about UK singles chart one-hit wonders, it seems bittersweet that Chesney Hawkes got number one with 'The One and Only' and The Darkness got to number two with 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love'. Pop rock daylight robbery, if you ask me. The trouble with being a one-hit wonder is that often nobody will recognize you in the street years later, but they will instantly recognize the one-hit song. A prime example being Norman Greenbaum, who had a one-hit wonder with 'Spirit in the Sky'.
I always love hearing people put different genre takes on beloved music tracks, though I'm partial to Bardcore being a renfaire goofball. Alex Melton seems like a top tier bloke.

awesome cover..
Its great to see you getting more recognition 🤘🏻
Kudos on playing it all; killer strings, sticks, vocals, and mix.
Alex you are a legend. When I saw you did this cover I sent it to Justin to do this review of you. Legends!
Nice cover
Alex Melton is one of the best content creators on TH-cam. The guy deserves every plaudit he receives.
Super cool to see Alex get the love he deserves. He's a massive inspiration to a lot of people in this space.
Great reaction.
"Mmm! Saucy Voice" compliment from Justin Hawkins is probably the best compliment you can receive. So chuffed for Alex :D
Love that you did this. Alex Melton is so talented. His version of "Fast Car" is so good. And his way of making songs "blinkified" is so fun.
Alex is a supreme talent, I am constantly amazed by his work. So glad you appreciated his interpretation. Yay!
Alex Melton is a genius. I’d love to see the two of you perform together!
what's cool about Alex is he doesn't just add guitars and double time drums. He re arranges songs and you feel like it's a multiverse thing.

Is that time of year where we come together to celebrate the best Christmas song ever. Justin you’re a legend, may we never see the bells end.
Melton is brilliant. His versions bring deep cuts back to the surface!
So happy that you are giving Alex work some attention. He is one of my fav youtube artist. Dude is talented as hell and his covers, i mean his versions of the songs are amazing.

Been following Alex on TH-cam for years now. His gospel style covers are amazing too.
“Just missed it…” at the end haha. Love your music and these videos are awesome, hearing a true artist talk about all the intricacies of their own song reimagined is really cool.
Didn't know about this channel, but even Justin's speaking tone is easy to listen to. Love it!
One hit is more hits than 99.9% of musicians ever have. And, there's still time for more hits.
Very very true. 🎉
Yesssssss!!! LOVE Alex Melton and LOVE The Darkness - amazing world collision! 🥳
Love the show, longtime listener, absolutely Love Alex, he's a fabulously talented musician.
Glad I replied to the comment on Alex Melton's video saying they can't wait for the reaction video, someone replied that Justin had uploaded one 😊
It has not been 21 years since you put out "Thing called love". I refuse to believe I'm old
The fact that my eldest turns 21 as well means I was not into the music scene and totally discovered The Darkness at Oceans Calling this year. They made my 2024 Spotify Wrapped ❤️❤️❤️
Whether you think you're old or not, you're right! Seriously tho my dad is 68 and he acts and functions like he's 45. And I know some people who are barely 50 and act like they're 85. It's ridiculous!
I was 19/20 when this song came out, I was into the heaviest metal I could find and I hated this song. At the age of 41, this song is fantastic!
@Xzanthos dude I just can't believe it was 2003 when that song came out. I honestly thought it was like 2008ish
We are..weee arrrrre
Alex is such a fantastic musician, love all his stuff. Thanks for the reaction
You, dear Justin, are anything but a one hit wonder. You're blessed with many wonderful hits! Every album has been great!
Also even if he was, it's better to be a one hit wonder than a None hit Nobody!
Alex always delivers, hes a great musician, but his arrangements are always top notch.
I do love the conversational style of your videos, but also I never fail to be impressed by casual displays of musical knowledge (whether instrumental or singing technique). Lovely stuff.

Love Alex Meltons covers, always puts his own spin on things
the first reaction that was actually worth watching, super interesting takes
Justin Hawkins being visibly giddy 5 seconds into an Alex Melton cover is everything.
13:33 Is love an emotion? I thought it was only a feeling...
Imagine if you were in your hotel room then suddenly hear Justin start recording his podcast next door 😅🤘🏻
I'm not counting so-called hits.
I like the honesty and Justins obvious enormous charisma.
Hey! You found Alex! This is awesome! He’s a great performer! Nice one Justin! ❤
Your song, always one of my favourites. One of my favourite guitar solos impossible vocal range. You’re a champion sir. Make us some more!!!
I always love when two channels I subscribe to have an unexpected collaboration.
Yes!! This happened me too!
I've been listening to Alex for just over a year and I love his stuff. he's such a great musician/producer. great to see you checking him out.
Love Alex’s. Videos Panic at the disco country style is my fave
Great version. Justin your a legend glad your not up yourself down to earth fella and you were gracious in your appraisal.
Love is only a feeling is the #1 hit imo if u had to pick
liked before watching, the cross over we all needed!
Alex's covers are absolutely fantastic.
I’ve never heard of Alex Melton, but I appreciate hearing another take on a song I love - and an interpretation by the original artist, no less! Thanks Justin!
I've heard of his YT channel and shorts, he's done tons of rehashed versions of popular songs and it's really cool!
Ahh this is the greatest!! Two of my favorites in one video. So stoked for Alex and brilliant content as always by Justin
Finally this guy is getting noticed, he's so good.
Better than i expected. Fun factor elevates this rendition. Cheers
Made my morning seeing you and Rufus on Sunday brunch Justin. Plimsoll was a nice touch.
Looking forward to this one. I came across Alex’s channel a couple of years ago. He’s great.
Thank you, Alex only puts out the best stuff.
Justin Fucking Hawkins Rides Againnnnnnn! 🎸🎶🎶🎶
alex is very talented when it comes to his covers you can tell that there a labor of love and not a cash grab
This was a delight. Cheers!
Alex melton is a boss 😂 I love all his emoify covers but some of my favourites are his blink 182 country covers ❤
This one is great though, awesome to see your take on his work.
100% agree, 2 hits! (My favourite song was neither of them, “Growing on me” was and is my Jam! 😂)
Anyone who has the NERVE to ask you that one-hit-wonder BS question clearly doesn’t know much about you or music in general! Hope you are going to get to relax for a bit with the family😻💕🎄
I was waiting for this
Fuck yeah, Alex Melton is a BEAST.
You should check out far more of his work, he's incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist and singer.
I’ve followed Alex for along time now (due to our mutual love of blink 182) and he’s awesome! So happy you’ve found him now too

If London is the greatest City in the world Justin then I can cry whilst shaking my head in my hands whilst screaming 'whaaaaat?'
Been waiting for this! As you know 😆-- Glad to see it was well received by its original creator! Great stuff, JH.
He’s brilliant! Cool cover
Awesome to see you review Alex's version!
Love the new Darkness ... Cant wait for Dreams on Toast - hope all is well Justin!!!
Intro was class 😂
I couldn't care less how many hits you have had or going to have ,you're a f*cking legend 🎉
YESSS
God that theme song in the wrong key was unsettling
WHOA!! TWO OF MY FAVORITE CHANNELS HAVE CROSS POLLINATED!!!! ❤😅🎉😅🎉😮😮😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅
This has been entirely delectable, thank you.

Alex is great, followed him for years 🤘
loving your work as always
didn't even put in the 2 video panels tho ; )

Been waiting for this since I saw Alex's cover.
Alex is awesome.
Alex version of "fix you" is such a gem
Been watching Alex’s remixes over the past few years. I love that Justin took a look and appreciates/respects his cover of it. ❤
Alex is the man!
Very cool to see this reaction. I've heard of few things of Alex Melton's before and I like how he puts his own emo spin on songs. Somehow it always seems to work. 😅
Best crossover ever
Cool! Interesting to see different takes on your songs and your reactions.
Finally some good fking music!
There will only ever be one version!!!🍻
4:08 to start 🎉
I’ve been watching this guy for years! He’s super talented, so glad you’re covering!!
I was wondering if Justin would end up watching this when I saw Alex drop the video
I believe I'll stick to your version, Justin. This dude blew it with the soft 'whewww'.
Didn't do it for me either.
How dare he have fun with it.
That was fun!
Witnessing history bing made. Posting on an epic video. COLAB?!! Please do it for our species.
Jeez at least listen for more than 5 seconds without stopping
Whoa! was not missing this crossover.
The Darkness are a specialised subject on Mastermind tonight.
You Darling are a scream- funny as f*@k. Love your voice, Stunning man, pray continue...
The best part of the original is yelling GUI-TAR right before an kickass guitar solo.

I like both "the one and only" and "I believe in a thing called love" but not "chirpy chirpy cheep cheep"! 😂
